AIBU? Itv casting Lorraine Kelly as the modern woman's aspiration....

So sick of itv portraying inane, frumpy dumpy lorraine Kelly as the woman to get the nation out of bed. The woman has not one political opinion, not one iota of topical conversation, flat dowdy hair and an annoying dispensation for fawning over every guest and saying "brilliant" and "fantastic" ten times a minute.

Also the features in her show are so demeaning to women. Lorraines frigging cake club. The Idiot unshaven gay fashion editor trotting out "flattering" wide leg trousers and stupid platform shoes week after week. Give me kirsty young or nadia whatshername any day.

I think she looks fantastic but it a wee bit dull and lightweight in her interviewing style.

You sound overly wound-up about this. They've given her the gig on Daybreak, not Newsnight.

GoingToThePark · 21/05/2012 09:36

I think maternity leave is getting to me. I must turn off the tv.

Finding it ironic that you think her show is demeaning to women whilst at the same time assessing her as "frumpy" "dumpy" and having "flat dowdy hair".

knittynoodle · 21/05/2012 09:38

Ruth Langsford is my favourite. She's just a class act I think. Lorraine and Holly I could take or leave, frankly.

GoingToThePark · 21/05/2012 09:39

She doesn't look groomed to me. I expect presenters to look smart.

they're catering to their audience.
If they started introducing topical debate even fewer people would watch than they do now.

the majority of women watching tV at that time do want insipid shit.

GoingToThePark · 21/05/2012 09:41

Ruth langsford is a smug husband stealer. And I wouldn't be so smug married to eamonn Holmes. Holly I love. Excellent thinly veiled disproval when interviewing std spreaders and jaded reality Stars.

The show lost any pretence at being serious years ago. Fiona Phillips put paid to anything that could be viewed as a news programme, it is now little more than light entertainment with a bit of topical events put in to it. If you want more serious articles, watch BBC or Sky.

OutInAllWeathers · 21/05/2012 09:47

I like Lorraine personally and find it pretty sad that you are judging her on her appearance tbh

GoingToThePark · 21/05/2012 09:48

Yeah but BBc news finishes at nine and its antiques/property o clock for the rest of the day.

Am I really doomed to watching interviews with Martin cloones and making peanut butter Victoria sandwich cakes because I've had a baby and watch tv past nine am? Depressing.

You need to ask yourself why you are watching it?

I honestly cannotfathom why any person of reasonable intelligence would watch gmtv, ejremy kyle, this morning, matthew thingy, loose women....

And i am just as bemused at myself for having watched it in the past.

They keep making this shite cos people like you keep watching it. Turn the telly off fgs.

squeakytoy · 21/05/2012 09:49

There are dozens of other channels you could watch though. BBC News 24 for example!

GoingToThePark · 21/05/2012 09:50

Its insulting to the intelligence. I shall switch it off and watch documentaries on the iPad.

Just wait until you hit Cbeebies ...

Although actually Sid and Andy are a load more watchable than Lorraine Kelly

GoingToThePark · 21/05/2012 09:53

I am not a first time mum. Last time I sat and watched daytime tv (seven years ago) I'm sure it wasn't this bad.

I used to love Come Outside but it seems to have been replaced by a load of cartoon vegetables Hmm

I'm cancelling the cable tv when we move house.

The number of women feeling depressed goes up whenever LK is on.

fedupofnamechanging · 21/05/2012 09:56

I'm pissed off with telly too. Have just turned off Matthew Wright, because he's put Dianne Abbot on the panel.

Can't stand LK either -had the misfortune to watch her talking to the 'showbiz' bloke in Cannes, this morning. Does anyone really give a fuck about Z list 'celebrities' and the parties they attend - she talks about us 'looking forward' to the arrival of the A listers. Can't say the excitement is keeping me awake at night!

Have put the news on now - it might be depressing, but at least it isn't trite.

GoingToThePark · 21/05/2012 09:57

And is there any respite at lunch? No, it's loose women.

OP posts:
fluffiphlox · 21/05/2012 09:59

The thing is, you don't have to watch it...:)

fedupofnamechanging · 21/05/2012 09:59

That stopped being good when Kaye Adams and Nadia Sawalha left. I know KA isn't everyone's cup of tea, but at least she's not simpering and pathetic, like the current panel.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 21/05/2012 09:59

Be a real devil, turn the tv off and read a book!

fluffiphlox · 21/05/2012 10:00

Radio 4 is awfully good... And you can wilfer at the same time.

GoingToThePark · 21/05/2012 10:00

Or try-hard-shocking like Denise squelch.

fedupofnamechanging · 21/05/2012 10:00

I like background noise, hence the TV.
