I don't know it just makes me feel sad. I like the discussion and the play seems like a waste... hmmph.

Oh Hang-on - decided to listen to this today, now I understand the current discussions. Honestly there are so many 'coincidental' discussions raised a few days before women's hour has it as an item.

Who is the researcher??

Do you mean the last quarter of an hour of Womens' Hour?

If so YANBU. It's bloody Womens' three quarter of an hour really, and some knob reading a story I don't want to hear, and have missed 3 eprisodes of.

Or are you talking about discussions which appear on here and are then rehashed on Womens Hour (and the Daily Mail)? If so I've noticed it too.

redexpat · 08/05/2012 12:02

YANBU. Play is always shite.

MrsCampbellBlack · 08/05/2012 12:03

Actually I think the current one is very interesting in exploring a difficult subject.

WorriedBetty · 08/05/2012 12:06

Yes the rehash but also the 'head's up' eg Women's hour have planned a discussion about say 'women who make chairs' and three day's before a poster will be on saying

'I am a woman who makes chairs and male carpenters seem to really hate it, is chair making really a man's job?'

And then magically women's hour seems sooooo current.

i actually find my heart sinking whenever any play comes on r4! the style and subject matter is always similar and always boring...i find myself wondering where all the thousands of listeners are who actually are interested in a dreary amerian woman reading about soviet russia.

Namechangeagogo · 08/05/2012 12:10

Love radio 4, but all plays unanimously shit.

MrsCampbellBlack · 08/05/2012 12:11

You're all mad Wink

I've listened recently to 2 good plays about the cover up of abuse in Ireland, a lovely one yesterday about John Le Mesurier and the current Woman's Hour on about acquaintance rape is very good.

seemedlikeagudideaatthetime · 08/05/2012 12:17

ok cambellblack, you are apparently the listener they are aiming this crap at! lol pleased to meet you at last! Grin

Montblanc · 08/05/2012 12:21

YANBU I hate the play!

MrsCampbellBlack · 08/05/2012 12:22

Its perfect ironing listening - now I am a very rare creature - I listen to the r4 plays and iron!

Montblanc · 08/05/2012 12:32

What is this ironing you speak of? Did you hear about it in a r4 play Grin

MerrilyWatkins · 08/05/2012 12:34

Download the podcasts, 95% of the time the play is missing 'for copyright reasons'.

BBQJuly · 08/05/2012 12:35

I don't listen to the WH play because you'd have to tune in every single day to keep up. Even without listening every day though, I've noticed some of the WH articles and interviews getting re-hashed in programmes a few days later, which does seem a bit of a cheat/timewaster.

BBQJuly · 08/05/2012 12:36

Copyright reasons or someone being too stingy to pay decent royalties

OrmIrian · 08/05/2012 12:41

I rarely get to listen to WH as I am usually at work but I love most radio plays and readings. I use IPlayer and listen to all of them while I'm ironing or cooking. I just love people telling me stories. Don't really care what the stories are TBH.

Some of the worthier ones can be a bit dull I admit. I don't always want my stories to be 'relevant'. Prefer a nice grisly murder or some sci-fi tbh.

Spidermama · 08/05/2012 12:44

If Radio 4 would just drop all its shitty drama - and I include The Archers - I would be far more likely to listen. As it is I have to put up with 5Live to avoid risible radio drama which always disappoints.

Shame cos there's some great stuff on R4 I miss simply because I won't risk being exposed to their drama.

MrsCampbellBlack · 08/05/2012 12:44

And the week long adaptation of A Prayer for Owen Meany was really superb.

PestoPenguin · 08/05/2012 12:47

YANBU It also depresses me that there's never anything decent on after lunch. I want interesting stimulating topical factual discussion and current afairs, not radio drama shite.

MrsCampbellBlack · 08/05/2012 12:48

There's always 'you and yours' Pesto Wink

MrsCampbellBlack · 08/05/2012 12:48

You lot will be saying you don't like The Archers next Shock

MaargeritaPracatan · 08/05/2012 12:48

Ditch the bleedin' play.

Bumdrop · 08/05/2012 12:52

TOTALLY agree
its woman 3/4 hour and some sodding stupid play, aka they all go for a tea break / loo break before the news
such a waste of time get rid !!!!!!!

play always seems to be racially orientated too,
african or asian woman hard done by, but tries hard ....
too forulaeic

whats4teamum · 08/05/2012 12:56

Agree the plays are dreary but I loathe the loud comedy on radio 4. I like to listen to the radio as I nod off and I am sick to death of the unfunny crap in the slot from 11-11:30, wich seems to involved lots of shouting and no jokes. But don't get me started on the drivel that is count Arthur strong.
