AIBU to think that its ok for people not to want to attend an Ann Summers Party?

I have a friend on facebook, I am not particularly close to her but she is usually a really nice person.

Yesterday she posted an event on facebook, inviting all of her female friends to an Ann Summers party that she is hosting in a few weeks time. Everybody except her closest friends has said that they cannot attend (a couple of people are yet to reply).

Cue half a dozen or so status updates complaining about this, beginning with 'So annoyed about people not wanting to come to my party!' and working up to the most recent one - 'Well I know who my mates are now, don't I? Bunch of arsesoles.'

I actually have FiLs birthday dinner that night, although I wouldn't have been keen to go even if I were free that night. I'm not a prude, I just hate those parties where they try to make you buy stuff!

Most people have just simply said they can't come, some have given reasons such as prior commitments and a couple have said that they are broke and don't want to go when they can't afford to buy.

I suspect that many don't have the spare cash and/or don't like parties where they feel pressured to buy.

Is she being unreasonable to be angry at her friends for not wanting to go to her Ann Summers party?

She sounds a nightmare tbh. No wonder no one can be arsed to go to her party.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 05/05/2012 20:36

YANBU your friend sounds like a petulant child.

rubyslippers · 05/05/2012 20:37

She's being unreasonable

I am not a fan of any party where you have to buy something TBH

AnnieArsehole · 05/05/2012 20:38

I think people should be forced to attend, like a law or something.

Dildos and cheap wine ? What is there to hate ?

Yabvvu

VodkaJelly · 05/05/2012 20:42

YANBU, you dont have to attend anything you dont want to.

Dildos and cheap wine, sounds fucking grim to me

ElectricSoftParade · 05/05/2012 20:42

YANBU. I had a horrid experience with an Ann Summers' rep.

catgirl1976 · 05/05/2012 20:44

I don't mind dildos but I draw the line at cheap wine.

notaniphoneownerjustabadtypist · 05/05/2012 20:47

YANBU. The same goes for any type of selling party. Never been to a AS party but they sound grim. It's better not to go atall than go and feel obliged to buy somethig,. And it's better to tell your friend upfront than try and wriggle out of it later.

cakeismysaviour · 05/05/2012 20:48

She sounds awful ESP! I hope she left you alone after that.

I promise, my friend is usually really nice and is very well-liked. That is why I strongly suspect that the reason people don't want to attend, is because its an Ann Summers party and its not a personal thing against her.

What about dildos and champagne? Classy do like.

catgirl1976 · 05/05/2012 20:49

Will there be pringles?

AnnieArsehole · 05/05/2012 20:50

Oh of course! (and cheesy nibbles)

IslaValargeone · 05/05/2012 20:51

I have only had one experience of an Ann Summers party about 20 years ago when I was young and naive.
The opening 'party game' was to see who could get a cock shaped dick into a lather the quickest, all this with a glass of Lambrini and pressure to buy crap knickers. I think not.

Ann Summers parties are so boring... why bother with them when you can walk into the store or order on line. It was great in the pre-internet days, or when the shop was more of a seedy sex shop, but now they are on every high street and nobody would bat an eyelid if you go into one.

Mrsjay · 05/05/2012 20:51

can see her not having friends with much longer i have been to 1 annesummers party and seeing as im allergic to latex whent he {doodahs} were being handed round i had to hide all i could hear was buzzinf and giggiling Hmm that was years ago , YANBU tbh they are a bit tacky

and the friend is making a bit of an idiot of herself on facebook , but sadly a lot of people post these sorts of I know who my real mates are when things dont go their way ,

FredFredGeorge · 05/05/2012 20:53

YANBU, and I can't understand why anyone would go tbh, if you want to buy some sex toys, invest the time and money in doing it properly at a proper store, and as for their fetish wear, about the only one Ann Summers offers anything to is those who like cheap nylon tat...

ElectricSoftParade · 05/05/2012 20:54

Well, at the party I attended there was a really nice nibbles selection. You know, cheesy nibbles, cock-shaped cake and chocolate cocks which you were supposed to suck. You could buy the chocolate cock moulds so you could make them at home. Grin

monkeymoma · 05/05/2012 20:55

people still have ann summers parties? how has this fad not died? I don't know ANYONE who enjoys them, they are dull as ditch water

your friend's satuses would get her culled by me

HateBeingCantDoUpMyJeans · 05/05/2012 20:55

Delete her

ErikNorseman · 05/05/2012 20:56

Jesus no YANBU! I've been to 3 when my friend was trying to make a go of it. First two were quite a laugh, mainly because it was a lot of my friends there and the rep was my bestie and a lot of fun. The third was hosted by a different rep after friend got injured. It was so awkward. Feigning cunnilingus on a complete stranger with a cadbury's Creme egg - ew. I'm not a prude but it is too much really.

AnnieArsehole · 05/05/2012 20:56

Got any links to 'proper' stuff then fredfred?

IslaValargeone · 05/05/2012 20:57

I should have said cock shaped soap in my earlier post Confused

Mrsjay · 05/05/2012 20:58
