To feel so angry about our neighbours constantly 'visiting' our garden and house!

Firstly I hate cats anyway. But our neighbour has 3 Siamese cats. They are horrible, aggressive, territorial cats who use our garden as a toilet, and come in to our house if a door is left open (which in this weather is quite a lot)!
They even climb in to the car when I'm unloading the shopping.
One night last summer when it was really hot I found one in my DD's bedroom. It was 4am. It scared the he'll out of me!
I HATE cats and feel like I can't have my doors or windows open because of them!
It's ridiculous. Can I do anything about it? So far I've bought all of the so-called anti-cat devices & plants etc Needless to say, none of them work!

I assume some posters are being funny not truthful as people who are cruel to defenceless animals are usually cruel to children.

They are the nasty bullies.

LadySybildeChocolate · 27/05/2012 14:19

I wouldn't throw stones at them, that's just horrid. I can't see what harm a little water would do though.

thebody

"I assume some posters are being funny not truthful as people who are cruel to defenceless animals are usually cruel to children."

"If I caught anyone throwing stones at my lovely cats I would knock your teeth down their fecking throat."

Pot and kettle springs to mind

Piffpaffpoff · 27/05/2012 15:41

the body it was me that said throwing stones. I was joking. I will therefore give you the benefit of the doubt and presume that you too are joking when you say I am likely to be a child abuser. FFS Angry

I notice you've not said that to the poster who announced she would happily run over a cat on her drive.

LadySybildeChocolate · 27/05/2012 15:52

I have my patio door open to let some air in, it doesn't mean my house is a sodding open house to all of the bastard cats in the neighbourhood! Yes, one's just got in! Angry

GreenEggsAndNichts · 27/05/2012 15:52

I can't believe people telling the OP to stop whining. It's lovely that you enjoy your pets, but that doesn't negate the fact that they aren't her pets and she'd rather not enjoy their shit all over her garden.

Yes, we can be happy for our family lives Confused but that doesn't mean we need to welcome all comers to crap where our children play.

AND yes I come from another country, where cats do not have free reign over their neighbourhoods. I have read all the MN arguments but I will never see why it's any different from allowing someone's dog to come crap in my garden.

GreenEggsAndNichts · 27/05/2012 15:54

AND AND AND... I like cats, quite a bit. :) But my garden has become a territorial warzone for all neighbourhood cats, so I sympathise with OP.

RandomMess · 27/05/2012 15:56

I tried to keep mine as housecats but one of them regularly used to leap from the 1st floor windows and used to hide if we went near the coat rack so she could streak out from "nowhere" when the door opened so we caved. I would not be at all sad or cross if they came back having been soaked by a neighbour etc, I would however be devasted if someone shot them as happened to one of MILS cats - air rifle in his leg.

LadySybildeChocolate · 27/05/2012 15:59

A little water on the bastards who are fighting outside your window at 1am is OK. Causing any animal pain isn't though. I hate cats, I wouldn't harm one though.

shinybaubles · 27/05/2012 16:30

Sonic repeller no more cats in our garden

mummymeister · 27/05/2012 16:52

thebody, i personally find that the problem people are those that love animals more than people. knock my teeth down my throat hmm theres a considered response. perhaps i should just let my children over your fence to dig up your plants, shat in your garden and your house. that would be Ok wouldnt it.

longbay · 27/05/2012 21:33

Thank you so much to everyone for your very helpful and funny posts. I will give you an update in a couple of weeks to let you know how I get on.

And don't worry, the body, I do not plan on throwing any stones, driving over any cats or popping them in a cage and taking them a 100 miles away.

I have 2 cats and a dog If I found out someone stole one of my cats and took it to another area I would report them to the police for theft and as for throwing stones I would report to the RSPCA. Do you dislike your neighbours so much you would want to cause them such unhappiness. Vets bills. Maybe the cat is their dc's and you have stolen their beloved pet?

As a cat owner I have a litter tray to try and stop my cats doing this. But if a neighbour was annoyed at them coming in the garden I would not be bothered by water etc being squirted at them. Plenty of dog owners leave crap everywhere too. They aren't saints either. I would take 10 of my cats rather than the dog across the back who barks constantly everytime I'm doing my gardening.

I really can't understand how anyone can hate anything. There are loads of thing I really don't like or am scared of but hating something is such a childish thing to say reminds me of my 4 yr old.

IAmNotACowbag · 30/05/2012 10:32

I hate cats. why are dog owners expected to scoop the poop from their dogs but cat owners can just open the door knowing that they will poop wherever it takes their fancy. you either have to take on some serious deterrent measures or accept that they are there. next time one came into my house i would put it in a cage and drive out to the middle of nowhere and let it go. if it was laying on my drive i would run it over. dog owners have to control their dogs but it is acceptable for cat owners to shrug shoulders and say well there you are they are free spirits. come in my house, mr cat and i will set your spirit well and truly free. i did say i hated cats!

Fucking hell. I'm not keen on other people's children. At least I'll know what to do if I meet yours as you won't mind.

thegreylady · 30/05/2012 10:45

I have two pedigree cats ( tonkinese) they really hate sudden loud noises. A fine water pistol spray wouldn't bother them but a big splash of water from a cup would. You can also get a recording of aggressive dog barking which you could put on loudly whenever they are near.

mummymeister · 30/05/2012 12:26

Iamnotacowbag - how can you equate dealing with someones cat coming in your house with killing children? refer back to my post on people who like animals more than people. If my children came into your house then i would expect you to deal with them appropriately i.e. call the police and have them removed. i am not cruel to animals - i have chickens, turkeys, selection of small furry animals. I take full responsibility for my animals and they stay on my land. what i get annoyed about is any pet owner who thinks that their pet has the right to destroy other peoples property, to leave poo everywhere and the people that they do it to have no right to stop it because they are someone elses pet. if you love your cat/dog/any other animal then keep it in your garden not mine.

Cockwomble · 30/05/2012 12:28

i am not cruel to animals Seems an odd thing to say after saying this:

"next time one came into my house i would put it in a cage and drive out to the middle of nowhere and let it go. if it was laying on my drive i would run it over"

elizaregina · 30/05/2012 12:31

we have a dog, and unfortunalty whilst she will bark at them in the day - its at night isnt it when cats become - awake..
