That?s it really. I am sick to death of having to watch my feet to make sure I don?t accidentally tread in dog muck left to steam by some selfish, lazy dog owner. I resent not being able to take 2yo DS to the park directly opposite my house because it?s used as a dog exercise ground and you can?t play toddler football without the ball and toddler falling into said dog muck. I hate that every time we go to the slightly nicer park there?s at least one dog without a lead who decides to come and sniff DS and that while he backs away the owner stands there laughing that ?he?s only being friendly?. I loathe and detest the particularly ?friendly? dogs who lick DS while I drag him away, probably just after eating another dog?s poo or a dead rat or some other disgusting thing they just found. I have personally seen the scars left on a young child by a ?friendly? dog turning savage and ripping the toddler?s cheek off. The problem of people getting bored of their dogs and dumping them in rescue centres is sickening. The stories of dogs being bred to fight, being neglected, being bred for ?beauty? despite the ?beautiful? characteristics causing the animals pain and suffering are beyond belief.

IMO domestic dog owners as a general class have proved that they are irresponsible and selfish. Fear of treading in dog poo on a pavement or in a park is common to everyone and I am so, so sick of people blaming it on a tiny minority. Domestic dog owners can?t be trusted to be responsible so they shouldn?t have them, end of. People should only be allowed to keep dogs for working purposes ? guide dogs, sniffer dogs, police dogs, sheep dogs etc. - if they are licensed.

Ariel - what on earth is wrong with my phrase "possible aspergers"

I dont know if I fit the criteria for a diagnoses or not (but very possible, especially given family history).
I am often rubbish at spotting irony and am often very gullable and naive

But I dont have a dx so cant be certain

toboldlygo · 11/05/2012 23:43

Dog poo I wish I had taken a photo of: (incidentally the only two poos I have encountered on the pavement in all the time I've lived here, both clearly by same dog in same week)

Poo #1 - Giant, soft dark brown pile with an uncanny resemblance to a Christmas pudding. Week before christmas. Some comedian placed a sprig of holly in the centre of it.

Poo #2 - Same location, outside a small police station, directly atop one of the ground-set uplighters that lit the station's sign, therefore casting a giant poo shadow over 'West Mercia Police'.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 11/05/2012 23:47

Nothing is wrong with your phrase possible aspergers. I'm sorry - I got your username mixed up with MuddyDog's. I apologise.

IME all sorts of selfish twats leave their dog's crap lying around.

ThreadWatcher · 11/05/2012 23:53

Oh I see!

I still think all those of you who never see a lot of dog poo everywhere should visit me :)

Bupcakes - I shall await your photo diary with interest :)

tropicalfish · 11/05/2012 23:57

My neighbour has a dog that hurls itself against the fence every time I go in the garden. It barks, snarls and growls as soon as it hears me.
Imagine what that feels like, everytime you go into your own garden. Is there anyone here that wouldnt mind this?

I think that it is unfair of people to inflict their dogs on other people when they behave in an antisocial way. Unfortunately, some dog owners imagine their dog to be a cute and loveable baby when really its just an annoying mutt.

LadyBeagleEyes · 12/05/2012 00:11

My dog is a cute and lovable baby.Grin
He is an annoying mutt too, though.

bogeyface · 12/05/2012 00:11

tropicalfish makes an interesting point

some dog owners imagine their dog to be a cute and loveable baby when really its just an annoying mutt

Now, if the OP had posted "WIBU to want all annoying spoilt brats to be banned" then there would have been lots of "My SIL kids are horrible because..." "YANBU!!! Hate bratty kids and the indulgent parents....." because whilst we all know it would never happen (as with this OP) it is good to vent and make the point that spoilt nasty bratty kids are horrible to be around. But because it was about dogs, there is a knee jerk reaction that the OP must be a vile animal hater who skewers kittens for a hobby!

And for some reason, foreigners think that we love our dogs more than our kids, I wonder why that is.....Hmm

Kayano · 12/05/2012 00:15

There is someone in my mums estate who must carry chalk everywhere as they circle every single bit of dog shit and write

SCUM

And

DIRTY FUCKERS

All over the pavements lol

ThreadWatcher · 12/05/2012 00:17

Ooooh that is tempting kayano

Chalk (I wont bother with writing words) but Im tempted to draw round the offending piles of poo.

Kayano · 12/05/2012 00:19

The scum is the most effective. It's not a bad idea but it doesn't seem to be helping

bogeyface · 12/05/2012 00:25

The trouble is that some people would see that as a challenge and a laugh and would do it more :(

However, circling it and drawing attention to it is not only very civically minded, but also helps everyone else avoid stepping in it.

AThingInYourLife · 12/05/2012 07:25

PMSL @ toboldly :o

Dog shit as art - I like it!

Graham - if you're going to have "a thing", it might as well be dog welfare in Ireland :(

I think the collie puppy thing is interesting.

What kind of abject gobshite would you need to be not to know that collies (as gorgeous as they are) need loads of exercise and are very demanding (and often jealous) pets?

They were bred as working dogs, and they are big and energetic very clever.

Don't take on a dog like that unless you know what you are doing!

But people do. People who erroneously think they are responsible dog owners because they love their dog and pick up its shit if it's an easy one, there is a bin nearby, and they think someone might see.

They have badly trained dogs that they let off the lead despite the fact that they have terrible recall, and they think the cuteness makes that OK.

I have no problems with the dogs of truly responsible owners (who are far from the majority) being off the lead in the park, because those dogs are genuinely under control and will walk properly to heel. Good dog owners never let their dogs range way out of view in busy public spaces.

Properly responsible owners know which are the dogs that need muzzling and when, know which kind of dog suits their lifestyle, train their dogs well and if their dog has any behavioural issues, know how to ensure they are never a risk to other people.

Plenty of people with portly, under-exercsised, badly trained dogs think they are "responsible" dog owners. They are not.

Far, far fewer people than have dogs should have them. A dog is a major commitment, and people who can't look after dogs properly, including picking a suitable breed/type, giving enough exercise, training properly and always picking up shite, shouldn't be allowed to keep dogs.

That means don't get a goddamn border collie if you aren't going to bring it for a proper 2-3 mile walk every day, and unless you will spend the hours training it (and get the help you need to train it well) so it can be a happy, non-annoying addition to human society.

And don't get a dog and leave it alone in an empty house all day.

Most people's lives don't really allow for responsible dog ownership. Getting a dog just because you like them is not responsible.

MousyMouse · 12/05/2012 08:02

applauds athing

that's the essence of it. it is very difficult to keep a dog responsibly in a city with small gardens and busy lifestyles. not many people are able to do it. very unfair on the dogs as well for the affected people.

AThingInYourLife · 12/05/2012 08:04

PMSL - top story in local newspaper this morning - councillor wants to introduce DNA testing of dogshit to stop people leaving crap all over the streets.

Dog fouling is by far the biggest complaint raised by constituents.

So much for no problems in Northern Ireland with dogshit :o

I live in a very naice area, people here are too posh to scoop the poop.

Shagmundfreud · 12/05/2012 08:56

YABU

Because my dog contributes substantially to the happiness and wellbeing of my family, as much I am sure as treading in crap diminishes your happiness.

But I do think all dogs should be DNA fingerprinted so that samples of crap left on the pavement could be used as evidence of fouling and more irresponsible dog owners fined.

Shagmundfreud · 12/05/2012 08:59

OMG didn't see previous post. Am pleased to see that a council is thinking along the same lines and that DH was wrong to laugh about yet another one of my hair-brained schemes

NowThenWreck · 12/05/2012 09:32

Agree Bogeyface.

If I posted that my neighbour was allowing his children to shit all over the local park, and the street, think of the outcry!!
If people were regularly stepping in human faeces, because people kinda sorta thought it was ok to shit on the pavement, think of the mayhem!!?

And it is TOTALLY different situation from cats/cows/sheep/badgers etc in that dogs are in the total control of their owners!
Or should be.

ThatGhastlyWoman · 12/05/2012 09:43

Wouldn't DNA testing dog poo be very time consuming and expensive? Great if you could catch them out (owners), though. I reckon that they should have stiff penalties for leaving dog poo in public places, and if someone is a serial offender the dog should be removed. Though that's sad, as it isn't the dog's fault.

I'm a dog owner, by the way.

Whoopydofoxpoo · 12/05/2012 09:49

According to the Telegraph there are 8.3 million dogs in UK - good luck with the DNA testing !

here

crashdoll · 12/05/2012 09:59

I would like to know how you know the shit you stand in belongs to a canine?

AThingInYourLife · 12/05/2012 09:59

The idea (as I understand it) is that the DNA testing would be done on hairs extracted at the same time as the compulsory chipping we have here.

Picking up and testing the shit would be expensive.

I think it's an indication of how much this issue pisses people off that something like that has even been suggested.

AThingInYourLife · 12/05/2012 10:02

We just really need to figure out a way to make sure that antisocial dog owners like crashdoll who deny that the dogshit all over the pavements came out of dogs' arses, and think that it's absolutely fine for children to stand in shit, can't own dogs.

ShellyBoobs · 12/05/2012 10:04

OP, YANBU.

I fucking hate dogs for all the reasons you list.

crashdoll · 12/05/2012 10:05

Oh FFS! I said upthread, I fucking hate dog crap on the pavements because my dog sniffs it and also ends up standing in it. It's vile!

Oh and fuck off, I carry a load of bags to ensure I always pick up after my dog and I'm a perfectly responsible owner, he doesn't approach people or do anything to anyone except bring me happiness. He was the only reason I didn't kill myself a few years ago. So, fuck the fuck off. Thanks!

KatieScarlett2833 · 12/05/2012 10:06

My parents have 3 guide dogs between them which are exercised in a public park daily. They have built a dog run in their back garden to enclose the poo so i can go up at the weekend and clean it it can be removed without searching.

However, there must be times when they have the dogs out, nature does it's job and the dog poos in the park. There is no way they would be able to a) know the dog has pooed, b) see where it is to clear it up.

What to do then?
