To be annoyed that old people park in mother & child spaces?

There are never enough mother & child parking spaces where I shop - be it supermarket or shopping centre - so I've started to notice who is actually parked in those spaces. Well, I've noticed it's mostly old people with no children. The other day I was so annoyed by this that I confronted an old man parked in a mother &. child space at Morrisons having a fag in his car while his wife did the shopping. He got very angry and basically said that he had more right than me to park near the entrance because his wife had arthritis. This is not the first time that I see older people without kids abuse the parking facilities for mothers with young children. In fact it happens all the time and supermarket staff just turn a blind eye!
I have a three month old baby and a large car so really struggle to park in regular size spaces and take the buggy out. But AIBU?

Loving the parsley garnish too. That makes dried penis look a lot more appetizing.

That's what evolution does when it's got around an arse like the back end of a ... cow.

Nanny0gg · 15/05/2012 21:10

I have two blue badges. Jammy bugger that I am. That means I can park up the Queens arse if I want.

I have baby seats in my car, but rarely the babies that go in them.
Would anyone notice if I parked in Parent & Child spaces?
We didn't have them in my day.

Do you remember Runaround? With Frank Butcher? Runaround NOW!!!!. Well. I think P&C spaces should be used as part of a fun game. It would go like this:
Let in 10 more parents and Childs than there are spaces. They all wait behind the line until the loaned noise goes off. They then have to run like Billy O to fervent P&C space. I think I best patent that shouldn't I?

Wow is this thread still going?

Who new parking spaces could be so...interesting.

Oh, I wish I could drive.
I'd double park in every P&C parking place all over the country.
My ds is 16 and when I was with my ex he always parked as far away from the door as possible, in spite of P&C places.
He was dead outdoorsy and didn't mind.
I however was not and would have loved the convenience of parking at the door.
Funnily enough we survived.
He was a bastard though.

OK, just found this - very disappointing I missed all eighteen pages being written. OP - you do know that one day you will be old, don't you? Also, blue badges don't come free with horlicks you know (milky drink v. popular a few years back, but you may not know that, being so young). There are a lot of people out there - both old and young who have disabilities who may not be able to get a blue badge. They need our consideration. Yes, you have three children and you want them to be safe, but you are healthy. A lot of people are not! Grow up a bit and think of others.

Lovemychocolate · 16/05/2012 00:22

Think that shops might be better putting mother and baby spaces further away from front of store so people who don't need extra space wouldn't park in them. Also then more disabled spaces could be placed at front of store as mums need a little extra space sometimes but are able to walk whereas people who have arthritis etc often have difficulty walking etc and may not need extra space to get in/out just extra at back to get wheelchair/mobility aids in.

WhAt really makes my blood boil is people parking in disabled spaces who don't have a badge and appear ok...they are depriving people who need one.

sharklet · 16/05/2012 00:33

Erm.. you do know if they have a disabled badge they can park ANYWHERE they like.

Grow up, seriously...

entropygirl · 16/05/2012 01:10

Wow! that went almost as badly as my first ever AIBU....oh actually it was my second...my first wasn't too bad....in fact I feel a recap coming on....

exoticfruits · 16/05/2012 06:47

Exactly Lovemychocolate- they need extra width- yur legs still work after children and you can walk.

HaleAndPacemaker · 16/05/2012 07:39

Still chuckling at the OP's: I NOT thick

olimpia, sorry that (perhaps because you are newish to MN) you didn't realise what a hornets' nest you were starting with this thread, even though it probably seemed like a totally innocuous thing to post about. It's a bit like an initiation ceremony for you.

Personally, I love this kind of thread. Jins, how can you possibly have avoided such things all this time?

I especially like the old geezer sitting in his car having a ciggie while his dear ole Dutch tottered round the vast aircraft hangar that passes for Tesco supermarket.

May I point out, in fairness to Scarlett, that she did say "maybe that's the answer make wider m and t spaces at the rear of the car park and change the current ones to pensioner spaces" (and I know other posters made similar points). Though I did titter a bit at her emailing supermarkets about OAPs cluttering up the parking spaces.

Can I just ask - as a way of stirring things up a bit more matter of interest - how 'old' were the 'old' people involved? Because I often find on MN that 'old' people are those aged 40 or so. So unless the 'old' people referred to in the OP were at least 105 years old, I reserve the right to be professionally offended on their behalf.
