False eyelashes on the school run?

AIBU to think this is excessive? And when worn in conjunction with 4 inch heels, full fake tan, clothes suitable for a nightclub and hairpieces AIBU to think it's laughably over the top for the school run?

Said woman has told me she gets up at 5am every school day to get ready.

How patronising of you to call someone else a victim. I'm sure the woman in question wouldn't appreciate that.

I couldn't give a toss what women wear on the school run, so long as it doesn't belong on someone standing on street corners or on lap dancers. Going to school dressed as a tart is not a good image.

Apart from that, although I wouldn't be caught dead doing it, they can wear their pj's for all their heart desires, or dress up. I am just there for the sole purpose of dropping the boy off so I can then concentrate on getting back and enjoying my few hours of peace and relaxation. I barely even notice any other mothers to be frank. Far too busy thinking about my day ahead.

I also don't think this is bullying. The woman the OP was on about can't be the only woman to dress up in this way. And personally, if I had spent that many hours getting ready, I most certainly would not be returning home to hide in doors and come on MN.

Hullygully · 09/05/2012 10:53

bully bully bully beef

CurrySpice · 09/05/2012 10:56

Crikey youwhale! I really didn't like the op either but you've taken outrage to a whole new level!!

OhdearNigel · 09/05/2012 11:08

I am quite glad I don't know any of you if you think it's ok to behave this way!

Wow, if you think that commenting on an anonymous forum with no identifying details that someone is a bit overdressed for the school run is unacceptably horrid and bullying you must have led a very sheltered life.

Crying bullying on this thread makes light of actual bullying in the same way as frape does to rape

SusanneLinder · 09/05/2012 11:19

Oh for goodness sake-when does any woman have to dress to please OTHER mums on the school run?

If the woman wants to wear makeup, false eyelashes and fake tan, what is everyone's problem.

lolajane2009 · 09/05/2012 11:20

her choice imo, but i'd rather be in bed

tanfastic · 09/05/2012 11:26

Ooh I can't wait till my son starts school in September so I can have a gander at all these false eyelash and pyjama bottom wearing mums Wink

Snowboarder · 09/05/2012 11:29

I've not posted yet as can't be arsed to wade in. Suggest that MN deletes this thread though as if this isn't a bunfight, I'm not sure what qualifies.

SeaSnake · 09/05/2012 11:51

Please don't delete this thread, I love it Grin

There are quite a few mums at my school who fit the description - it seems unlikely that there is only one mum in the country who dresses liked this, will recognise herself on here and feel bullied.

Namechangeagogo · 09/05/2012 11:54

Do they delete threads just for being bunfights? Who'da thunk it?

She would be a super sleuth to identify herself on this post. She may in fact be Mrs Marple in a cunning disguise.

MarieFromStMoritz · 09/05/2012 12:09

I think it's nice to see people all dressed up and colourful. Rather that than hoards of Karen Matthews clones, with their tied back greasy hair and fleeces.

Sorry, not judging, just giving another viewpoint.

Namechangeagogo · 09/05/2012 12:09

Hmmm, there was a thead on here where someone was saying that a group of people were always sniggering about her and had posted stuff on Facebook that, though it didn't directly name her, was obviously about her. And everyone said it was bullying.

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 09/05/2012 12:10

Bullying??? snorts with hysterical laughter

Some of you need to chill out! I'm so glad that some of you got what I was saying in my OP. It does make me laugh how some leap to the defensive and read things into posts that just aren't there.

Everyone judges someone at some point, it's a fact! And I stand by my opinion that the woman I described is overdressed for a school run! I refuse to believe that those of you that are up in arms have never looked at someone and thought 'what the heck is she wearing?'. You might pretend not to be judgey so you fit in on Mumsnet but everyone has opinions on everything!

LOL @ pickles

PorkyandBess · 09/05/2012 12:10

Are judgey threads going to get deleted now if they betray the sisterhood?

What about ham arms and horned hoofs on the school run? Are they off limits now too?

MarieFromStMoritz · 09/05/2012 12:11

And I stand by my opinion that the woman I described is overdressed for a school run!

But you don't know what she was doing afterwards. Maybe she has a job where she is required to be glamourous, or maybe she is meeting her fancy man Smile

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 09/05/2012 12:11

YonWhaleFish, you can always be relied upon to take an obtuse view on a thread and to take things a little too literally. Thanks for the entertainment! Grin

OP posts:
CurrySpice · 09/05/2012 12:12

Only one person said it was bullying OP. Lots of people said it was a bit snide and not very nice

CurrySpice · 09/05/2012 12:13

Oooo! I want a fancy man

CallMeAl · 09/05/2012 12:13

No, we don't all have opinions on everything. And she's only oiverdressed to YOU. Women can and should wear whatever they choose for themselves, none of your business what she wears, what I wear, what anyone wears. Its so shallow.
Couldn't you try having opinions on something more interesting and less schoolgirl? The greek economy, the us elections, existentialism....?
