Hundreds and thousands are the the little dot like.

Sprinkles are the little lines

Sliver balls are the sliver balls.

YouGotTime · 09/08/2014 13:56

To me (in NZ)
100's and 100's are balls
Sprinkles are lines
Silver balls are cachous or dragees

None have any place on a trifle.

IScreamForIceCream · 09/08/2014 14:02

I am worried about marethyu. That was her (?) only post on MN, ever.
Unless she namechanged.

Was it a coded cry for help? Did she just REALLY WANT SPRINKLES?
I feel partly responsible as it is an ice cream related issue that has caused the trauma and ^ points to nickname.

ohfourfoxache · 09/08/2014 14:03

The only acceptable trifle decorations are glacé cherries. Or mini eggs at Easter.

Anything else is just wrong.

ohfourfoxache · 09/08/2014 14:03

at IScream

londonrach · 09/08/2014 14:05

Iscrew stop it I've just laughed out loud re your ice cream related trauma....

ThrowAChickenInTheAir · 09/08/2014 14:05

Almonds on a trifle? Ooh no... def prefer 100's&1000's (which are as said little balls).

Sprinkles are inferior IMO and don't behave (ie more prone to falling off and don't look as pretty). I don't remember Sprinkles being about much when I was a child so assume they must be imposters.

Those silver balls are like ball bearings. Don't like those either.

londonrach · 09/08/2014 14:06

Iscream it's Iscream not the other one. (Throws ipad autocorrect out of window...)

Grin

I feel like I have appointed myself Ambassador to Ice Cream. And I like it.

Offers round a platter of (frozen) Ferrero Rocher, avec cents et milles.
Oui, I am really spoiling you.

ophiotaurus · 09/08/2014 14:13

You still get ice magic in Asda and tesco. It's made by Askeys now and is called "Crackin'". Tesco have caramel choc flavour and Asda have chocolate!

(Can you tell what I've been having for pudding?!)

Exhibit a, picture of Waitrose 100s and 1000s.

Case closes I think.

funnyossity · 09/08/2014 14:20

Never had sprinkles when I was little, but our "hundreds and thousands" looked like todays sprinkles. Did the coloured balls come over from the States perhaps?

It's all reminiscent of
Marathons/Snickers
Crisps/Chips

Snowfedup · 09/08/2014 14:36

I honestly opened your thread thinking the next line would be ..... Have no place on the great British bake off !

As soon as I saw them on her buns I knew Claire was a goner.

londonrach · 09/08/2014 16:17

Exhibit b.....reopened case (also from waitrose reduced to 50p)

To think Hundred and Thousands and Sprinkles...
londonrach · 09/08/2014 16:22

Forgot to say has different sorts of sprinkles. In smaller words says 100 and 1000s....

Labtest7 · 09/08/2014 16:40

100s and 1000s were the little sticks when I was young

cruikshank · 09/08/2014 16:55

Me too, Labtest7. It's what it said on the packet! Dr Oetker can get to fuck with trying to sabotage our confectionery foodstuffs in this way. Today it's renaming 100s and 1000s, but what will it be tomorrow? They are fucking with a national tradition and may as well just piss on the Queen and have done with it.

PenelopeGarciasCrazyHair · 09/08/2014 17:12

Hundreds and thousands are definitely the small balls, crunchy and the colour bleeds all over the cream. The long ones are sugar strands or chocolate vermicelli. Silver balls are completely in edible and have no place on trifle or cakes.

I prefer almonds and cherries on a trifle, but if someone else made it I'd be happy with anything except silver balls and yes, it must have jelly in it, can't be doing with all that fruity, spongey nonsense.

Marmiteandjamislush · 09/08/2014 17:16

He is unreasonable to want anything that hard and chemical tasting sprinkled on a delicious trifle Grin

riverboat1 · 09/08/2014 17:27

Before reading this thread I would confidently have said that in my experience hundreds and thousands were multi-coloured sugar strands. And that sprinkles sounded like an American word, or a generic term for non multi-coloured hundreds and thousands.

Am confused now though. Were they balls and I am remembering wrong?

cruikshank · 09/08/2014 17:29

They were strands, dammit, and if I have to I'll take on the whole of Dr Oetker.

londonrach · 09/08/2014 17:30

Everyone look at my puncture there's long and balls. Both names maybe....

riverboat1 · 09/08/2014 17:35

londonrach it's confusing though because to my mind the one essential criteria of hundreds and thousands is that they're multicoloured. I would never call the chocolate strands in your picture hundreds and thousands. I think their strandiness is less important than their multi-colouredness. So if anything I am just more confused.

londonrach · 09/08/2014 17:37

There 4 different sorts. White and brown long strands, multicoloured dots/balls and multicoloured strands.... Very confusing as both names on pack...
