To think Mary Beard is an attractive women who is certainly not too ugly for TV and Samantha Brick really needs to be aware that the rest of the world aren't as looks obsessed as she is!

Sorry Daily Mail and I really shouldn't have clicked on Samantha Brick's absolute shite of an article but I did.

Mary had dp and I spellbound last night,that program was an absolute credit to her.I think she's a very attractive lady,I'm very jealous of her "wild" hair,liked her clothes and think she most certainly does not need a make over.

Reassure me that Samantha Brick is wrong and I'm not the only one who thinks her obsession with looks is frankly quite disturbing.

I'd quite like to see the effects of Samantha Brick on MN doing a webchat

This article demonstrates that it isn't that women don't like her because of her stunning good looks, it's because she is a nasty, vicious piece of work.

Mary Beard used to teach me in the mid 80 s and breast feed her daughter, who I used to babysit, in all sorts of public situations - quite unusual then. she is great. Actually she has smartened up since those days. She was very inspiring. Much more beautiful than aa gill who of course has a chip on his shoulder because he didn't go to university. if he had, he would not find her hard to cope with- he clearly has problems fitting her in to his narrow world view.

Why do we even need to deign to respond to SB's comments (not clicked on any links) by even commenting on whether or not MB is attractive. I don't care. I have never heard anyone in RL even mention the name SB. She is not interesting. I do love MB's red coat though and was wondering why I don't just let my hair go like hers.

I said my piece on the other thread - but do agree with those who said SB is a non-issue - we shouldn't even be giving her the time of day - she's pathetic. I certainly didn't think anything about how MB looked until Gill stuck his oar in and now I understand - he didn't go to college and so has a chip on his shoulder - even more pathetic. MB I love you, your enthusiam your subject, I like your eccentric Englishwoman sense of style and your refusal to conform to the norms and values of an increasingly superficial society. For what it's worth I hope I look as good as you in ten years. (Gone on a bit more than expected there as I thought I'd already had my rant).

It never crossed my mind about how MB looked either hatty, but to say nothing about SBs verbal diarrhea in exchange for payment may come across to some as a majority agreement.

I don't agree with her judgements of what makes a 'good' person, and I'm glad to have had my say somewhere.

I agree Zigzag - I think what I mean is that I'm surprised the whole looks thing is even up for debate. I thought growing up meant we progressed beyond that sort of thing - obviously not in SB's world.

Agree hatty, shows how some people are stuck functioning on levels you normally pass through at 13/14 years old, before realising it's all a crock of shite and the world's a much more interesting place.

Not sure what the point of that Brick woman is, but am very grateful that as a result of her ridiculous spoutings I have been introduced to Mary Beard. Just watched her program and she's brilliant, really makes it come alive.

I guess at the end of the day she's creating programs that inspire people and will continue to do so for years, whereas Brick is just producing drivel on tomorrow's chip paper.

Samantha Brick is wrong - YANBU, she is wrong on so many levels! I feel quite sorry for her though, I agree her obsession with looks is very disturbing - to the point where I think she might be a bit unwell - and the DM are using her horribly.

Meanwhile, MB is one of my style icons, along with June Tabor. Three cheers for naturally attractive older women! (not that that should matter at all when it comes to people being on the telly because of their talents, expertise and passion.) I'm loving the Romans programmes. I missed a big lump of the second one because my mum phoned so I have that to look forward to on catch up.

I still don't agree with her about Miss World though.

I agree Hidden, there should be more intelligent women on the tellybox. There are too many channels spouting vacuous shite, so hurrah for BBCs 2 & 4. And Russia Today and Aljazeera. That's about yer lot on Freeview.

I really enjoy the Mary Beard programme and had not given a thought about her looks. Apart from her reminding me of one of my old medieval history lecturers. Mary Beard has such an enthusiasm for her subject it is infectious. She was the best thing on that Jamie Oliver programme last year too.

MB is fab! She lives life and that comes across in spades.
SB has something very, VERY wrong with her. Not a well woman at all. Nasty nasty stuff going on with her.
