I don't know it just makes me feel sad. I like the discussion and the play seems like a waste... hmmph.

I don't listen to most of the plays. And turn it over as soon as the Archers starts.

Turn it to BBC 6 Music which I have to turn back from if people start talking too much on that.

MaargeritaPracatan · 08/05/2012 12:59

BBC 6 Music is my station of choice, especially Lammo.

I too have noticed that many WH topics crop up on MN a short time beforehand. Lazy research I think.

Love the News Quiz with Sandi Toksvig, not so keen on The Now Show - just less funny somehow.

betterwhenthesunshines · 08/05/2012 15:46

And Clare in the Community... groan.

But love News Quiz and The Food Programme is sometimes interesting.

I LOVED the recent one about the tea woman working in post-Nazi-invasion London who turned herself into a suicide bomber to stop them from interrogating a captured British nuclear scientist.

I thought it was really gripping and actually listened to all the episodes again.

JuliaScurr · 08/05/2012 16:01

Current WH serial is good.

startail · 08/05/2012 16:02

I just wonder how many women ever hear all 5 episodes?

Many women work part time, have DCs to collect from preschool, toddlers group etc etc.

I always turn it off because I know i'm not going to hear it all.

The same with the afternoon play something always happens to ensure I miss the last 5 minutes.

MMMarmite · 08/05/2012 16:10

Yeah what's the point of having it split into 5 15 minute slots? How many people religiously tune in every day at the same time? Would make more sense to have it in just one or two longer episodes.

MamaMary · 08/05/2012 16:48

Sometimes the plays are okay, but R4 Book of the Week is usually better.

I never manage to listen to all five (of any weekly series).

I prefer Jane Garvey to Jenni Murray. (Sorry, I know this isn't part of the debate, but I do). Grin

Mrskbpw · 08/05/2012 16:52

I love R4 and Woman's Hour but I hate the dramas/plays. BUT the other day while i was immersed in party-bag hell (cutting out 30 superhero masks for children to decorate) I listened to a really good play about obsessive love and stalkers. Which I then missed the end of because I had to do the school run. Did anyone happen to hear it? And know what happened in the end?!

hackmum · 08/05/2012 16:56

Yes, the Woman's Hour serial is hopeless for me because I only ever listen to radio in dribs and drabs, so I hear about 15 mins of the Today programme, 30 mins of PM, maybe the whole of Saturday Live on a good day, ditto The News Quiz or other comedy slot, 10 mins of the obituary programme on Fridays - you get the idea. So on the rare occasions I catch a bit of Woman's Hour, it always seems to have something really interesting that I'm just getting into and then I hear the dread words "And now, part 3 of our serial..."

Also can't abide Archers.
