Apparently EVERYONE else has chocolate type breakfast cereals.

Mine have to have things like shreddies/weetabix/cornflakes/rice crisps etc etc. They are allowed honey on it.
During school holidays they choose their own cereals (frosties, coco pops type stuff)
Am I a horrible mother?

I have no chips on either shoulder. They are wayyyy too unhealthy

I just dislike smug preening at other people's expense.

I'm loving this thread, it's hilarious, I'm still sniggering about the typo upthread - crunchy but cornflakes!!! The image I have in my head now....

For what it's worth, I couldn't care less what everyone else's kids are eating, but in our house, chocolate is not for breakfast. It's not about the sugar, it's just not I can't get my head around eating chocolate for breakfast. Ours have a choice/combination of: weetabix, cornflakes, crunchy nut cornflakes, sultana bran, ready brek, cheerios, Jordan's no added salt or sugar museli, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, boiled eggs, eggy bread, wholemeal toast, pancakes, baked beans. All accompanied by fruit and/or honey, and we all have bacon sandwiches at the weekend.

Phew! Nothing like a bit of choice is there ;)

Oh, and I left out yoghurt. Also, OP, I get the "but EVERYONE else has it" whine about DS1's packed lunch. I just smile and say, that's nice, and carry on regardless.

I didn't think breakfast was such a big thing. My son eats what ever he wants for breakfast be it pasta or a bowl of grated cheese!

I am alswqys slightly amused at the "my child never has sugar- only honey" brigade!

MrsHeffley · 22/04/2012 19:30

It's like the "my child doesn't watch TV only DVDs" brigade.

I think food threads always generate quite a lot of traffic. It's like they build up their own momentum...

wordfactory · 23/04/2012 14:25

But seeker doesn't honey have properties that make it highly beneficial? Wheras sugar....

FredFredGeorge · 23/04/2012 14:55

wordfactory No not really, it has very little else in it than sugar and the anti-oxidants it does have are in small amounts and of little real benefit. It might be a tiny, insy, weenie bit better, but not so much that it changes the fundamental nature of the food.

Of course, sugar isn't bad for you.

seeker · 23/04/2012 15:05

There is some evidence (I think) that some sorts of honey can help with wound healing. But it has no benefit at all if taken internally.

wordfactory · 23/04/2012 15:09

I see.
My Mum, bless her, used to keep a jar by the front door (if you knew how skint we were, you'd realise that this was quite the luxury) and give me a teaspoon every morning before school. She said it made my eyes shine Grin.

I won't tell her she was wasting her cash.

I thought I read somewhere that if it's locally produced it can help with hay fever...
