is this a bit cheeky?

we would of course be buying drinks there and probably lunch some days

Mardy- !. I didn't really chose a name to make sense but it's Nothing Gold Can Stay. Fan of the book Outsiders. I didn't like the double G so pretended it wasn't there.

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 22/04/2012 19:39

I can't see the problem; hotels in countries like Spain and Greece don't mind this at all as you will inevitably be spending money in the bar, snack bar, restaurant etc. The hotel we regularly go to in Majorca doesn't mind if non-guests go to the evening entertainment either as again the hotel profits from this as they buy drinks and food

MardyBra · 22/04/2012 19:41

Grin at nothing old.

So your name is as nonsensical as your arguments then Wink

MardyBra · 22/04/2012 19:43

Sorry that last comment was meant to be gentle joshing. Just realised it might come across a bit strong.

scuzy · 22/04/2012 19:43

thats fine Haxagon but obviously this isnt the case with the OP as she wants to sneak in as there is loack of security. surely if she felt that was an option she could simply enquire and enjoy the swim.

nothingoldcanstay · 22/04/2012 19:43

Mmm. Again - does it matter? Nope Grin

ClaireAll · 22/04/2012 19:44

Why don't you just stay in the 5* hotel?

probatequestion · 22/04/2012 19:45

erm because they can't afford it?

nothingoldcanstay · 22/04/2012 19:46

scuzy - op did say she would be having lunch and using the bar.

No offense taken Mardy - think I prefer nothing old actually! Boyfriend is 11 years older and drives me mad.

MardyBra · 22/04/2012 19:46

OP. How would you feel if you'd paid for the 5* hotel, with it's nice empty pool where you can swim in peace without being hassled by other people. And then a load of other people just turned up and used the facilities?

DowagersHump · 22/04/2012 19:48

Everyone does know that stars are simply related to facilities don't they? So a 3 star hotel could be more luxurious than a 5 star in some ways in terms of its rooms than a 5 star. Room service and a chair in the room is pretty much all there is between them

MardyBra · 22/04/2012 19:49

Am not familiar with the Outsiders, so was completely lost on me anyway!

Just watch out for Chaos and her capital fetish though

probatequestion · 22/04/2012 19:50

the ONLY way i'd do this is if i went to reception and asked if it was ok:

'hello there oh handsome one, we want to have our lunch in your lovely hotel. would it be ok if we used the pool beforehand?'

then you have the hotel's blessing. otherwise there is NO WAY i'd set foot anywhere near.

difficultpickle · 22/04/2012 19:51

I've done this at a five star hotel but paid for a day membership. The day membership entitled you to a drink, use of the pool and access to the private beach. I was staying with a friend who lived on the island so wouldn't have wanted to stay at the hotel. They did come and check.

slowestwildebeast · 22/04/2012 19:56

You sound like a bit of a free-loading scroat. I'm a student and even I don't do that.

crazyspaniel · 22/04/2012 20:01

I tell you what. The Le Meridien hotel on Piccadilly in London is a five star hotel with a swimming pool. Next time you're shopping in the West End, why not drop in and use the pool? No? Thought not.

Threeprinces · 22/04/2012 20:04

I agree with most posters YABU and if I was staying at the 5* I'd be naffed off that lots of people were sneaking in and getting away with it.

Dancergirl · 22/04/2012 20:06

If you can get away with it, do it is what I say and ignore all these virtuous types on here.

Hotels make so much bloody profit anyway and as you say you will be spending money there.

sadsquirrel · 22/04/2012 20:06

the only hotel i've ever come across with pool security is jumeriah beach hotel, luckily we where actually staying there!

ilovesooty · 22/04/2012 20:11

I wonder if anyone in favour of this sort of freeloading thinks it's ok to buy a second class train ticket then sit in a first class seat?

lesley33 · 22/04/2012 20:12

Whenever I have stayed in 5 star hotels, they always check you are a guest there. Unless it is poorly run, the 5 star hotel will be wise to this trick.

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/04/2012 20:14

I would never do this - its just wrong.

And if I was staying in the 5 star hotel and saw people blatantly doing this - I would be most unimpressed. Especially if it meant I couldn't get my sunbed Shock Wink

BellaVita · 22/04/2012 20:16

I am with MrsCB.

HandMini · 22/04/2012 20:17

I don't understand. Is the OP intending to ask reception at the 5* and pay, or to sneak in without any payment? If the former, there's obviously no question. If the latter, I'm afraid, again there's no question - cheeky free loading.

BellaVita · 22/04/2012 20:19

Handmini - of course she isn't going to ask at reception and give any payment.
