To think Ben and Jerry's ice-cream is crap

I love ice-cream, we've always been good friends, hardly ever fallen out. We go through periods of losing touch but always get back together in the end. But I just have no love for Ben and Jerry's, any of their varieties. There's always too much going on. There'll be caramel, chocolate bits, marshmallows, brownie bits and God knows what else, plus it's too sweet. Their pudding is well and truly over egged.

For me there's little that can compare with a soothing scoop of Haagen Dazs strawberry cheesecake although my keen eye did spot that they've a new mint choc variety out. I'm saving up that encounter till I'm most in need of an ice cream fix.

elephantsaremadeofelements I didn't know Laverstoke produced such a wide range of food. It's only up the road from here, I'll have to investigate. I used to get their stuff from the farmers market which we don't have anymore as our town is so skanky.

squoosh · 16/04/2012 17:52

howhardcanthisbe It's on Byres Road, think it used to be Morton's coffee shop. It's a couple of doors down from another ice cream shop called Three Steps to Heaven.

It's a dangerous few yards to walk when you're feeling a tad peckish.

yanbu---toooooooo sweet....

startail · 16/04/2012 17:58

YANBU
We get various small scale farm ones round here and they are all far nicer than B&J or HD.

StripyMagicDragon · 16/04/2012 18:01

YANBU, I dont like b&j ice-cream. I love Mackies ice-cream though, it's so yummy!

lolajane2009 · 16/04/2012 18:02

yanbu, too sweet and too expensive

TitsalinaBumSquash · 16/04/2012 18:04

Ice cream

One of the reasons that I know DP is 'the one' because he encouraged me to get a B&J core sundae at Cineworld on our first date (and still does) and doesn't mind paying a squillion pounds for it because it's cinema prices, and they let you sample flavours first. I like the coconut one and the one with the bears in it, with a caramel centre and more bears on top. Makes for a magical evening Grin

PickleSarnie · 16/04/2012 18:12

I lurrrrrrrve the big lumpy bits.

I've been to the factory in Vermont. If there is a heaven, it's exactly like that. Although, I'd like to think that God would make it so you didn't want to throw up after eating far too much icecream.

howhardcanthisbe · 16/04/2012 18:13

Thanks squoosh. Guess where we're going at the weekend.

PleaseChooseAnotherNN · 16/04/2012 18:16

Yabu. Very u!

When I win the lottery I am going to buy Ben and jerry. They will live with me in my mansion and I will eat b&j all day and sleep attatched to a lipo machine at night.

Though I wouldnt turn down any icecream I think kellys is delish too.

AmberLeaf · 16/04/2012 18:34

YANBU its awful stuff- way too many different bits in.

Hagen Daaz Macadamia nut brittle was my best but I havent seen it for ages, now pralines and cream is my fav.

gazzalw · 16/04/2012 18:39

Remember an American selling the delights of Chunky Monkey B&J ice-cream in the 1990s when not available over here. Stored it in "culinary delights to try at first opportunity" memory and very excited when first came across it.... So very disappointed and would go so far as to say that it's actually one of their better creations.

I have the same issues with Ben and Jerry's as with Haagan Daaz - they all seem like variations on quite a limited theme really.

DCs not keen either!

margerykemp · 16/04/2012 18:48

Cream of Galloway is best ice cream, their farm is a great day out too.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/04/2012 18:54

I've completely gone off b and j and haagen dazs too Confused and I used to adore it. Too synthetic tasting now.

I'm convinced they've down graded the ingredients.

I literally wait all year for my week of eating Roskillys ice cream in Cornwall.

And we're not going this year and they don't sell it this far north.

storytopper · 16/04/2012 19:09

I recently went to Texas and visited the Blue Bell creamery where they make this lovely stuff. Unfortunately not available in the UK.

bluebell.com/what_were_crankin_out/our_ice_cream.html

Big scoops at a dollar each to visitors. Yum.

In Scotland we have Mackies. Limited range of flavours but pretty good.

Amorino Ice cream in Bicester Village was the best ice cream I have eaten outside Italy

KenDoddsDadsDog · 16/04/2012 19:50

I don't like it. But I would have made an exception had they brought out the marzipan.
We have a fab ice cream parlour up here selling Beckleberrys. It's lovely.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 16/04/2012 19:50

YANBU. B&Js is too sweet and has too much shite in it. If I want to eat biscuits with my ice cream (or unbaked cookie dough, wtf?) I'll open a packet, thanks.

ChablisLover · 16/04/2012 20:03

To pandemoniaa there is a Maud's near windsor according to Wikipedia if you're near there.

Fortunately I'm in northern ireland and Maud's is everywhere and I have a pot of pooh bear hiding in the freezer now! Love it. BlushGrin

Have to agree ben and jerrys is crap too synthetic for me. Love Haagen daaz though. Would sell ds for the cookie dough one!

JingleMum · 16/04/2012 22:06
