Bought a car from Citroen dealership 6 weeks ago. Nice car, low mileage, tax & mot and 3 months warranty. Car is 4.5 years old.

Lovely.

Except it's fucking broke 6 weeks later Angry

And the warranty only covers the first £100. Which I wasn't informed of when I bought the fucking thing Angry

I am enraged Angry

yes they are, but you still should have got some paperwork with what the stated warranty supposedly covered. You never take anything on the word of a used car salesman!

albertswearengen · 26/04/2012 13:34

I'm getting nervous now as I was about to go and buy a used Peugeot 207 estate this weekend after lots of research and don't want to buy a lemon.
I bought a C3 a few years back from a dealership and it ended up needing new brakes within 2 weeks and a new radiator within 3 months so it was a load of bollocks that the car had had a proper check. They at least did the work but they told me it had a full service history which they would get for me. It never materialised. Luckily I didn't need it when I traded it in.
I have a Skods Fabia which has been great but it needs new wishbones after 13000 miles which is also crap.

ENormaSnob · 26/04/2012 13:35

I thought I could trust a main dealership Sad

Anyhow, I have drafted a kick-ass letter and they had damn well better sort it.

Oh dear, I have a Citroen Sad

theodorakis · 26/04/2012 14:00

when I was a kid we had a brand new 2cv. From the day they collected it, it never started once. Not ever. When I am rich I am going to buy 2CVs and slowly torture them to death for revenge.

janelikesjam · 26/04/2012 14:09

Agree, never buy french cars. I had a Renault - once!!

Tokamak · 26/04/2012 14:45

I had 1 couple of Citroen 2CVs back in the 80s and then a couple of BXs in the 90s. They were great, especially the 2CVs which were so simple I used to service them myself.

Modern Citroens sound crap, though.

Just about to buy a second Fiat Multipla here, since we've run the old one into the ground after 272,000 miles.

cookiestar · 26/04/2012 14:57

Our Citroen caught fire due to a a faulty fuel line whilst we were driving down the M4 .....not long after a service from a Citroen dealer, although I'm sure that's purely coincidental.... I have never removed a car seat with a 6month old in so quickly! Needless to say will never buy Citroen again...I'd rather walk the M4.

theodorakis · 27/04/2012 08:22

Well I hate all Citroens with a passion, especially 2CVs and those ridiculous ones where the back touches the floor. Spent a childhood sitting on the side of motorways waiting for the AA with parents or various lefty loony friends of theirs. Of course the AA wouldn't touch them so we would usually have to hitch. Stupid, ugly loony cars, the lot of them. Actually when I am rich enough, I am going to buy Fiat as a public service to cease all production.

Groovee · 27/04/2012 08:47

I love my picasso and it's been our best car to date.

Fiveisenough · 01/05/2012 20:05

Op. how did you get on did your letter work?

ENormaSnob · 02/05/2012 20:04

I have had many a heated debate with the manager over the weekend.

They have said they will fix this fault but then want me to sign a disclaimer to say they are not liable for any other faults Hmm

They are also trying to pressure me into buying one of their extended warranties. Although they will give it me half price HmmHmm

I have informed trading standards of the above and have not yet decided how to proceed.

landofsoapandglory · 02/05/2012 20:15

Norma, if I were you I would ask for my money back. The garage/manager sounds really, really dodgy. They can't ask or expect you to sign a disclaimer like that. What happens if you sign it and next week something else goes bang and it costs thousands to fix?

I would be writing a letter to them now telling them in light of their dodgy dealings I'll have a refund and I would, also, be sending a letter to Citroen UK.

Good luck.

Fiveisenough · 02/05/2012 20:56

Legally you can accept the repair. I would not sign any disclaimer as it is their legal obligation. The are not doing you a favour! If you are not happy ask for your money back.

The private warranties are not worth it even at half price. The labour rates are capped and only cover about half of what Citroen charge. And there are so many exclusions. They want you to do this so as a dealer they can claim back some of their costs. You dont need one. If you decide to take out a private warranty the RAC one is about the best for authorising claims from my experience.

Well done for sticking to your guns and involving Trading Standards. You know you are right but it doesn't make them any less intimidating.

TheFlyingFishFinger · 02/05/2012 21:01

I used to work for Citroen and Peugeot.

I own a Vauxhall.

Says it all

DoesBuggerAll · 02/05/2012 21:04

I've owned 2 citroens. A berlingo (7.5 years) and a C1 (5 years). Both excellent cars and had very little trouble with them. Only 1 actual breakdown from each of them (starter motor and water pump) both times there were warning signs and thus I was prepared for the breakdown. A few niggles from the Berlingo but nothing major.

TheFlyingFishFinger · 02/05/2012 21:07

Where did you buy it from? AbbEy? Perrys? Arnold Clark?

ENormaSnob · 02/05/2012 21:23

PM'd you fishy Smile

Thanks for all the replies and help.

I really don't know how to proceed at all.

I no longer want the car as even with a warranty I do not trust this garage at all.

I feel sorry for anyone that has to go through this as it is so stressful and they are really trying to bully me into getting their warranty.
