To think that Dartford is not in North London?

EXmrsmascarahead · 19/04/2012 17:31

It's not is it? The only way to get it in north London is to turn the map upside down

So if my geography is correct then why has my DH Accepted a job working in North London to be then told by the company that he will be working in Dartford?

WIBU to send the company a map marking where Dartford is in relation to North London?

Dartford ain't in North London.

Good god.

Is this a recruitment agents doing?

valiumredhead · 19/04/2012 17:34

North London??????? WTAF? Errr no, it's not.

LeeCoakley · 19/04/2012 17:36

It's in Kent. Definitely not N London. Probably HO is in N London but he's been offered a position working at a satellite site. Cheek!

verytellytubby · 19/04/2012 17:37

Cheeky buggers.

EXmrsmascarahead · 19/04/2012 17:38

Nope this isn't the agency. It's the company that have hired him, in the advert, interview and when he accepted he was told North London, yesterday he was informed that actually it's Dartford.

Dartford is in Kent!! Sounds like the same kind of geography that makes Gatwick a London airport...

Nancy66 · 19/04/2012 17:39

....could they mean Dalston?

MiseryPlop · 19/04/2012 17:40

Dartford's not anywhere near North London! Cheeky gits!

suburbandream · 19/04/2012 17:41

I live on the London/Kent borders and like to kid myself I still live in London because technically I'm in the London Borough of Bromley, but Dartford's not even in South London, definitely Kent! Do they have more than one site and have allocated him to a different branch or something?

PeppermintCreams · 19/04/2012 17:42

Dartford isn't even in London, although parts of it is inside the M25. What sort of company is it?

EXmrsmascarahead · 19/04/2012 17:43

DefinetlyDartford!

Can I ask those in the know how long in travel time does it take to get from the M1 junction on the M25 to Dartford using the tunnel?

Where is gatwick then?

Agincourt · 19/04/2012 17:45

It's in Kent

Agincourt · 19/04/2012 17:46

It depends on the traffic. They are doing loads of roadworks on that bit as well atm

HandMadeTail · 19/04/2012 17:47

It would count as North Kent, if that helps. Confused

Agincourt · 19/04/2012 17:47

Gatwick is in West Sussex

EXmrsmascarahead · 19/04/2012 17:49

Thanks agincourt you have really cheered me up NOT

I'm beginning to think there is no point in him coming home, we live up north, travelling to North London was bad enough but Dartford with road works sounds like hell!

OP posts:
Agincourt · 19/04/2012 17:51

where do you live?

Sorry i am not trying to upset you. Is he out of work atm?

2ticks · 19/04/2012 17:53

Sorry but the M1 junction round the M25 to Dartford on a daily basis would be grim (in my opinion) especially if it's on the end of an already lengthy journey from 'up north' - especially in commuter hours. Sorry :(

mirry2 · 19/04/2012 17:54

I would say junction of M1 and around the M25 to Dartford would take about an hour to an hour and a quarter.

EXmrsmascarahead · 19/04/2012 17:58

We live in the north west.
He was 'let go' from his previous job due to illness and has been at home for the past 2 months, jobs in his sector are thin on the ground up here so he's had to accept this job.

After he's paid his expenses, fuel, food and lodgings there's not going to be much left in the kitty, I'm beginning to wonder if he should tell them to stuff it and we carry on scraping by until something comes available up here

I was born in Dartford. It is definitely not in North London. y mum couldn't have held on that long!!!!

AntsMarching · 19/04/2012 18:02

That's rubbish! Dartford definitely in Kent and that's a busy section of the M25 he'll be travelling on.

Agincourt · 19/04/2012 18:06

Do you know, i think i would tell them to sod it if you feel can you can cope as you are atm. It really is a shit bit of motorway. My dh worked v nr dartford and we lived in the midlands and he had to stay mon-thurs and it cost a fortune and it was miserable for all of us. have done a stint living in Kent too and it's just a nightmare on the crossing and getting in and out.

The m1 isn't particularly pleasant either.

I don't want to be all doom and gloom but I do think it sounds like hell of a stretch for you all.

runningforthebusinheels · 19/04/2012 18:06

It's not a very good commute. Although by car it's only about 50ish minutes with no traffic, the traffic can be soooo bad - particularly during rush times, it can easily go up to 2-2.5hrs. Plus you've got the tunnel/bridge - which can get clogged up so badly and cost £1.50 each way (although is free 10pm-6am).

My dh has done this commute (in part) a few years back and it was bad - certainly not impossible, but bad.
