To think that TESCO are the biggest bunch of WANKERS ever (apart from the Tories of course))

I was accused of trying to leave a Tesco store without paying back in November due to there being a technical problem with their self service checkout system. V. v embarassing and infuriating. I was treated like complete scum.

Next day, I called the store, spoke to the Duty Manager and he said he would look into it and come back to me asap. He did'nt. I complain again at the Customer Services counter 2 weeks later (I am in there most days). The assistant is horrified that no one had contacted me. Another 2 weeks later or thereabouts, I go back to the Customer Services counter. Lo and behold, they have no record of my complaint. No knowledge whatsoever, I am told to telephone the national Customer Services number. I do this and they ask me to put my complaint in writing by email which I do. We get to February and they reply by email saying they are waiting for the manager from the store to investigate it but will come back to by the end of the week. March, I email again, no reply and now last week, no reply again.

I would drop it but I get an irrational surge of fury every time I go in there (almost next to the DCs school so very inconvenient NOT to go there and they would'nt give a shit anyway) that they think they can take my money and treat me like shit without so much of an apology for their embarrasing and distressing mistake. AIBU?

tesco customer service is shit on the whole (there are some good members of staff im sure) i went in to find a sauce mix yesterday, couldnt find what i wanted so asked a lady. She just looked so bored to have to even try to look at the shelf where i had looked. Said 'if it isnt here then i guess we dont do it' hmm really... a mushroom stroganoff mix? So i left it and at the till low and behold i found some on a plinth not anywhere near the other packet mixes. Which had she bothered to go and find out she would of be able to help me. I used to work for Sainsburys and we always had courses just on customer service. If a customer asks you something and you dont know then go and find someone that does. Just make a little effort it goes a long way.

I was only there cause i had a voucher, will go back to Sainsbury or Morrisons now.

Put it on their Facebook wall if you're on FB. We tried that recently when we had problems with Jessops. We went from being solidly ignored to being responded to swiftly. I also emailed the CEO of Jessops.

The problem with Tesco as a company is that they think they are invincible and that they can treat customers as they like, as customers need them more than they need the customers! However, as threads like this illustrate, more and more people are fed up with Tesco and do shop elsewhere instead and actually go out of their way to avoid using Tesco stores, so if they offend enough people over the years maybe at some point Tesco will find themselves in not as good a position as they are in now! Their takings were down this year if I remember correctly! Look what happened to M&S in the past, and they used to display the same kind of arrogance displayed by Tesco

Proudnscary · 12/04/2012 14:27

I boycotted Tesco three years ago because they are taking over the world and helping to erode the high street and small businesses.

ANYWAY, not read all responses but take this to your local paper and post it anywhere public you can.

trikken · 12/04/2012 14:28

WRT rudeness it goes both ways. Im friendly, helpful and always smile but I get rude customers who dont say please or thank you after I've helped them and it makes my job not fun either.

Proudnscary · 12/04/2012 14:28

(ps we have a huge Tesco near us with parking which is way more convenient than the tiny Sainsbury's with no parking but I still won't go to Tesco)

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 12/04/2012 14:30

I'd say though trikken that rude customers are par for the course for someone who chooses to work in retail. Yes, it's not nice dealing with rude people but it doesn't mean staff should then have a chip on their shoulder about it and have a sullen rude attitude in general because some customers are rude to them.

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 12/04/2012 14:30

Not saying you have a rude attitude btw trikken :-)

usualsuspect · 12/04/2012 14:31

I'll tell my DD how shit you all think she is shall I ?

Because of course none of your DCs would ever work in Tesco would they.

Itsjustafleshwound · 12/04/2012 14:32

Unfortunately it is hard to generalise when you have had incredibly rude and bad service. It doesn't give you an excuse to be rude and unpleasant, but at the same time big stores which are all to ready to take your money should also apply the same principles to seeing that all complaints and queries are met with similar haste ...

In my experience often the state of the store when I walk in is an indication of what sort of service to expect. Tesco stores around where I live are usually overcrowded and dirty with many customers around the service desk ...

Itsjustafleshwound · 12/04/2012 14:33

hard not to ...

LST · 12/04/2012 14:34

I think your all being a bit harsh on ALL the Tesco staff tbh Hmm

usualsuspect · 12/04/2012 14:34

I've never been in a dirty Tesco , Lidl on the other hand is a bloody shit tip .

PostBellumBugsy · 12/04/2012 14:35

Make an appointment to see the store manager. Ask the Manager of the customer service centre to call you.
I don't think there is any point writing to the Chairman. I worked for a huge FMCG company and if any complaints were sent to the Chairman or CEO or any other non-customer facing senior manager, a nice acknolwedgement was sent saying that the letter had been passed to the appropriate customers services department to be dealt with. In most cases, the senior member of staff didn't even see the letter. It is their PA's job to deal with stuff like that. The big wigs are out negotiating multi-million pound deals on the golf course!

Frontpaw · 12/04/2012 14:36

Ah Ususal - I am sure your DD is a lovely person. I donthave a problem with the staff - we have some really lovely people working in our local Tescos.

I think their quality if rubbish. I went off them when I rememberer that my mum had told me that £1 in every £7 spent in UK shops is spent at Tesco when the Dame Shirley Porter hoo ha (tax evasion) was going on. That just made my tiny mind boggle!

SearchSquad · 12/04/2012 14:37

You are all BU. You can't judge a whole chain because of one store. The Tesco where I shop is a pleasant and clean store with courteous staff. It also employs a lot of local people. I would not call any of them 'Wankers'.

usualsuspect · 12/04/2012 14:37

I don't care if you don't like Tesco for any other reason , but to say all the staff are rude and lousy at their jobs pisses me right off.

sparkle101 · 12/04/2012 14:37

I used to work at Tesco and to be honest they really don't make it easy to deal with customer complaints/concerns but that is the company not the staff's fault. I agree that they should have replied to you by now and need to speak to each other however there are rude people in Tesco, and in Sainsburys and Asda and (insert name of any organisation not necessarily retail here) doesn't mean we're all bad!

badtasteflump · 12/04/2012 14:37

Is it not very 'in' to bash Tesco though?

Personally I love their fresh pizza. That's as far as my opinion on them goes.

Frontpaw · 12/04/2012 14:38

The very very woooorrse customer service is... BA. There, I've said it. Flame me if you can.

bubby64 · 12/04/2012 14:39

I have also had trouble with Tescos, yes, I know a lot of the staff are nice, (my best friend works there, and shes lovely!) but a lot are rude and poorly trained, especially, it seems to me, those who are meant to be on the Customer Services Desk! Sorry, but Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury, Waitrose, Co-op Aldi and Lidl ALL have better customer service!
It has even come to light they have also recently been panned by the Health & Safety Executive about their poor attitude and obstructive manner when several serious accidents had occured at their stores.

Itsjustafleshwound · 12/04/2012 14:40

There I agree with you front paw ... but at least I only have to deal with them every 18 months or so not weekly Grin

Ghoulwithadragontattoo · 12/04/2012 14:42

I remember your thread from before (not least as I'd had a run in with our Tesco that week). Can't believe they can't even be bothered to respond to your complaint when they showed you up through no fault of yours.

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 12/04/2012 14:43

ALL staff in my local Tesco are rude, arrogant wankers. There, I've said it. So shoot me!

Chatting to colleagues whilst serving customers and not even acknowledging the customer, getting huffy when someone is in the way and daring to look at merchandise whilst they're trying to get through with their stock trolley, I've even been moaned at by a trolley attendant for putting my trolley into the trolley park as he'd just emptied it. I feel as a company, Tesco give attitude to their employees that the customer isn't important and that they are superior to the customer. As I said before, I experience excellent service in Sainsburys and Asda, but never ever in Tesco.

trikken · 12/04/2012 14:45

I am of course lovely, Hexagonal Wink

as with any place of work with customers if rudeness from a staff member is extreme and a constant thing then their manager should be informed so they can be retrained and behaviour dealt with.
