is this a bit cheeky?

we would of course be buying drinks there and probably lunch some days

Actually Shock at the fact you would do this. If my parents had done this type of thing when I was a child I would have been mortified!

Well at least you'll be teaching them the importance of taking things that you have not paid for Hmm

MainlyMaynie · 23/04/2012 15:58

If you want 5 star facilities, you pay for them. What makes you think you're entitled to have things free that other people pay for?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/04/2012 16:04

I agree, MainlyMaynie - if you want to use the facilities of the better hotel, then cough up the money. I would feel wrong about using facilities I hadn't paid for - but then I went back into Sainsburys and paid for a sherbert fountain that had ended up under my handbag in the trolley, and that I only noticed when returning the trolley.

Integrity is doing the right thing even when no-one is watching.

We were on holiday in Salou and you wouldn't have known there was security until the day they all appeared round this group of sunbeds! Turned out they'd wandered through the only entrance and the hotel knew exactly who were guests and who weren't. They'd also come ladened down with food and drinks!

CremeEggThief · 23/04/2012 16:20

I wouldn't do it, 'cos it probably wouldn't occur to me, but I wouldn't care if anyone else would.

So, if you have the nerve, go for it!

HazleNutt · 23/04/2012 16:33

If the hotel is fine with you using the pool as you have lunch there then obviously there isn't a problem and it is perfectly acceptable to use the pool. Just let them know.
Same applies if they charge guests not staying in the hotel who want to use the facilities a certain fee, like some do and you are paying the fee. Not a problem.

If this particular hotel pool is only for the guests of the hotel, then of course it's not ok for others to use it as well.

probatequestion · 23/04/2012 16:35

'yes it does have a pool, but the one next door is much better and larger.'

and that's why it costs more. ugh - no better than theft, and if you STILL don't get it op, you have the morals of a hyena.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/04/2012 16:39

HazleNutt - the OP didn't ask the hotel if it was OK, so she has no idea if they are happy with this or not.

FuckedOfftotheFarSideofFuck · 23/04/2012 16:41

I stayed in a hotel with my parents as a teen where the 5 star hotel next door was a "sister" hotel and we were allowed to use the facilities if we wished.

gettingeasier · 23/04/2012 17:04

I am surprised you can shrug the responses on here off although I suppose that would be inherent in a personality that would consider it fine to do this in the first place

Tw1gl3t · 23/04/2012 17:56

Oh God. This is the type of thing my mother would try to do with me in tow. I was always cringing and almost dying of shame. I could never relax or enjoy myself because I was always wondering what stupid and embarassing thing she was going to do next.

ilovesooty · 23/04/2012 18:01

Yes, I think that sums up the OP's attitude. Still, if she's prepared to pass on to her children the message that stealing and freeloading are fine if you can get away with it... Hmm

CloversMama · 23/04/2012 18:16

Urgh people like you really piss me off. The building I live in has its own swimming pool. You are meant to swipe your security guard to get in, but the card reader hasn't worked for months. Some weekends it's nearly impossible to get a sun lounger because whole families who don't even live in the building turn up to use the pool.

If I realised that you had sneaked it, I would have no qualms in telling management immediately. Why do some people think that rules don't apply to them?!

GreenEyesAndHam · 23/04/2012 18:30

It's not very classy is it? Hmm

AGunInMyPetticoat · 23/04/2012 18:47

I once worked for a hotel that had really fast, reliable wifi (and if you stay at hotels on a regular basis you'll know how rare this is). It was free of charge for guests and therefore did not require a password.

We discovered just how great our signal was when we had to switch the router off for an upgrade: A guy from the block of flats next door walked into the lobby and angrily demanded to speak to the manager because we'd cut his free internet off. Hmm

OP, do you live in Central London by any chance?

ShellyBoobs · 23/04/2012 18:48

OP, do you swap price labels between cheaper products and more expensive ones in shops to avoid paying full price, too?

Isityouorme · 24/04/2012 06:17

Op .... Looks like you need to have some standards. Wtf are you teaching your children? However, I doubt the hotel you refer to is a proper five star hotel - maybe it is 5 keys from Thomas cook or something which is not the same. I hope you get caught and frog marched off site by security in front of everyone.

HazleNutt · 24/04/2012 06:47

SDTG - exactly my point. If the hotel says it's ok then it's ok. If they say no then it's obviously not ok.

EssentialFattyAcid · 24/04/2012 06:57

It's dishonest and I would feel uncomfortable about this idea rather than being chuffed if i could get away with it. It's no example to set your kids imo,
