Yes it sounds weird. Point is, some people (muslim and non muslim) are of the opinion you cannot possibly identify as this, but I love our culture and Im enjoying passing it down to my ds (in the form of afternoon tea and gentlemanly manners ;) )

I love my religion, and boy do I love my culture :)

When it's raining outside I usually wrap my scarf around my head so that my hair doesn't get wet. Whilst doing this I have had abuse shouted at me on several separate occasions, for being a Muslim and have been told that I should be ashamed of myself as I'm white and that I'm a disgrace and all sorts of other horrible things, I live in London. So I think I understand what the OP is saying.

cantspel · 12/04/2012 17:15

Radical Islam is the threat not everything or everyone islamic.

PosiePaques · 12/04/2012 17:17

Radical Islamists are more widespread and dangerous than other types of fuckwit, why is this?

I've been called a white bitch and a slag with illegitimate children, by a group of Muslim men....in this country.

seeker · 12/04/2012 17:24

Well, if you were showing the respect for other people's religions -however batty- that is always being demanded on mumsnet, you should have covered yourself up.

cantspel · 12/04/2012 17:32

why should i have? i was not in anything skimpy. I had lower arms and ankles showing so hardly walking around in beachwear and i was not in a mosque or anywhere near one. I was shopping. They should have shown respect to me as a visitor to their country and just left me to buy my tourist toot in peace

PosiePaques · 12/04/2012 17:37

Fine to cover in religious buildings, like when I was in Bangkok Palace I covered my shoulders, but not walking around Bangkok!!

hardboiledpossum · 12/04/2012 17:38

cantspel I have lived as a child in many countries around the world and have travelled extensively as an adult, including in Egypt. I have never encountered any abuse in any other country. Wearing a bikini on a moroccan beach I got some slightly strange looks but nothing more.

hardboiledpossum · 12/04/2012 17:40

You seem to be missing my point anyway. I imagine that it is hard balancing being white british with being Muslim, when you are likely to face a lot of negativity. Which was my experience.

nailak · 12/04/2012 17:41

so to sum it up, in all cultures and religions their are abusive racist twats

nailak · 12/04/2012 17:42

on the amnesty international human rights campaign page, the top results are us and uk www.amnesty.org.uk/content.asp?CategoryID=10224

cantspel · 12/04/2012 17:43

hardboiled i have been to egypt many times so this one woman didn't put me off but the fact is it does happen, not so much in the tourist areas as all they want to do is part you from your money asap and you will find very few egyptian women there anyway.

I have worn a bikini on a beach in morocco and on a beach in egypt and not had so much as a second glance.

PosiePaques · 12/04/2012 17:44

Human rights issues in China are not justified by a religious book.... but their human rights abuses are pretty horrific.

CrockoDuck What an outrageous thing to say that Islam is a disgraceful religion. I think exactly the same things could be said about christianity. Religions evolve. I say this as a christian.

PosiePaques · 12/04/2012 18:08

But it is 2012, we have knowledge, education and information that can be shared, at least when the Christians were terrible they could be excused on the basis of it practically being in the dark ages.

PosiePaques · 12/04/2012 18:08

Islam was borne out of the notion that Christianity wasn't strict enough.
