To think Ben and Jerry's ice-cream is crap

I love ice-cream, we've always been good friends, hardly ever fallen out. We go through periods of losing touch but always get back together in the end. But I just have no love for Ben and Jerry's, any of their varieties. There's always too much going on. There'll be caramel, chocolate bits, marshmallows, brownie bits and God knows what else, plus it's too sweet. Their pudding is well and truly over egged.

For me there's little that can compare with a soothing scoop of Haagen Dazs strawberry cheesecake although my keen eye did spot that they've a new mint choc variety out. I'm saving up that encounter till I'm most in need of an ice cream fix.

I bought three new ice creams today, all small tubs:

Milka
Toblerone
Philedelphia strawberry shortcake.

I'm looking forward to trying them!

JambalayaCodfishPie · 16/04/2012 15:13

I bought Vermonster for DP in Morrisons for £2.00. Last week I think. Smile

Indith · 16/04/2012 15:14

B&J used to do a lovely cinnamon icecream with oatmeal cookie dough in it, it was amazing but sadly they stopped it a few years ago. Other B&J I'm not bothered about these days though I consumed a lot of phish food as a teenager!

Tesco did there own B&J rip off stuff that was good, not seen it in ages, does anyone know if it still exists?

misdee · 16/04/2012 15:14

Vermont Maple Syrup Ice Cream with Caramelised Pecans (5.5%) and a Caramel Swirl (8.5%)

picnicbasketcase · 16/04/2012 15:15

DP's favourite two were Vermonster and Karamel Sutra and they both got discontinued but they seem to have brought both back now Smile

RoadToNowhere · 16/04/2012 15:15

YANBU.
Ben&Jerry's shouldn't really be marketed as ice cream at all. It is mostly the sweepings of a sweet and biscuit factory floor all held together with small amounts of frozen stuff.

misdee · 16/04/2012 15:15

and fossil fuel is yum!

think sainsburys have ben and jerrys half price atm as well

ScrambledSmegs · 16/04/2012 15:16

Missdee I luffs you

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 16/04/2012 15:17

YABU if only because Cherry Garcia is simply the best ice cream on earth and Phish Food is glorious stuff too.

Haagen Dazs (sp?) is over-rated in my opinion. Green and Blacks ice cream is heavenly, especially the plain chocolate one.

But Cherry Garcia rules.

confusedpixie · 16/04/2012 15:19

YABU. DP and I love going 'Phishing' whilst watching a film! Nothing like a tub of B&Js :)

Indith: I had some of the rip off tesco stuff late last year, it was brilliant wasn't it! Forgot about that, I don't have a tesco near me these days though :(

squoosh · 16/04/2012 15:22

Phish Food is the worst of all. It's like a game of hunt the ice cream amongst all the crap.

Frontpaw your double cream, lemon curd comb sounds bee-yoo-tiful. I will have to kill you though for planting such evil recipes in my brain.

Belgo - I NEED to know where to get tolerance ice cream!!!

MrsHoarder · 16/04/2012 15:26

Ice cream should be plain. Then served with homemade deserts (preferably of the hot and chocolatey variety) or cake. B&J is just sugary rubbish.

belgo · 16/04/2012 15:29

Frontpaw I have no idea where you can get tolerance ice cream Grin.

But the toblerone ice cream is from my local corner shop, in a small flemish town, in Belgium. I have never seen it anywhere else.

marshmallowpies · 16/04/2012 15:33

Anything with 'caramel swirls' or marshmallows in is too sickly for me.

Cookie Dough is good & I like the baked Alaska one with white choc bits in...but that's about it.

Best vanilla ice cream is Roskelly's or Mackies which you can get in the Co-op. would rather have either of those with maple syrup over or hot choc sauce than B&Js!

Frontpaw · 16/04/2012 15:35

Bloody iPad predictive text. I quite like the name though...

Mackies is the cats pyjamas.

SarahStratton · 16/04/2012 15:35

Morrisons have Vermonster and Oh My Apple Pie. Which is to die for.

This Skinners of Boston stuff Bunty, is that Boston, Lincs or Boston MA?

InNeedOfNewClothes · 16/04/2012 15:36

AIBU to think Ben and Jerry's ice-cream is crap

I'm in shock that anyone could have actually think that. I love Ben & Jerrys. I love it and if I thought I could eat it without ballooning by about 3 inches around my sizeable ass I would eat tubs and tubs of it.

MistyMountainHop · 16/04/2012 15:37

omg yes i remember that indith, what was it called? it was divine. why oh why did they stop making it? :(

YANBU I agree completely.

My fave is haagen dazs dulce de leche

keepingupwiththejoneses · 16/04/2012 15:39

B&J is yuk! And what is with Phish Food, why would anyone want ice cream called that. I agree, far too much going on. Strawberry cheesecake is heaven.

CrackedNipplesSuchFun · 16/04/2012 15:43

Oh my, mint choc chip HG... Right I'm off to get some.

YANBU, b&j far to sweet and way to much going on.

DairyNips · 16/04/2012 15:49

I don't like banana ice cream but Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey was amazing. Its disappeared nowSad

PurpleRomanesco · 16/04/2012 15:55

Ben and Jerry's try to hard. Ice cream should be simple.

Haagen Dazs Dulce De Leche is heaven.
