to have reported neighbour for letting their dog shit everywhere?

Feel somewhat nervous about it now Hmm.

Teenage girl living a few doors down always lets her dog out the front door after school. Dog then shits on grass verge adjoining the path and she makes no attempt whatsoever to pick it up. I have given her the evil eyes about it when I walk past and it is shitting but she just gives it back.

In the evening she takes the dog round the back and lets it shit in front of the garages (we have garages en bloc at the rear). There is literally piles of shit all over the place. I have seen someone from the council round the back a few times now picking it up so they must be aware of it but perhaps not who's doing it. They know now and I hope they catch the lazy cow. I can't believe she lets the dog do it so blatantly. The dog never seems to be walked, just let out to shit. I have never seen the girls parents.

We have only lived here a month but I am outraged about it and don't want the DCs to step in it but feel a bit worried now that they'll know it was me!

There are also people who seem to deliberately let their dogs shit all over the path leading to the DCs school as well as hard as it to believe. There is quite a large expanse of grass either side of the path but there is always loads of dogshit all over the middle of the path leading to the school. The path is the same colour as most of the dogshit as well just to make dodging it more fun. These people should be made to bloody well eat it IMHO.

YANBU, and good luck in getting it sorted.

A few years ago there was a horrible witchy old woman down the street where we used to live who would let her dog out of the front door and stand waiting until it'd shat somewhere down the road before letting it back in.

However when I rang the dog shit hot line or whatever, they then rang her up and said 'do you let your dog shit in the road' (or similar) and she said 'no I don't', and nothing else happened! I hope times have changed for you, OP!

Sparklingbrook · 25/04/2012 17:37

Just a thought. I found it yesterday on another dog poo thread.

PandaWatch · 25/04/2012 17:51

Yeah...cruelty to animals is really funny Hmm

Surely replacing the dog on the spit with the non-picking up owner would be more appropriate?

Sparklingbrook · 25/04/2012 17:54

Yes, because someone would really put a dog on a spit wouldn't they? Hmm

PandaWatch · 25/04/2012 18:03

Considering what else people do, it's not exactly far fetched.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 25/04/2012 18:11

I shake your hand op I'm sick of cleaning shit off shoes. A responsible dog owner picks it up my five yr old knows that much. Many thanks for doing it!!! ;)

Bitofastate · 25/04/2012 20:10

YABU - You need to think about the dog's rights in this situation. Consider it a free agent of nature, free to roam and poo where it needs to as the moon's cycle decrees. Dogs are WILD creatures you know.

Trying to stop the dog or disturb it by removing the natural waste product afterwards would surely be wrong and cruel?

Just make sure you don't walk on the grass, really that's not much to expect of you is it? Take some responsibility.

axure · 25/04/2012 20:29

YANBU next time you see her leaving it don't just give her a dirty look, ask if she would kindly clean up after her dog to make life nicer for everyone in the area, especially children who may step in it. Have some nappy sacks in your pocket to offer her, if she refuses then explain that you have no option other than to inform the council. I own 2 dogs and would never dream of leaving their mess on the ground, unfortunately there are lots of filthy beggars who don't give a toss.

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 26/04/2012 00:07

I had a neighbour who did this. I nearly reported it but never had the nerve, although I did notice an increasing number of signs going up so someone else may have! They have now moved thank Christ and the street is now shit-free! Grin

D0oinMeCleanin · 26/04/2012 00:16

I'm with Bitofastate. T'is a dog's right. Where are they meant to go? Where have you ever seen a dog portaloo on the streets?

Isn't it bad enough that they have to go through the humilation of emptying their bowels in public? You can't cause them further humilation by forcing them to watch someone clean up their deposits.

northcountrygirl · 26/04/2012 00:50

I'm a dog owner and I have only ever not picked up after my dog on one occasion.

It was quite a "soft" poo and I had run out of poo bags as he had already done 1 and I stupidly only brought the one bag. I was too far away from home to go back and get another bag and still be on time for the school run so I do admit to just leaving it there (it was in a wooded area where not many people walk).

You will all probably be quite pleased to hear that on the way back home I completely forgot about it and stood in it myself, in all its squelchy glory. And I was wearing birkenstocks.

Figured it was karma...

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 26/04/2012 07:10

How can anyone defend an owner not picking up its animal's toxic shit? Appalling.

LookAtAllTheseFucksIGive · 26/04/2012 07:10

Ugh. Some mornings when I return from the school run I have to attack the pushchair wheels with a kettle of boiling water, bleach and kitchen roll. When we first moved round here I saw my neighbours dog take a big dump on the pavement near the park. He cleaned it up and sprayed soapy water on the patch from a bottle in his pocket. Now that is considerate. A little girl caught an eye disease (I can't remember the name) from poo on a slide in our local park. It was on the local news. We haven't been back since. If you are caught letting your dog foul in public places (difficult I know) and you make no attempt to clean it up the I believe you should be fined the maximum penalty allowed and made to clean up all the rogue turds in the vicinity. Why not? There is no guarantee they don't belong to your dog. :o

pigletmania · 26/04/2012 07:54

YANBU at all. I just hate those diry bastards who do not clear up after their dogs, they should not own them at all. My dd 5 (sn) went to the childrens play park, my back was turned for a moment and she attempted to pick up this horrible pile of dog poo and put it on her face. It was smack in the middle of the play park, the dirty buggars could not be bothered to pick it up

Birdsgottafly · 26/04/2012 08:31

Dogs are not wild creatures, though, they are owned by someone, or put down.

I say that as lifelong GS owner. My dog is well looked after, cleaned up after, vacinated etc.

I posted on another thread about my friends dog that was killed by an out of control dog and mine has been attacked twice. I hate having to dodge dog poo and keep my dog away from it because the same owners probably arn't worming/vacinating their dogs, either.

As a dog owner i am sick of bad dog ownership, it blights the neighbourhood that i live in, as do other things, but this thread is about bad dog ownership.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/04/2012 08:41

Bitofastate- "dogs are wild creatures you know"

Oh, right, where do you live?
I haven't seen any wild dogs round where I live. The odd Latch Key Dog perhaps.

Well here's a thought:

These "wild" dogs that probably aren't wormed (I know alot of people don't bother to worm their dogs)
Are their Parasitical Worms free to set up home in a childs bloodstream? In a childs eyes? To turn the child blind?

Would you be so flippant- because I'm, hoping it is a joke /ironic post- if it was your child who caught it ( Toxicara I think, not 100% sure) and lost their sight?

OrmIrian · 26/04/2012 09:52

I asked Harley what he thought about me picking up his shit. Did he find it humiliating? said 'whatever floats your boat, I think it's a bit disgusting myself but knock yourself out' Grin

Birdsgottafly · 26/04/2012 09:55

I know alot of people don't bother to worm their dogs

All good dog owners worm their dogs, because having worms makes the dog ill.

If you care about your pet, whatever you keep, you look after it's needs. Whereas there is no proff that a human has been injured by non wormed dog poo (as other animals that are wild carry Toxocara), it will infect other dogs, that, as a dog owner, bothers me.

This isn't an arguement between dog owners and none dog owners, everyone should be against bad dog ownership, as they against say, bad driving.

ln1981 · 26/04/2012 11:06

YANBU. It gives responsible dog owners a bad name. Its become really bad round here. And always right outside someones gate, so you can't avoid it. I was out walking yesterday and someone had printed of a long rant addressed to a serial shit leaver-I was impressed!if only more of us had the balls.

comedycentral · 26/04/2012 11:14

Disgusting and selfish! YANBU for reporting her at all.

pinktrees · 26/04/2012 11:15

YANBU. I would report to RSPCA as well as council if the dog isn't walked.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 26/04/2012 11:19

My hound just looks as me disgustedly, as if to say 'You're actually picking up poo? Really? You humans are beyond the pale.'

I saw another owner about to walk away today from a fresh steaming pile and I did my best, ingratiating voice when I dashed over with a Waitrose bag and asked if he needed it. I did enjoy the passive/aggressive nature of our exchange. He picked up.

I agree that it's horrible and I don't think you were U OP. Can you help me now with the neighbour's cats who poo in my vegetable beds so my children end up with it on their hands and shoes when they are helping me in the garden? Grin

MissBetsyTrotwood · 26/04/2012 11:20

You could do those little signs on cocktail sticks next with Jeremy Clarkson's face on them.

pictish · 26/04/2012 11:23

YA soooooo NBU! God it's foul, disgusting, selfish and lazy as fuck!
I am so sick of dodging dog shit everywhere we go, and there is nothing more infuriating than cleaning it off your child's shoe...except for not realising until they've tramped it onto your hall carpet.

I think offenders should be made to have it smeared on their carpets and see how they fucking like it. Lets get a good fresh dump and run the buggy through it and then go for a walk through their hallway. There you go - have some shit on YOUR belongings.

Filthy gits.

Hope your neighbour gets a right bollocking, and a fine.

Bitofastate · 26/04/2012 11:32

Orm - I think its just Princess Fluffy Woo-Woo that gets upset by the whole thing then Grin She's on my profile - you can see from her picture she's a little delicate

And the reason for my first post was simply that this is the kind of AIBU no one ever disagrees with, why would they? Its like saying 'AIBU to rob old ladies?' etc. So I thought that just for once I'd get a YABU in there Grin
