It's like it's been written by a 12 year old. Holy Smoke!! Is anyone actually enjoying it? Be honest.

I'm supposed 2 be reading it 4 'book club' that I've recently joined. I've heard lots of bad reviews. Where did all the hype come from?

rhibutterfly · 09/05/2012 13:36

I wasn't impressed to be honest

splashymcsplash · 09/05/2012 15:39

Is it really that bad? I've seen rave reviews.

StateofConfusion · 09/05/2012 15:42

I've brought it expecting it to be brilliant, I'm yet to get past chapter 1, as I'm not gripped. And I loved twilight.

axure · 09/05/2012 15:44

YANBU a bag of shite. Reminds me of the troll postings here where swinging or being a sex addict is written about in detail in the hope of getting titillating replies.

drinkyourmilk · 09/05/2012 15:46

Don't say its awful! I've just bought it. Oh- and I hated twighlight.

talkingnonsense · 09/05/2012 15:56

Wasn't it originally twilight fanfiction? But now the names have been changed.

UnChartered · 09/05/2012 15:57

bummer, opened this thread thinking it was another F&B convo Grin

Whoopydofoxpoo · 09/05/2012 16:00

It's OK - not going to win any literary prizes - its a bit of a mix between flick chick / mills and boon ( both on acid though).

Easy reading I suppose ...

We are reading it for our book club too - may bring out some feminist issues on the other hand we just might say 'nah - NEXT !

SinicalSanta · 09/05/2012 16:04

So not the sequel to 40 shades of green, then, featuring feisty red haired colleens and a hilariously repressive priest

Stellarforstar · 09/05/2012 16:16

I love it Blush but then i'll read anything.

fairlytiredallthetime · 09/05/2012 16:32

YANBU. I was a bit gutted when I came to the end and realised there were more books in the series and I would have to read those to find out what this guy's ishoos were. I then quickly decided life was far to short and I didn't actually care what happened!

squeakytoy · 09/05/2012 16:37

Never watched twilight (other than the first ten minutes of the film which I thought was utter shit), and never read any of the books, nor was I aware of there being any connection between this and the Grey books.

I was on book 3 by the time I read about the connection, and I actually dont think the books are that bad. You could ditch most of the sex, condense it down into one book, and have a better book I suppose, as it does waffle a bit in places and the sex is very repetetive at times.. I did find myself skipping over most of the shags as it got boring Grin.

Donncee · 09/05/2012 18:41

I expected it to be really good. It took me ages to get through it because I just couldn't get into it. I don't know where all the hype came from.

PipFEH · 09/05/2012 18:55

I read the blurb and put it back on the shelf. Not for me.

dubbada · 09/05/2012 19:16

ok shoot me loved it read all 3 books in less than 24hrs
not for everyone

Ruudiluca · 09/05/2012 19:29

It was actually written and posted on a twilight fan fiction forum before the author took it off and changed 'Bella and Edward's' name. Soooo that's how similar it is to the book Grin. A load of tosh imo!

MadameMessy · 09/05/2012 19:34

I expected to hate it but read it, loved it and ran to the 24hr tesco to buy the sequels :o
I hated twilight too btw, but really love fanfiction... Blush

SilverMachine · 09/05/2012 19:41

Oh no, I requested a copy through the book giveaway and received it this morning (thank you MN Smile I have been looking forward to starting it, I hope it's not too dreadful.

PiedWagtail · 09/05/2012 19:41

Well, I'm reading it on my kindle and am enjoying it - the characterisation is weak (Grey has been a dom for years but the day he meets the female lead he instantly has vanilla sex with her and sleeps with her - two firsts?? How liekly is that?), but the plot line is good - it's different, innit?! Grin, the sex is pretty well written, adn I want to know all his ishoos too! :)

Tulipsforever · 09/05/2012 19:43

UnChartered - you really made me laugh. Thanks.

Appallingly written yet oddly compelling (similar to Twilight; possibly even worse).
The second and third books are dross.

dementedma · 09/05/2012 22:17

I quite enjoyed it, but yes, it is a bit repetitive in terms of the sex, but I suppose there are only so many ways you can describe it really!

hermioneweasley · 09/05/2012 22:21

A review which said she uses the phrase "inner goodness" 65 times put me off

Whoopydofoxpoo · 10/05/2012 13:14

I have never seen/read Twilight - why the similarities ? are vampires into bondage ? Grin
