To be annoyed that old people park in mother & child spaces?

There are never enough mother & child parking spaces where I shop - be it supermarket or shopping centre - so I've started to notice who is actually parked in those spaces. Well, I've noticed it's mostly old people with no children. The other day I was so annoyed by this that I confronted an old man parked in a mother &. child space at Morrisons having a fag in his car while his wife did the shopping. He got very angry and basically said that he had more right than me to park near the entrance because his wife had arthritis. This is not the first time that I see older people without kids abuse the parking facilities for mothers with young children. In fact it happens all the time and supermarket staff just turn a blind eye!
I have a three month old baby and a large car so really struggle to park in regular size spaces and take the buggy out. But AIBU?

No I didn't know that people could get so nasty on MN over what I believed to be quite an innocuous topic of conversation. Otherwise i wouldn't have posted!
I don't mind people disagreeing, what I mind is people making judgments and throwing insults. You've all decided that the woman did have arthritis, that the man was disabled too, that they tried to get a blue badge but failed, etc.
On the other hand I'm the ungrateful bitch who definitely has no reason to have a larger parking space.
Whatever! I can think of better things to do than replying on this thread!

Shelly - no, I'm still looking. I wonder if I could get a replacement on ebay?

Dawndonna · 15/05/2012 17:39

Oh good, OP, off you go.

Salmotrutta · 15/05/2012 17:39

Bye then OP.

Door/arse etc.

OrmIrian · 15/05/2012 17:39

How the hell do you lose a tank? In fact that would be the perfect answer to the supermarket parking conundrum. A fuck-off big tank would just make it's own parking space. Ha! Oh yes. I want one.

Where did you last see your tank, frank? Was it on Salisbury Plain?

TandB · 15/05/2012 17:40

"Whatever! I can think of better things to do than replying on this thread!"

Did you do the 'W' sign with your hands while typing that?

ShellyBoobs · 15/05/2012 17:43

I wonder if I could get a replacement on ebay?

The problem with that, kungfu, is that I don't think people are actually allowed to advertise their virginity for sale on Ebay. Grin

Last week I took my 86 year old mother, who has shrunk to 4'3" with osteoparosis and struggles to walk without a stick out shopping. We don't have a blue badge, she doesn't drive and relies on relations to take her where whe wants to go. We had to struggle across the car park from a distant place whie the M&C places were half empty - I'd like to have been brave enought to use one and feel I should have been.

landofsoapandglory · 15/05/2012 17:47

"what I mind is people making judgments and throwing insults"

But it's OK for you to call us losers and tell us to Fuck off!Hmm

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 15/05/2012 17:50

think I will start a new game, dress in my MN scarf with a Mn haircut and park in a 'Mother and child' space and count the comments and catsbum faces, whoever gets the most wins. failing that I will stay in the car and just drive round the aisles chucking stuff in a basket on the roof rack Smile

FrankWippery · 15/05/2012 17:53

That's thing Orm. I came on this thread to solve people's problems with P&C by explaining that I simply use my tank and mow anything in my way down. Then Salmo stole it under the guise of 'confiscation' and now I have no tank.

Princesslovelyboo · 15/05/2012 17:54

Am I too late for bingo? Has it all been done? Brew anyone?

Princesslovelyboo · 15/05/2012 17:57

Oh :( it seems I am too late, the op has already flounced out

Did any of you 'losers' tell her about P&C threads and the flamey flaming she was about to get (only just arrived, not had time to read all the insults comments)

RabidAnchovy · 15/05/2012 17:58

Yesterday when I went to get my copy of bum sex weekly and some greggs sausage rolls and some fruit shoots I could not park because there were goats in all the parking spaces Angry some of these goats did not even have any kids with them and I am sure none were arthritic.
I bet they were all bloody forrin and living on benefits, I am writing to the daily mail to complain

Princesslovelyboo · 15/05/2012 18:02

Shock Rabid you didn't get any pombears or string cheese? Vair unnacceptable!

RabidAnchovy · 15/05/2012 18:03

Well I did look for a nice ham!

Princesslovelyboo · 15/05/2012 18:25

Grin well thats ok then!

Salmotrutta · 15/05/2012 18:28

I might give you your tank back Frank if you play nice .... 'Kay?

TheUnMember · 15/05/2012 18:30

I went to the shop today and bought cow willies for my dogs. They love them. Afraid I let the side down though, I parked properly in a disabled bay.

Salmotrutta · 15/05/2012 18:32

Cow willies???
Wouldn't they be bull's willies??

TidyDancer · 15/05/2012 18:34

I enjoyed this thread. Grin

Shakirasma · 15/05/2012 18:35

Oh my God, I am stunned!

The absolute lack of tolerance and empathy shown by certain individuals, toward people far less fortunate than themselves is horrific.

Emailing stores and verbally attacking pensioners? I hope karma bites you both on the butt. Hard!

TheUnMember · 15/05/2012 18:40

Cow willies???
Wouldn't they be bull's willies??

Big hairy thing. Went moo at some point. That makes it a cow. :o

In this instance I don't think OP was being unreasonable. The old man was sitting in the space smoking, he could have dropped his wife to the door and parked somewhere else however if there were plenty of p&c spaces I don't see the harm. I personally hate seeing perfectly healthy, non parents/caregivers abuse these spaces but having said that I would never confront, karma will kick them in the ass anyway plus you don't know their circumstances. One psycho lady gave my husband a bollocking for parking in one at Asda when he was actually picking me and the baby up!!

He had a very satisfying time telling her to mind her own business!

Salmotrutta · 15/05/2012 18:52

Why does the smoking even matter?? I'm genuinely puzzled by this!

It was an old man. His wife had arthritis.
She probably needed extra room to get out of the car with the door wide open if she was stiff and not very agile

My folks and MIL need the doors to be wide open to get out by "heaving" themselves. They do not qualify for badges.

Why is this so difficult to understand?

Actually - the OP did not say they didn't have a blue badge (did she?). Maybe they did. Now we'll never know because she flounced.
