I was accused of trying to leave a Tesco store without paying back in November due to there being a technical problem with their self service checkout system. V. v embarassing and infuriating. I was treated like complete scum.

Next day, I called the store, spoke to the Duty Manager and he said he would look into it and come back to me asap. He did'nt. I complain again at the Customer Services counter 2 weeks later (I am in there most days). The assistant is horrified that no one had contacted me. Another 2 weeks later or thereabouts, I go back to the Customer Services counter. Lo and behold, they have no record of my complaint. No knowledge whatsoever, I am told to telephone the national Customer Services number. I do this and they ask me to put my complaint in writing by email which I do. We get to February and they reply by email saying they are waiting for the manager from the store to investigate it but will come back to by the end of the week. March, I email again, no reply and now last week, no reply again.

I would drop it but I get an irrational surge of fury every time I go in there (almost next to the DCs school so very inconvenient NOT to go there and they would'nt give a shit anyway) that they think they can take my money and treat me like shit without so much of an apology for their embarrasing and distressing mistake. AIBU?

I go to Tesco sometimes (it's my 4th preference supermarket and is sometimes handy) and I would never tar all the staff with the same brush.

BUT it was at Tesco a couple of years ago that I was told by the checkout woman that, come the referendum, I would have to go home to England. So that was nice.

I can't help but think something's a bit amiss with their customer service training. because of their reputation I didn't feel up to going to complain to the manager in case s/he had the same attitude. :(

Convenience, convenie-schmence that doesn't really work

I'd still go elsewhere.

There's a cafe and a corner shop near me that could only really be more convenient if they were in my back garden. Nice coffee and good stock too. But the staff are miserable superior sods in both, so I walk a bit further instead.

I may even stick my fingers up at them inside my coat pockets sometimes when I walk past. [childish]

I love tesco. I find the food good quality. The staff second to none. Stores clean and tidy. Clubland reward system gives me my Christmas shop for free every year!
Mt only.gripe is they closed down the tesco express by my.house leaving us with not many shops at all!

Hannahfftl · 07/12/2015 20:33

I like Tescos but agree they could clean up their act a bit. I had an incident there getting stabbed by a pin (from a clothing item left on the ground) and told them about it because it was dangerous (and the shop was also messy) and they took forever to try and make note of my "injury". I still like Tescos though.

I agree and the fact I live close to a Tesco big shop is more irritating. The fact is big store but barely have something, like ASDA for example usually are big stores and really have products Tesco is an embarrassment instead. It happened to me too one time when I was like trying to get some broccolis from a shelf as a customer I am allowed to get what I need and an employ was in my way and wasn't even moving the fuck away and then when I tried to reach the item I need it she looked at me like I was getting into her way.. I was like.. what a f* ! 😑. If I could I would go live somewhere else but I can't I really can't stand anymore this Tesco closer to where I live.
Another time I brought my pet inside because pretty much I had to do it and one someone behind working at a cashier told me in a rude way this phrase: - Next time don't bring it inside! - The way she said it was totally out of line and rude, to the point that on the same day I went to see the manager about it and explained what happened and pretty much he done nothing about the situation because that cashier was still working there instead she should have got fired!.
Then there is usually another Tesco employee which she basically most of the times don;t even work she chat and gossip around ( also about the customers ) 🙄when instead she should be doing her job but seems hard for her to achieve such thing because she is slow too. And how can I forget about also this other employee, which this time his a male of seems like of middle age and looks like he is foreign like Indian - Muslim or whatever else anyway the point is not where he come from but of the fact that every time I go to Tesco close to where I live he seems to think his a normal behavior's to always wanting to chat with in this case my partner when most of the times me and my partner we just want to go to the shop get what we need and quickly get out. Then maybe this one should focus on his job and leave the customers alone!. By the way this is the Tesco at Colinton Scotland.

This thread is ELEVEN years old. Was this worth rehashing!?

what a fuck that was bad to get that when you were used to work there. Personally Morrison can be ok for some things or otherwise use Sainsbury's, Waitrose I know is more expensive but is amazing, and some things from Asda big stores.

JMSA · 07/08/2023 10:17

Once, my card didn't go through properly at the self-service. I walked away unaware. A member of staff fetched me, I apologised and went back to the till to finish the transaction.
I'm sorry, but I'm really not seeing the big deal here. Shit happens sometimes.

JMSA · 07/08/2023 10:20

And the Tesco staff at my local store are fine. I would wonder if it were me who had the problem, if I had a problem with everyone else!

I'm no fan of Tesco, but the staff at my local branch are lovely - cheerful, friendly, helpful and some of them have been there for what seems like forever. And it's clean, too.

The thing that pisses me off about the shop is that they never seem to have everything I want in stock, no matter how mundane the missing item is. I swear, if I went in there for 2 things, they wouldn't have one of them. And they seem not to stock larger sizes of a lot of things, so your shopping ends up costing more.

If you want really bad customer service in this town, you really need to go to Homebase. The stuff there are rude, lazy and don't seem to have a clue about anything. There was one helpful and knowledgeable person working there, but he works in Screwfix now.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 07/08/2023 10:35

My local Tesco store is not dirty and the staff are not rude. The delivery drivers in particular are very polite.

CakAndMoreCake · 07/08/2023 10:49

I gave up on them after crap customer service. Used to have a weekly delivery but it was late so often. One night the roads were poor, kinda expected a cancellation but as they’d shown up many times at around 11pm for a 6pm delivery I waited up. Tried to contact to find out if they’d show, impossible. They showed they were out for delivery on the updates until they cancelled at lunchtime the next day.
I cancelled my delivery pass as the response I got was so rude. Apparently they will not contact customers ever if the delivery is cancelled, even in this case knowing they’d cancelled it themselves mid-afternoon. The roads weren’t that bad, I’d have easily driven to the shop myself. It was the sheer rudeness of the reply that for me, like I was a harassing loon for saying ‘can’t you tell customers if you aren’t delivering’ in a mild way. I got a moan back like I’d asked for the moon, saying that this would not be possible as ‘stores can’t be expected to find staff to call people’. The drivers have mobiles and often call!
Stupidly I used them again months later. I live on a major road, pretty short with a clearly marked door and no view obstructions. However the driver couldn’t find it. Called me on in his mobile (that they apparently don’t have according to my last contact) and shouted about it. I directed him to basically cross the road and turn around politely and went to meet him and he greeted me crossing the road with ‘how the fuck did you expect me to find this house’ and threw the bags on the pavement. I factually fed back what happened and no one replied. I was glad my husband was in that day as I reckoned the guy would have carried on instead of stalking off when he saw my husband come out.
Its surreal the customer service locally frankly.
