This is not a joke. Each month they visit a school and detail some of the Mums outfits. I mean I am living in the centre of Paris and am not encountering this ridiculousness

What is wrong with you people? Have you got nothing better to do than bitch at or about people.

I 'searched' out an 11 month old link because a friend and i were talking about the magazine and this particular link came up. A friend is someone you spend time with rather than sitting on your own on your computer bitching about people's lives, of which you have no knowledge of.

erm I slagged off the mag not you.
Jeez love lighten up
oh and the friend comment makes you sound a tad petulant.

Ahahahaha I just clicked on that link and scrolled down and recognised one of the mums from the school DS1 used to attend. It was full of mums who had more money than sense and were obsessed with appearance one of the many reasons we didn't fit in there Grin

Think those pictures have been sent in think I spotted the 'StyleGuile' lady in one of them so yes probably a percentage of those ladies probably have agendas to push. I have only seen the online version they all look pretty normal to me nothing really uberglam, magazine may be different of course. Doesn't really bother me or make me feel inferior or in anyway pressured in needing to glam up for the school run, just looks like the magazine has taken note of the popularity of 30 and 40 something mum blogs and come up with this way of tapping into this. In some respects getting more 'normal' shaped people into fashion magazines can only be a good thing surely ?? instead of the usual troop of airbrushed celebrities. Glamour magazine has its street style section cant really see this is any different if you don't like it don't buy it. Have to be honest I have never really considered Easy Living as a fashion magazine tis news to me, I had it filed under same heading as Good Housekeeping would consider Vogue and InStyle as fashion to be honest.

Not "bitching about people's lives", just commenting on the presentation of their apparel.
Which I still think is pretentious shite.

Oh, I think jane9000 was talking about me, with the 'bitch at or about people'

So the rest of you may have friends, and it's me who is 'sitting on your own ... bitching about people's lives, of which you have no knowledge of.'

Agree with people up thread who have said that EL is crap now. It has been since the lovely Susie Forbes moved on, IMHO.

I doubt Jane will be back but I'm sure we can expect yet another "mumsnet is full of biatches" article, radio programme sometime soon. Or maybe an article in next month's EL Grin

May I just say that aside from the School Runway, I HATE the new 'Passion' section too?

It makes me cringe, and also means I can't leave the magazine lying around the house!

I am trying to image myself posing, all side-on and bent-knee-ed with a coy little head-tilt, in the middle of the road outside DS1's pre-school.

I suspect the effect might be rather spoiled by the fact that I do the "school run" in whatever combination of suit skirt and jacket happens to be clean with my favourite baggy cardigan over the top, and footwear ranging from ugg boots to flip-flops, depending on the weather.

There's another female lawyer with children at the school/pre-school and she is all smart and shiny, like you'd expect a lawyer to be. I have thus far resisted any attempts to be introduced to her - one of the staff keeps trying. I'm imagining her looking at me incredulously and saying "You're a lawyer? YOU?"

I've cancelled my subscripion. It's gorn downhill since Deborah Joseph took over it. She clearly still thinks that she's running Company magazine. If she thinks that her reader demographic gives a shit about what some pampered mothers in Hampstead are wearing to take little Jacinta to her Montessori school/about swotting up how to give a decent blow-job, she is very mistaken.

Oh, old thread.

So no-one will be rocking up to take pictures of my unique "cardi-and-flip-flops" style any time soon?

kungfupannda · 18/04/2013 16:58

Maybe we should do an alternative MN version....

I don't really care what others wear to be honest but some of you on this thread seem to take pride in trying look as scruffy and unkempt and possible and openly scorn others who want to make an effort with their appearance and enjoy fashion. Each to their own.

StuntGirl · 18/04/2013 17:04

I will come take a picture of your cardi kungfu. It sounds very fetching.

Report
Birdsgottafly · 18/04/2013 17:15

I have never understood the need to be unkempt, unless you have to dress from charity shops. It is easy to pick a jacket and shoes/boots that will fit many looks, in colours that you wear. A few pairs of whatever you want to wear on the bottom and top, all similar colour themed and you have an outfit that works. Unless you have a disabled child or a baby, there is no excuse to be dirty. My DD attends a SN school and the parents did used to look a lot better than those pictured, it is one thing that you do for yourself and it does make you feel better. Surely you are just dressing for the day, when you get up?

"Unless you have a disabled child or baby there is no excuse to be dirty"
Shock
I'll mention that to my friend who's child is in a special school and suggest she needn't bother with her appearance any more.

I've got a disabled stepson. Where does leave me on the sartorial scale please?

Report
Spandler · 18/04/2013 18:05

Like most features of this type, it only shows middle class women that can afford Hobbs, and Boden, and Kew. I don't suppose it would do the magazine's image any good if they visited the town where I live and saw us all dressed in New Look, Primark and Dorothy Perkins' clothes.

It's like most of the style blogs; totally unattainable, and just serves to make those of us that haven't got a big clothing budget feel like poo
