To wonder how Hagrids mum and dad did the nasty?

Re-reading The Goblet of Fire to keep up with DD2's questions!

Hagrid - Half giant, half human.

Hagrids Dad - "Tiny little man" There is reference to a photo of an 8 foot Hagrid at age 11 towering over his very small father.

Hagrids Mum - Giantess of about 20 feet tall or so.

Assuming his dad was only "tiny" by giant standards, and he was actually 6 foot tall that still leaves a difference of 14 ish feet. And of course, we have to take into account the difference in size of genitalia, and the fact that giants are well known to be violent and aggresive.

So, tell me how it was done!

I've seen the result of a (male) Rottie mated with a Jack Russell - by 12 weeks old the puppy was almost as big as his mum! Apparently the owners didn't think it'd be physically possible for the two of them to mate so didn't think to separate them when the JR came into heat.

I too have wondered about Hagrid's parents. Not sure I want to think about it too deeply. Perhaps an ahem enlargement spell was used? Or perhaps giants have adaptive genitalia? Confused Who knows - it's just one of many plot holes of JKR least of all why they have the means to transport themselves vast distances in the blink of an eye yet don't have a wizard equivalent of mobile phones or emails!

bogeyface · 15/05/2012 02:45

I can answer the mobile phone/email one. I cant remember which book it was but I remember Hermione saying that they cant use technology like phones, computers, TVs etc because magic interferes with them and stops them working.

Thats the good thing about magic, you can invent any old crap you like and no one can tell you its wrong!

A consultant obstetrician told me there had been research involving shire horses anf shetland ponies. Apparently the mother's genes are more significant in governing growth before birth, and the father's after.

Doesn't really help with the original question, though.

beansmum · 15/05/2012 03:15

I'm pretty sure they didn't actually have sex and that J.K Rowling made the whole thing up. Otherwise, I'm going for male and female giants both having normal human sized genitalia, or magic.

sashh · 15/05/2012 03:27

In my grandmother's words "they are all the same size in bed".

Aribura · 15/05/2012 03:35

THIS THREAD is the kind of reason I love MN, ugh.

Anyways, I suspect they didn't really have recreational sex, he just quickly...you know. In there. It only takes one, you know! Grin

ErikNorseman · 15/05/2012 05:44

Giants have human size genitalia? No that can't work, it would look ridiculous, and how would they madturbate with their huge giant hands?

ASillyPhaseIAmGoingThrough · 15/05/2012 09:14

Maybe that is why Giants are so grumpy ErikNorseman they can't mastrubate with their giant hands!

EmmaCate · 15/05/2012 09:35

Actually - everyone that's said magic has it IMO. An engorgement charm... possibly combined with wingardium leviosa to get it up there - although it's giving me slight nightmares thinking about it.

lust love will find a way...

NorfolkNChance · 15/05/2012 10:00

Given the size of Grawp I'd say it's very likely that Hagrid's mum (why do I keep singing Stacey's Mom when I read that?) was a small giant rather than a huge one. Her giant son (Grawp) is a lot smaller than the others and it's likely he would be taller than her etc etc

ASillyPhaseIAmGoingThrough · 15/05/2012 10:03

I wonder how Hagrids Mum breast fed? Can you imagine breast feeding Hagrid if you were human sized?

Mrsjay · 15/05/2012 10:45

little man with hooge penis Grin

MrsChemist · 15/05/2012 10:51

There's probably a great deal of fanfic on this very subject Grin

bogey I know technology doesn't work due to the magical field or some such, but if they have the WWN (wizard wireless network) so essentially have a radio that works in a similar way to our radios, why not have a means of quick communication similar to a mobile phone, rather than owl post and occasionally animagus.

Also, why would it be the Wizard Wireless Network as wired communication is a muggle thing so they'd never have had it, so why the need to point out that it's now wireless?

They can use a patronus for a quick message, when the ministry of magic falls everyone at the Weasley wedding gets the message from Kingsley's patronus.

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 15/05/2012 15:54

At the time of the books, not many humans had mobiles either (Harry was supposed to be born in 1980)

Erik you made me laugh so hard DD got suspicious I was not actually googling giraffes...

bogeyface · 15/05/2012 15:58

Very good point TeWi, but I have to agree about the WWN point.

Poor JK, she did her best but there will always be people like us picking at the holes :o

Same as a dwarf and a tall human lol

bogeyface · 15/05/2012 17:39

But a dwarf and tall human will both have approximately similar sized genitals, i wouldnt like to think of the difference between a 6 footer and 20 footer! :o

Patronus! That's what I was thinking of...not animagus! [idiot emoticon]

I forgot about it being back in 1991. Even so, they didn't even have a form of regular telephone and not everyone can cast a patronus.

I've often told DD1 that, "It's just a book! Stop picking holes!" but I can't help but do it myself Blush

bogeyface · 15/05/2012 17:55

I dont see why they couldnt have telephones, Ron used the one in the village to call Harry, and Molly used it to call taxis.

The trouble is, that there are some pretty glaring continuity errors and you just can help focussing on them!

OP posts:
bogeyface · 15/05/2012 17:55

can't
