To think Mary Beard is an attractive women who is certainly not too ugly for TV and Samantha Brick really needs to be aware that the rest of the world aren't as looks obsessed as she is!

Sorry Daily Mail and I really shouldn't have clicked on Samantha Brick's absolute shite of an article but I did.

Mary had dp and I spellbound last night, that program was an absolute credit to her.I think she's a very attractive lady,I'm very jealous of her "wild" hair, liked her clothes and think she most certainly does not need a make over.

Reassure me that Samantha Brick is wrong and I'm not the only one who thinks her obsession with looks is frankly quite disturbing.

I love Mary Beard. She's brilliant. Samantha Brick on the other hand, is a vacuous bottom feeder.

Atreegrowsinbrooklyn · 02/05/2012 15:15

SB negates her own argument. She makes the claim that male presenters have 'work' done to render them more visually appealing and that this is regarded by them as essential. She then compares Mary Beard's viewing figures with those of 'The Hairy Bikers- bakeathon' claiming that her viewing figures are low compared to this show and the reason for this is her 'lack' of grooming.

Can somebody illuminate me as to precisely what work, Dave and Si might have had so as to maximise their appeal seeing as SB deems this an essential requirement of all presenters?

BTW - I do not have a problem with how Dave and Si look. I merely wish to highlight the illogicality of SB's views.

hackmum · 02/05/2012 15:15

Any sympathy I felt for Samantha Brick after the pasting she got last time has completely disappeared. What a nasty piece of work. And more shit-stirring by the DM - I kind of wish Beard hadn't written that article for them last week because it's adding fuel to the flames.

AgentZigzag · 02/05/2012 15:15

I love Mary too, brilliant progs.

I've never heard of Samantha Brick

Krumbum · 02/05/2012 15:16

Samantha brick is a moron. Mary beard is naturally elegant woman unlike brick. But it is irrelevant! She is a brilliant historian and presenter and that is what matters, her knowledge and skill. Brick is a very poor journalist and a sexist, right wing pig.

MrsHeffley · 02/05/2012 15:19

I agree.Think the Hairy Bikers are fab too in their own hairy way but seriously if one had to compare Mary would win hands down. She's lovely looking.

Also I was too mesmerized to what she was saying and showing to actually care either way but the fact is she's an attractive lady.

Are we all supposed to be made over blonde clones now a la RHofOC to be pretty/attractive?Confused

She wants to make a name for herself by being a dick. Its working.

Bumblefeck · 02/05/2012 15:21

A A Gill has already had a go at Mary Beard because of the way she looks, and has been, I think, put back in his place by her

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2134146/Too-ugly-TV-No-Im-brainy-men-fear-clever-women.html

So not ony is Samantha Brick boring and wrong, she is also incapable of coming up with anything original :D

MrsHeffley · 02/05/2012 15:22

Also I actually do want to see more real women on TV,totally fed up with sterile over made up vacuous presenters.

OP posts:
squoosh · 02/05/2012 15:23

Please tell me Samanatha Brick isn't going to become a 'personality'!

Atreegrowsinbrooklyn · 02/05/2012 15:23

MrsHeffley

That's a great choice of word- Yes, I too was mesmerised by Mary Beard. And she looks glowing, fulfilled, healthy, intelligent in her photo.

I think I said in another thread that when I looked at the photo of SB, I could see insecurity and apprehension in her eyes. Not a happy bunny, that one.

oldraver · 02/05/2012 15:23

Q....Whats the difference between Samantha Brick and Mary Beard ?

A.... Mary Beard has something interesting to say

AgentZigzag · 02/05/2012 15:23

The childrens gravestones were really sad last night, but nice in the way they're not forgotten.

I was more impressed by Mary cycling round Rome given what maniacs the Italians can be like driving Shock

MrsHeffley · 02/05/2012 15:24

What the hell are we teaching our daughters? Can't believe society as a whole goes along with SB's views.

sairygamp · 02/05/2012 15:25

Only if she has radical brain surgery, surely...

MrsHeffley · 02/05/2012 15:27

I thought that agent, that cradle, apartment and the doll.I think Italy will need to give MB a big thank you, dp and I were saying we'd love to see all those buildings.I'm sure we're not alone.

Love Mary Beard, she's brilliant. Her enthusiasm is infectious.

Katiepoes · 02/05/2012 15:29

I think Mary Beard is fantatstic, her face looking at that doll last night was amazing, her joy in the subject so clear. I really love that show, she passes my 'people I'd like to go for a drink with' test.

That Brick woman on the other hand - I saw her on a chatshow in Ireland a few weeks back, what an appalling self-centered strange person she is.

Less of la Brick and more Romans with Mary please.

(AA Gill is a knob btw)

ScrambledSmegs · 02/05/2012 15:30

Mary Beard's series on Rome is great, I love her enthusiasm and ability to bring ancient Rome so vividly to life. She looks like a lot of professors I've known, original and offbeat, and I like her face. She comes across as warm and likeable, which is very attractive.

Is Samantha Brick the woman who told everyone that she's beautiful and the world laughed at her? How sad, that she's found her niche and it's being rude about talented, interesting people. I hope she fades away into obscurity again. Soon.

MarySA · 02/05/2012 15:31

Samantha thick as a Brick, wants to be a celeb. That's obvious. It'll be Big Brother next.

Dawndonna · 02/05/2012 15:32

It fucks me off that women are so unsupportive of women.
Mary Beard is wonderful, intelligent, witty and yes, she's attractive, (dh thinks so, too). She is the perfect role model for my daughters, one of whom wants to be a lit lecturer. I know who I'd rather be stuck at a dinner party with.
(Mary, I'm a good cook if you're reading this)!

Fishandjam · 02/05/2012 15:32

Quite depressed by the sheer length of the Brick piece in the Daily Wail - only managed to read about a quarter of it before I wanted to gouge out my own eyeballs by way of self-punishment for reading such delusional and drivelous tosh, but never mind the quality, feel the width...

I know who I'd rather look like come age 57. Mary looks like she's having fun, which is more than can be said for La Brick.

I went to the same school as Mary Beard, I found out! (Not at the same time, sadly.)

WhereAreTheCakes · 02/05/2012 15:32

Very impressed with Mary Beard - brings the subject alive and makes it so interesting. A woman who would be very interesting to know.

Recently there was a programme on BBC about royal castles (I think!) and I was so looking forward to it. It was presented by Fiona Bruce and from the titles it appeared that she had written the narrative as well. I was really disappointed - it lacked information and skimmed each subject. Why hadn't they got someone in who actually knew the subject well?

This is what we want - personable people who know their subject giving us programmes - not newsreaders who have read the leaflet on display.

Samantha Thick - why is the DM giving her space?

Clytaemnestra · 02/05/2012 15:33

Is Liz Jones ill? I think Samantha Brick has spied an opening at the mail.
