Or even worse- both together. Xfm dj just said something was "totes amazeballs". Speak the LANGUAGE FFS.

I think it sounds endearingly 1920's somehow! A bit Jazz Age.

"Oh dotey oh doh... it was totes amazeball darling! Come on! Let's Charleston!"

Firawla · 12/05/2012 23:16

yanbu i hate amazeballs - it sounds disgusting!!!
dont mind totes or well jel so much although i wouldn't say it myself
also hate reem

bogeyface · 13/05/2012 02:38

reem?

EllenParsons · 13/05/2012 03:03

One of my cousins who is 17 uses all these newfangled phrases like totes, well jel, hilar etc on FB. I was a bit Hmm at first but I have got used to hearing them around now and they don't bother me that much...

Some that I do hate though are epic, epicfail, pwned, nom nom nom, holibobs (good to see so many of you already hating that one) and I'm sure there are many more that I can't think of now.

I also find it cringeworthy when people try to write in "lolspeak" like the lol cats from i can has cheeezeburger or whatever it is called. I have a friend who does this and also called the internet "the interweb" or "the internets" and it really annoys me!

And I hate the phrase "stabby" or "makes my teeth itch" which people usually use on these threads when they are saying what words they hate! Shock

bogeyface · 13/05/2012 03:42

My dad always says "Its sweet enough to make your teeth itch" and thats from years ago, so it doesnt bother me. But stabby does, and nom nom.

I dont like the "peace, out" either, unless Yoda is saying it (see "The Padawan Menace, v funny!)

SodoffBaldrick · 13/05/2012 04:07

YANBU. My friends and I use totes behind closed doors, out of the hearing of other people.

We are late 30s middle-class mothers and couldn't carry off 'totes' et al, if our lives depended on it, which is part of what makes it so snigger-worthy.

Nom makes me want to vom.

AutumnSummers · 13/05/2012 10:26

YAB totes U! Chillax! You're just well jel because you don't get the new amazeballs phrases.

weemumbelina · 13/05/2012 14:02

SodoffBaldrick, DH and I do that too. Such fun!
Also 'decant' for ANY liquid from any receptacle to any other receptacle.

Salmotrutta · 13/05/2012 14:39

But decant is a proper word!

And it does just means to pour a liquid from one container or vessel into another without disturbing sediment.
It's used in science an evryfink! Grin

hackmum · 13/05/2012 16:00

My problem is that I start saying things like this ironically, and then after a while they become normal. Which is v v bad.

DesperateHousewife21 · 13/05/2012 17:12

I HATE when people say for e.g jealous much? Or tired much?
I remember hearing it in sex and the city movie when Samantha says 'wax much?' and I hated it then.
Now people actually say it in RL! Bleugh.

RollerCola · 13/05/2012 17:34

My dd (10) has started saying loads of stuff that really grates on my nerves. She does the 'kk' thing which irritates me, and EVERY time I call her to ask her something I get 'one minute' which winds me up BIG stylie.

She's started saying 'or-right baaaabe?' with her friends and I'm like 'where? where do you hear this'

The yoof of today. Tut

Hullygully · 13/05/2012 17:35

I love totes amazeballs

Hullygully · 13/05/2012 17:36

And I like Deffo, babes

bogeyface · 13/05/2012 17:39

"And I'm like....."

:o:o:o

bronze · 13/05/2012 17:42

Who complained about natch. It is as old as time, makes me think of LAwrie and Nicola Marlowe

hackmum · 13/05/2012 18:54

Another good reason for saying "amazeballs" is that it makes one's DD say "You are SO embarrassing, mum" or "OMG, you are so gay", which always amuses me.

madamehooch · 13/05/2012 19:04

You're all so totes kool (with a K....)

ProjectGainsborough · 13/05/2012 19:06

I rather like totes. Sometimes there just isn't the time to say the whole word.

'Amazeballs' makes my skin crawl and people who say 'simples' should be rounded up and forced to eat that marmoset or whatever it is.

HashtagJussayin · 13/05/2012 19:15

I change my username all the time. I wanted totesamazeballs but went with this instead. I have also been known to say 'lol' out loud...

HashtagJussayin · 13/05/2012 19:18

I also say sadface

Fedupnagging · 13/05/2012 19:34

I live and work with teenagers so def picked up some bad habits word wise some of which I luurve in an ironic and piss take kinda way -wel Jel being my fave du jour also luurve primarnie. Hate holibobs. As for lolspeak, wtaf?

GirlWithALlamaTattoo · 13/05/2012 19:40

"3 more sleeps... " Makes me feel queasy. I agree with all the above, too.

maddening · 13/05/2012 21:01

when we were all being made redundant everyone at work sent out lots of fb friend requests. One woman I friended during this time wrote "totes emoche" on her status - I genuinley thought it was latin or something reading it as

to -tes em - o -shey

hadn't a clue what it meant until people started replying - doh!

GhostOfAWasp · 13/05/2012 21:10
