To think DH has more time to get shopping

My husband work 2pm till 10pm 8 hour shifts, once every 3 weeks. I work 7am till 2:30pm. We have 2 children one that is in full time school and 1 in afternoon nursery that starts at 12:30. I have no time to go home before the school run as nursery finishes at 3pm and i barly make it there on time

As he has the car I think he should do any shopping or get the electric, so why does he expect me to do it. This would involve me walking 2 tired children home which is 20 minutes to get the key and walk 20 minutes to the shop.

Yes we do live in the real world and I work full time but I still manage to keep a tenner on me or my bank card. I have pockets!

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:19

Electrical meters are sods. My mum still has one, it takes like a fiver off her every time she puts money on it. I've told her to ring the electric company but put it off she will...

VolvoMo · 29/05/2012 22:19

Iceland has a bonus card scheme!! I'm sorry but find that hysterical! Iceland!! Who would have known!

Take your money with you if you want to go to the local shop. This Mumsnet is a real resource isn't it! How funny.

FioFio · 29/05/2012 22:19

you aren't allowed tokeep personal belongings on you in MANY jobs
retail for example

FioFio · 29/05/2012 22:20

well vovlo you prove my point exactly, get out more people

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:20

I've worked in retail and I was allowed money in my pocket. And my card.

FeakAndWeeble · 29/05/2012 22:21

Oh fnarr fnarr VolvoMo! Hmm

OP, go for delivery if DP really won't pull his weight. It's so much easier.

juneybean · 29/05/2012 22:21

There are some right arses snobs on MN.

FioFio · 29/05/2012 22:22

where did you work?

I have worked in retail for years and you are not allowed money, most personal belonging and most definitely not phones

FioFio · 29/05/2012 22:22

maybe volvo thought I was talking about the country

FeakAndWeeble · 29/05/2012 22:23

juneybean, you get inadequate, unhappy people everywhere so I hear.

Wouldn't be so bad if they ever said something worth reading.

FioFio · 29/05/2012 22:23

I used to live in Se kent

juneybean · 29/05/2012 22:24
Grin
WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:25

Im not naming the companies on here :)

Anyway they should provide you with a safe place to store them then, they have to do this by law don't they? Could be wrong.

But regardless of that, there's ways and means to sort the OP's problem, it just takes a bit of effort on her and her partners part.

VolvoMo · 29/05/2012 22:25

Afraid not FioFio. Let's just say supermarkets have been rather topical on the posts I happen to have visited today.

It is an eye opener however. I had no idea that retail people had to follow such draconian rules with respect to personal items.

coppertop · 29/05/2012 22:26

I think that if he doesn't start work until 2pm then he should have plenty of time to do the shopping during those weeks. If he expects you to take both children shopping then it's surely fine for him to take the nursery-age child with him.

lagoonhaze · 29/05/2012 22:27

Do you have a freezer? Could you get one - freecycle? Bread and milk both freeze and would help keep you organised.

FioFio · 29/05/2012 22:28

surel it stands to reason that if you are going to be working with money it isn't a great idea to have your own money in your pocket?

I don't think that is draconian

I have missed all other threads

I am also not disputing the fact that the op partner can do shopping ither, I was just trying to suggest something that might be helpful

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:29

A bank card isn't money though.

And if you can't carry money, but haven't got a safe place to store things maybe you should open your mouths to your managers.

FioFio · 29/05/2012 22:31

no a bank card isn't money but i suppose you would have to have a safe pocket that it wouldn't fall out of
plus you would have to have a bank card
and a job

coppertop · 29/05/2012 22:32

Sharing - Why does your dh think that he shouldn't do the shopping?

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:34

Well you'd have to make sure you had a safe pocket then. Put it in your nix if you have to I would.

Christ people make the tiniest little inconveniences into massive problems.

FioFio · 29/05/2012 22:35

headbands with card olders on

I should have thought of this before

coppertop · 29/05/2012 22:37

Perhaps Sharing should adapt the ancient MN tip and tie the card to her head with a pair of tights?

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:37

You could tie them altogether and make them into a necklace :)
