To not lend my Kindle to somebody for the weekend?

Saw a friend of a friend at lunchtime today when I was out getting a sandwich - we work in the same building. We drank our coffee together and got talking about books we've read lately. I told her she should read something I've just finished on my Kindle because I really enjoyed it.

Her: 'I haven't got a Kindle though, could I borrow yours and give it back when I've read it?'

Me (shocked!): 'Um sorry, no, I use it all the time'.

Her: 'But I'm a really fast reader - I could read it over the weekend and give it back Monday.'

Me: (feeling really uncomfortable now): 'Sorry, no, honestly, I don't even let the DC use it, I'm so attached to it

Her: Oh. Okay then (huffily). Well I'm off anyway. .

WTF? I love my Kindle. It has a cover for its cover and everything. So she can fuck right off.

Just wanted to rant.

YA sooooooo NBU!!!! I never go anywhere without mine and it is very different to borrowing a book. Will happily lend out books but my Kindle never ever leaves my side. She is taking the piss if you ask me!

Alibabaandthe40nappies maybe that's your Dad's master plan!

I have on occasion allowed my DC to borrow mine, but they now have Kindle on their iPods and use those. You could lend ex-friend a kindle book, but not the Kindle!
YANBU ex-friend is BU!

Put Kindle ap on your computer then you have a back up.

Only had time to read the first page so apologies if I'm repeating anyone...

I'm more than happy to loan out single books, but asking to borrow your kindle is like asking to borrow your entire library.

Nobody in their right mind would ask someone to loan them their entire library and then throw a strop when that turned out not to be convenient. YANBU

Sorry, no. Not my kindle. No.

Sorry, no. I have work files on there.

Sorry, I've already downloaded and started the next volume.

Sorry, no; but you could download it to your computer/smartphone and I'll lend you the file.

Lend somebody your kindle?

I don't understand that concept.

Sorry if I missed it but what was the book you were discussing?

nulgirl · 12/04/2012 20:32

Wow you lot are over-possessive with your kindles. Yesterday I lent mine to my dad as it has a couple of books on it which he wants to read. I love my dad and trust him with it. On the other hand I would absolutely not lend it to some random person from work. Especially as it is sooo easy to spend a lot of money with a couple of clicks.

There is some software you can get on smart phones / PCs to read e-books - tell her to get that, then you can lend her the book from your kindle

Pastabee · 13/04/2012 06:55
