Fairy's advertising is stuck in the 1950s!

According to the advert I've just seen, a mother's role is to stay home washing the dishes so that her male children can become Olympic athletes. Erm, why can't she be out on the track showing them how it's done?

Can anyone recommend a different brand of dishwashing liquid?!

Aldi's own is loads cheaper and I think Good Housekeeping recommended.

marriedinwhite · 07/05/2012 10:14

What was the slogan in the 60's. Hands that do dishes are as soft as something and the little girl was helping too and admiring her mother's hands. Irritates my Eczema so I don't use it.

LadySybilDeChocolate · 07/05/2012 10:16

You're very true. P&G seem to think that a mother's role is the cleaning and cooking for some reason (apart from Ariel).

lattelov3r · 07/05/2012 10:17

I do like my fairy cheaper stuff dosnt compare and tbh its probably mostly woman who do the washing up generally

CailinDana · 07/05/2012 10:18

God that ad is a crock of shit. It really is unbelievable.

Proudnscary · 07/05/2012 10:19

I'm with ya sister

SodoffBaldrick · 07/05/2012 10:20

Are all the future athletes really only male?!

AKissIsNotAContract · 07/05/2012 10:25

The ad is terrible, get a dishwasher

takingiteasy · 07/05/2012 10:40

All advertising for cleaning products make me feel stabby. Like as women we spend our time judging our friends on the state of their bathrooms and we're overly concerned with the state of the rim of our bog. And lets not forget the vax steam mop that lets us clean up after the kids, the dog and our toilet missing piss dripping husbands! What more could we want!!

SpagboLagain · 07/05/2012 10:59

The latest Philadelphia macaroni cheese one is deeply annoying. Something about needing to keep 3 fussy boys happy (one of which is her DH). Grrrrrr

MsWeatherwax · 07/05/2012 11:07

Has anyone else noticed how washing up bottles are female shaped? All curvy bodies...

IAmBooyhoo · 07/05/2012 11:13

i use star drops for dish washing.

hate the fairy ad.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 07/05/2012 11:16

Aldi's own brand is called Magnum and is remarkable good, pretty much the same as Fairy and only 59p or something!
I keep meaning to stock up :o

TheHouseofMirth · 07/05/2012 11:25

What annoys me more is that as a mum I am apparently sponsored by Proctor & Gamble. I want to know where my sponsorship money is.

NarkedPuffin · 07/05/2012 12:09

I'm so happy that someone else is annoyed by the Philadelphia ad. It's so patronising and infantalizes men.

GeneHuntsMistress · 07/05/2012 12:10

marriedinwhite it was "now hands that do dishes can feel soft as your face...with mild green fairy liquid" and the little girl was patsy kensit!

Ahem. As you were.

helloclitty · 07/05/2012 12:11

OMG that picture of the male athletes and a young girl with a fucking shopping trolley is so sexists. Do dad's not raise children too?

NarkedPuffin · 07/05/2012 12:12

And there's a mop one at the moment that boasts about it being able to clean up after anything, 'Even husbands' Angry

McHappyPants2012 · 07/05/2012 12:13

i buy cheapist washing up liquid in the shop, as it is normally just for the washing the meat roasting tray before it is put in the dishwasher.

NarkedPuffin · 07/05/2012 12:14

It's nice to know my role in life is to fret about getting vegetables into my family and tidy up after everyone.
