To think Mary Beard is an attractive women who is certainly not too ugly for TV and Samantha Brick really needs to be aware that the rest of the world aren't as looks obsessed as she is!

Sorry Daily Mail and I really shouldn't have clicked on Samantha Brick's absolute shite of an article but I did.

Mary had dp and I spellbound last night, that program was an absolute credit to her.I think she's a very attractive lady,I'm very jealous of her "wild" hair, liked her clothes and think she most certainly does not need a make over.

Reassure me that Samantha Brick is wrong and I'm not the only one who thinks her obsession with looks is frankly quite disturbing.

Refuse to ever click on DM website again. I know it is not much of a protest, but it is all mine! So I haven't read that awful Brick woman's article.
However, would just like to add my name to all those who are a fan of Mary Beard. Top woman - articulate, amusing, intelligent, passionate about her subject and I'm not going to comment on her looks, because that really, really shouldn't be what this is about.

HandMadeTail · 03/05/2012 09:55

The reason SB goes on about looks so much is because it's all she's got.

ZZZenAgain · 03/05/2012 09:57

according to her website she is a writer, journalist and producer and lives in a picture book house in France

BupcakesandCunting · 03/05/2012 09:58

This has made me FUME! I love Mary Beard. How dare that little shit AA Gill be so vile about her?! He looks like Jaja Binks so he's on a very shaky perch. Hmm

I love the way her mouth talks when she moves and I love that she doesn't dye or cut her grey hair. She is fab and I want to be her when I grow up. I'd shit my own kidney out before wanting to emulate Thick as a Brick.

Grin I love that Turnip, fabulous!

I understand where you're coming from OP, but TBH I think many on this thread are missing the point by getting in the 'attractiveness of MB' debate at all by saying 'ooh yes she is actually attractive' etc... To me that is horribly patronising to a highly intelligent woman.

Surely the point is that it's fantastic that MB is on TV because she is an intelligent and interesting historian/broadcaster. Her looks do not and should not come into it, whether she's considered 'attractive' or not. It's patronising and falls right into the bollocks of the media judging women in that way - aren't we supposed to be above that?

SB is a horribly self centred and shallow media troll and IMO is best ignored. Why are we giving her ignorant opinions so much attention and consideration? She deserves none of it. My advice would be - stop reading the DM and ignore anything SB says Smile. Maybe that way she'll (eventually) crawl back under her rock. I bet the DM are rubbing their hands together at all the extra publicity.

HandMadeTail · 03/05/2012 10:10

Actually, btf, that was what I was trying to say.

ZZZenAgain · 03/05/2012 10:10

I like that song!

OrmIrian · 03/05/2012 10:10

Agree badtaste. It is an utter irrelevance (or it should be).

snappysnappy · 03/05/2012 10:18

Mary Beard is fabulous, intelligent, funny, charasmatic but not attractive. Samantha Brick is none of the above. I know who I would rather be.

I think if you have a brilliant mind you can get away with the whole bluestocking, dont bother with looks thing. However if you are of a more average mind, you cant, you just have to make more effort.

Thats why Mary gets away with it!

hattymattie · 03/05/2012 10:41

BTF - totally agree - SB is a non event!

I think the song says it all really.

fascicle · 03/05/2012 11:30

Loving that ode.

Mary Beard is fabulous, intelligent, funny, charasmatic but not attractive

Those qualities = attractive in my opinion.

snappysnappy · 03/05/2012 13:07

Well I think we are takling about physically attractive no?

ReindeerBollocks · 03/05/2012 13:21

Im not overly bothered by the apperance of Mary Beard if I'm honest.

If attractiveness meant anything surely Christine Bleakly would have had more viewers on that morning shite she was on.

But actually people want substance and Mary has it in abundance. She has wrote so many books and her whole career is based clearly on an area she is passionate about - like Brian Cox and science. He is not really attractive either but the passion they both have for their respective subjects is very appealing.

Plus Mary could wallop that other silly woman, her so called credentials and career into next year.

Pixieonthemoor · 03/05/2012 13:27

I agree LeQueen - she's ok looking but no supermodel. To hear her tell it, you would think she made Rosie Huntington-Whitely look like an old troll. I can count loads of women in my immediate acquaintance who are better looking than her. I am Confused at her self delusion and the fact that she is getting any attention in the media.

I didn't know who she was either, but then read on her website that she writes for Grazia and The Sun and produces reality TV shows.

That's why I'd never heard of her and why I don't value her opinion then...

Fecklessdizzy · 03/05/2012 14:56

Mary Beard TOTALLY rocks. She's intellengent, interesting and generally a credit to the species.

Whatserface Brick on the other hand is a utter waste of molicules, so who gives a monkey's what she thinks?

carernotasaint · 03/05/2012 23:52

Thought you all might be interested to know....Mary Beard is on Question Time next week.

Don't know who Samantha Brick is, but I just discovered Mary Beard and her Romans programmes due to the other thread about her and I luff her Grin.

Those programmes were just wonderful and MB was so articulate and funny and emotive about her subject - I adore watching things with presenters who really, properly know and love their subject, you can always tell and it makes a huge difference.

If history lessons at school had been like that I'd have been a historian instead of a biologist. Fascinating.
