out of the people i know, the working class ones have spotless homes.

the middleclass ones seem alot more messier and nowhere near as spick and span.
they also tend to dress their children in odd socks etc.

anyone else noticed this?

You are not allowed to say working class you know OP.

I thought the working classes were proud to be working class?

PaintedToenails · 09/05/2012 18:54

Well I am definitely not working class and my house is a shit tip.

Mind you, that could be because the butler is an incompetent drunkard and the Below Stairs staff are feckless buffoons!

CallMeAl · 09/05/2012 18:57

they is bred for cleaning, innit?

thebestisyettocome · 09/05/2012 18:58

Middle-class people also do weird things like dress their children in wellies, tutus and old woolly jumpers Confused Working-class people on the other hand take their children to farms and parks wearing frilly dresses.

catgirl1976 · 09/05/2012 19:06

What is wrong with wellies, tutus and old woolly jumpers? Confused

bewitchedandbewildered · 09/05/2012 19:07

I think you're wrong OP. The real posh people with a string of hot and cold running servants have the cleanests, nicest homes money can buy Wink

JeanBodel · 09/05/2012 19:08

I am definitely working class. My house is definitely a tip.

I suspect I am in a class lower than working class - white trash, maybe?

pickles35 · 09/05/2012 19:09

Doorstep scrubbing? Sweet Jesus.

thebestisyettocome · 09/05/2012 19:09

catgirl1976.
I can't get my head around why people dress their children like that.

catgirl1976 · 09/05/2012 19:11

woolly jumper and wellies = sensible

tutu = childs request

(am guessing)

pickles35 · 09/05/2012 19:11

We only go to the farm to steal chickens. We wear stripey jumpers and masks.

DizzyKipper · 09/05/2012 19:11

What happens when there are both WC and MC people living in the same house? Does only half of the house get tidied?

marriedinwhite · 09/05/2012 19:12

Working class homes are small and the women are brought up to clean - so it doesn't take long and there are experts doing it.

My home rather large house is spotless because I employ experts. Tidy. No. Not. Often. Sometimes on a Monday and a Thursday and totally if the cleaner, window cleaner and oven man come on the same day. Picks a little at the stuffing coming out of the arms of the leather Victorian button back armchair in the kitchen Grin.

My MIL was working class, became a teacher (deputy head), got a women's libby in the 60s and turned into a dirty cow.

marriedinwhite · 09/05/2012 19:13

Not sure about the dc's socks. They usually wear doc Martens probably without socks.

pickles35 · 09/05/2012 19:13

Working class homes are small. Sweet Jesus.

MadameChinLegs · 09/05/2012 19:14

I only know people....I don't know any MC, UC, WC people. I couldn't give a shit how much money they bring in, how many cars they own, whether their kids have matching fricking socks or their sink is shiney.

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 09/05/2012 19:14

I'm out every morning scrubbing me front step with a good pan of stew and there's always a welcoming bucket o' suds on the range fer any caller that appens by.

We're poor but clean! Yer can't say fairer than that lass.

FarSideOfFuckingBalloons · 09/05/2012 19:15

Ooh white trash-yes I'll be that one.

Quick question op my teenage DCs do a lot of chores in the house, therefore they must be middle class no?

Whereas I make my DH iron and my house is far from spotless, yet I am definitely working class
So how does that work??

thekidsrule · 09/05/2012 19:17

cant say either way, seen both untidy and tidy

always feel more relaxed in an untidy house,as im ocd about mine

but would rather spend my time with a bunch of wc peeps than mc peeps, tis true and another topic

FarSideOfFuckingBalloons · 09/05/2012 19:17

"Working class homes are small and the women are brought up to clean - so it doesn't take long and there are experts doing it."

For real???

Small house???
Bought up to clean???

I've heard it all now

thebestisyettocome · 09/05/2012 19:17

I think the wellies/jumpers/tutus combo is probably down to the parents thinking it makes their kids look wacky and cool. My mother would've sent us straight back up the stairs to put something more sensible on than let us go out looking 'a sight.'

restassured · 09/05/2012 19:17

I am frightfully posh. I once went on holiday and asked the neighbours to pop in and water the spider plant. They thought I'd been burgled and called the police. When I got back, I had to admit that the house was exactly as I'd left it.

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 09/05/2012 19:17

Thebest no they don't....wellies and tutus are SO 90s. I can't tell you what they do now as I haven't a clue and nor do I care (being an artist and therefore unclassifiable).

PropertyNightmare · 09/05/2012 19:18

YANBU. I have noticed this too. I just assumed Middle Classers are too busy with demanding jobs etc to find time to scrub a lot. Plus they might prefer middle class pursuits (e.g. reading ) to scrubbing if they have any spare time.

pickles35 · 09/05/2012 19:19

I'm lucky there are 23 of us and we have two lovely rooms. It's only a short step to the well and I get some help keeping that step clean. You can see your face in my step. Proud as punch I am.
