Bought a car from Citroen dealership 6 weeks ago. Nice car, low mileage, tax & mot and 3 months warranty. Car is 4.5 years old.

Lovely.

Except it's fucking broke 6 weeks later Angry

And the warranty only covers the first £100. Which I wasn't informed of when I bought the fucking thing Angry

I am enraged Angry

I agree. Baught ours new two years ago and within the first year it had no less than 3 electrical repairs. I have also had the bulbs in the headlights change several times, we had a ford before the citroen which we kept for three years and had no problems what so ever no bulb changes nothing. Will not be buying Citroen again.

plumviolet · 24/04/2012 17:30

My sister had a similar problem with citroen and has swore never to buy one again. Their compaints and warranty service is APPALLING and the electrics have some serious flaws. the cars should be avoided at all cost.

peanutbutter38 · 24/04/2012 17:31

never buy french, they make crap cars

ENormaSnob · 24/04/2012 17:44

They have just said that the warranty is not really a warranty more of a guarantee Hmm

Fucking lying pricks.

They didn't say that when I was buying it.

I am now left to find £££ Angry

I hope they all get fucking scabies and crabs.

My used Citroen came with a 2 year free warranty. I had an electrical problem within a few months and I was fully covered for that. If its got a 3 month warranty why won't they cover the fault if its happened within 6 weeks? What has happened to it?

Ugh123 · 24/04/2012 17:51

YANBU. Citroens are crap.

Sarcalogos · 24/04/2012 17:52

I bought a new Citroen 5+ years ago. All I've had is 1 headlight out. No problems at all. Happy Citroen Customer here.

ENormaSnob · 24/04/2012 17:56

They are now saying the 3 month warranty that they give as standard isn't really a warranty.

Basically they have lied when I was buying it.

It is the main fuse box in the engine.

I am so stressed and angry.

Call trading standards and get their advice.

When I bought a brand new Citroen, I had to get it serviced by them because of my warranty. When I eventually took it to an independent garage for a service, they said it looked like it had never been serviced at all!

Would not buy another citroen - I just don't feel able to trust them.

BellaVita · 24/04/2012 18:21

Oooh there was a programme about this....

Girl boughht brand new citreon car, after a week it developed a fault on the on board computer. She went back and forth with it, documented everything, phone calls etc. The kept fobbing her off every time.

In the end (went on for 5 months) she involved Dom Littlewood and she got all of her money back.

madmouse · 24/04/2012 18:21

My DF is a mechanic. He told me no French cars, ever

marriedinwhite · 24/04/2012 18:25

12 years of happy, trouble free Citroen motoring here. Fab value for money and very helpful sales staff. However, all my servicing is done by my own mechanic. The warranty is completely intact providing only Citroen parts are used and invoices prove it but I have never ever had to use the warranty on my Citroens.

ENormaSnob · 24/04/2012 18:25

Is it worth speaking to trading standards?

I really feel like they have taken the piss and I am going to be out of pocket.

Don't even want the car now because I have no faith in it Sad

fedupofnamechanging · 24/04/2012 18:39

I would talk to them, yes. Sometimes the threat of TS involvement is enough to make them do what they promised to do in the first place.

If they are selling cars and not being honest with the customer and trying to weasel out of their commitments, then that is something which needs chasing up by TS.

ENormaSnob · 24/04/2012 19:01

Thanks karma.

Yes I think I will speak to ts.

Advertising a 3 month warranty that doesn't exist is unfair. I may have well have saved some money and bought privately because I have had zero benefit from buying from a dealership at dealership prices.

I bought a brand new Citroen Pluriel (convertible C3) when they first came out ... bad mistake :( First time it rained I got soaked while driving home from work, the seats were sodden the next morning ! At the garage they got hold of the door & whole side of the car & tried to force it back into the correct position ... to no effect. I demanded and got a full refund only 3 weeks after taking delivery. Luckily I'd kept my 10-year old Vauxhall Tigra which was a joy to go back to (the Citroen had engine issues as well despite being brand new FFS !!). I kept the trusty Tigra & saved a bit more then treated myself to a convertible VW Beetle ... worth every penny. Wonderful. Much as I love most things French, that does not extend to wasting money on their cars !

BikeRunSki · 24/04/2012 19:14

DH has had two Citroens and a Renault as company cars. Quality of cars and customer service with all was appalling. Been Skoda all the way since then. Cars and customer service have been faultless. They even had my car in for a few days last year when I was very pg. Service manager rang me every day to tell me progress and always opened with " You had that baby yet? " My car was ready the day after DD was born, and they put flowers in the car when they delivered it back. Skoda (and Halifax dealership in particular ) now have my loyalty for life.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 24/04/2012 19:15

20+ years ago we broke down in my mums citreon in the middle of nowhere. It was pre mobile phones and we were miles from anywhere.

It put me off citreon for life.

I'm now off Vauxhall for life to after our last turkey of a car, cost us a fortune.

Ford. I like Ford. And mini's, but can't fit our camping gear in a mini!

ENormaSnob · 24/04/2012 19:15
Sad

Oh god this is not boding well for the future of my car.

OP posts:
landofsoapandglory · 24/04/2012 19:17

I've had 2 Citroens and never had a minutes trouble with either.

WRT the warranty you should have checked the small print.

Have you kept a copy of the advert? If you have take a copy of it, in particular where they advertise "a warranty" and take it to Trading Standards and see what they say.

ENormaSnob · 24/04/2012 19:17

I love minis too, but no good for 3 dc and camping kit Wink

Feel like I've been hugely ripped off.

OP posts:
ENormaSnob · 24/04/2012 19:19

What small print landof?

I wasn't given any paperwork pertaining to the warranty.

I was informed during the purchasing process. It was a sale point, like a look what you get if you buy with us.

I have a citroen xsara picasso - 3rd hand, my Dsis being the previous owner (well... her husband) ... it had nearly 100k miles on it but was diesel and well maintained... had it nearly 3 years - now 140K miles and no probs whatsoever. The only thing needed at last MOT was a bulb in the back reg plate bit - I heart my citroen!

ENormaSnob · 24/04/2012 19:25

We had a Picasso years ago that was ok.

Funnily enough, this is the c4 grand Picasso.

landofsoapandglory · 24/04/2012 19:26

You weren't given any paperwork WRT to the warranty?Shock Effing Hell. My Dad sells cars, he always gives warranty paperwork. Where on earth did you buy this car from?
