Feel somewhat nervous about it now Hmm.

Teenage girl living a few doors down always lets her dog out the front door after school. Dog then shits on grass verge adjoining the path and she makes no attempt whatsoever to pick it up. I have given her the evil eyes about it when I walk past and it is shitting but she just gives it back.

In the evening she takes the dog round the back and lets it shit in front of the garages (we have garages en bloc at the rear). There is literally piles of shit all over the place. I have seen someone from the council round the back a few times now picking it up so they must be aware of it but perhaps not who's doing it. They know now and I hope they catch the lazy cow. I can't believe she lets the dog do it so blatantly. The dog never seems to be walked, just let out to shit. I have never seen the girls parents.

We have only lived here a month but I am outraged about it and don't want the DCs to step in it but feel a bit worried now that they'll know it was me!

There are also people who seem to deliberately let their dogs shit all over the path leading to the DCs school as well as hard as it to believe. There is quite a large expanse of grass either side of the path but there is always loads of dogshit all over the middle of the path leading to the school. The path is the same colour as most of the dogshit as well just to make dodging it more fun. These people should be made to bloody well eat it IMHO.

YANBU, totally unacceptable.

GoingToThePark · 25/04/2012 16:54

Absolutely not unreasonable. It's disgusting and also an offence to allow your dog to run off leash in a public place.

My friend who owns two large dogs makes me laugh. She moans about people letting dogs shit everywhere outside her own house more like

Then, when she came to visit me with dogs, one shit outside my gate and she said "oh I'm not bothering with that, there's nettles there". Talk about nimby!

WorraLiberty · 25/04/2012 16:54

YANBU it's disgusting.

Hopefully if the dog shits at the same time every day, they'll be able to catch it happening (not literally catch it!)

But that's if they can be bothered to send a warden or CPO.

WorraLiberty · 25/04/2012 16:55

Is it really an offence to let your dog run off leash in a public place?

I didn't think it was?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/04/2012 16:57

Yadnbu!

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 25/04/2012 16:58

YANBU.

GoingToThePark · 25/04/2012 16:58

Well I have been shouted at for precisely that reason Blush

PandaWatch · 25/04/2012 16:59

YANBU. It's disgusting. And I say that as a dog owner.

Although it would be helpful if there were more bins to encourage people to dispose of dog poo. Round our way all public bins have been removed from the streets and the dog poo problem has definitely got worse since (not that that is an excuse - we always manage to carry ours home to our wheelie bin).

teanosugar · 25/04/2012 17:02

Is it really an offence to let your dog run off leash in a public place? - yes, it is, I think its something like the 1980 Highways act.

I would definately report someone if I saw them let their dog crap on the pavement and not pick it up.

wasabipeanut · 25/04/2012 17:02

YANBU. I just hope that something gets done about it. Dog shit littering paths is disgusting and penalties need to be imposed and enforced.

PandaWatch · 25/04/2012 17:03

The lead thing is generally a council by-law, rather than a national law. But I admit, without knowing whether or not it was a by-law in our district, I once shouted at someone that it was illegal because there dog was off the lead, but only because it ran over to my dog and went for him, which would have been nasty had it not been for my DH's quick reactions in pulling the other dog away Angry. The dog had no recall and was aggressive so I hoped it would encourage her to keep her dog under control in future!

PandaWatch · 25/04/2012 17:05

*their dog

blondiep14 · 25/04/2012 17:05

Totally disgusting. Hope they get caught and fined, and also the poor dog gets some exercise soon.
I own a dog and it makes my blood boil to see dog shit on paths.
YANBU

OrmIrian · 25/04/2012 17:06

Didn't know about the lead thing Sad Shit! I go running with my dog and I have to have him off the lead or he'd trip me up and we'd end up in a tangled heap. We usually run along the canal towpath so no traffic.

Sparklingbrook · 25/04/2012 17:06

YANBU.

tazzle · 25/04/2012 17:07

Is it the dog warden you have spoken to . if not then please do get in contact ..... they are VERY keen to catch people letting dogs poop in public places. I have two dogs and always carry poop bags.... have been known to offer them to anyone seen not doing what they should be Wink

GTTP I would be very interested to be pointed in the direction of where it says its against the law to be off leash in a public place . It might be that dogs have to be "in control" ( and many are even off leash) .... otherwise not only are thousands of dog owners committing an offence letting dogs run on woods and parks..... so is our local dog warden ( he walks his owndogs when under cover" ) and he is a flipping stickler Grin (he was off with me cos one of my dogs was "doing" while I was attending to the other and he thought I was ignoring it .... despite me walking that way getting another poop bag out my pocket Hmm)

supernannyisace · 25/04/2012 17:08

YANBU.

I hate seeing the dog shit everywhere - especially where children will tread in it. I am uber careful - even when I go out runnign I spend most of my time checking out where my next step will be.

I hope she gets caught. It is an offence -and she can be fined.

GoingToThePark · 25/04/2012 17:10

Well my dog is an absolutely decrepit and soft as shit a dreaded sbt so people always hate to see her innocently walking around a field nowhere near any houses or children (except my own kids). Hmm

VodkaJelly · 25/04/2012 17:15

It is disgusting and she should be clearing it up.

A few years ago when taking my dog out he did his 4th - yes 4th poo and it was quite sloppy, and guess what, I had only taken 3 poo bags with me. I was mortified and was going to go into the local takeaway to see if they would give me a bag to clean it up with but DP got all arsey and wouldnt let me so I reluctantly left it.

The next day when taking DC's to the shop they trod in it. Karma or what? I now never leave the house without 50 poo bags on my person!

willbeskinny · 25/04/2012 17:18

YANBU as long as you're sure it's def the right person.

There is a serial shit leaver in the alley behind my house. This has been going on for sometime, however, if I'm honest it never really bothered me as I dnt go out there. Plus I never knew you could report people for it.

Anyway, I digress, about a month ago, we got a note through the door from a neighbor stating that whilst they're aware there is a dog fouling problem it is not their dog and would appreciate it if people didn't complain about them to council.

Being the nosy cow concerned neighbor I am, I went rnd. Apparantly, someone was accusing their dog of shitting fouling and was subsequently (sic?) Thowing poo over their garden wall.

I knew it wasn't them as I'd (and DP) seen another neighbor regularly letting their dog foul in the alley. Not within the last month or so, but before that a lot of times. Anyway, after hearing that you could report it I told the neighbor I would call council and dob in report the correct person.

The dog warden went round a few days later. The dog I'd not seen for a month or so, died in December, so the recent fouling could not have been him.

The moral of this story? By all means report it, but make sure you have the correct person as you risk sending the dog warden round to someone who's dog has died......[Blush]

thebody · 25/04/2012 17:20

Good on ya, serve her right

PandaWatch · 25/04/2012 17:20

Just to clarify on the lead point, it's only on public highways (i.e. pavements) that it would apply and even where there are laws in place they are, apparanetly, rarely enforced. So you should be fine Orm! Smile

YouOldSlag · 25/04/2012 17:20

YANBU.

People who don't pick up after their should have their noses rubbed in it. it really does ruin a nice walk or a school route or a green field. It makes the red mist come down, it really does.

I think everyone should make every effort to shame offenders whenever you see them so that it's uncool, unacceptable and makes you a pariah if you do it.

thatisall · 25/04/2012 17:20

YANBU ewww

YouOldSlag · 25/04/2012 17:21

And apologies to all responsible dog owners who are given a bad name by these inconsiderate entitled bastards.
