Just as the title says really - that if you use text speak in your posts I do assume that you are probably a less intelligent poster.

I liked that, Hecate.
It's amazing how punctuation can completely change the tone of a sentence.

usualsuspect · 06/04/2012 22:43

Message deleted for being peng.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 06/04/2012 22:45

ninah · 06/04/2012 22:45

usualsuspect · 06/04/2012 22:47

LadyBeagleEyes · 06/04/2012 22:50

What's peng?

usualsuspect · 06/04/2012 22:52

It means somethings good I think.

ninah · 06/04/2012 22:53

is it the antonym for reem?

GetOrfMoiiLand · 06/04/2012 22:54

Peng is good.

I rared up at dd in manner of Lady Bracknell 'what does peng mean' and she said it means cool. She also curled her lip at me during explanation.

LadyBeagleEyes · 06/04/2012 22:56

I live in the Highlands.
It takes a while for teenspeak to get up here.
I'll be well ahead if ds ever utters it though [bugrin]

PinotCantDoEasterNamesSoGaveUp · 07/04/2012 10:53

I'm uncool.

ChronicToothAche · 07/04/2012 11:12

I have fairly recently started exchanging text/emails with my brother (always communicated in person or on the phone before) due to issues with elderly parents requiring very frequent contact. I was shocked by my brother's excessive use of text speak! He is 12 years older than me (in his fifties) and also significantly more intelligent than me (we both have 'hard' degrees from 'good' universities but I know he wipes the floor with me intellectually). He does however act younger than me. Anyway, I would have agreed with you six months ago but now I'm not so sure.

KisMittz · 07/04/2012 11:12

Not keen on here but Txt speak took off to reduce the cost of texting as there is a limit to how many characters per text you can have... and it took off and developed into a 'language' of it's own, passed the development of contracts that allowed endless texting on bargainous contract deals.

But I cn spk fluent txt 2 mi DC's n it mks me chuckle TBH.

Grin

YABU to make assumptions about the level of intelligence of people who use text speak on here.... even intelligent people can be annoying Wink

goodfreyedaysusan · 07/04/2012 11:30

my keyboard has keys that work intermittently... shift, w and r mainly. the things I write do occasionally look like incomprehensible txt spk. Blush

does mean that I hand out the odd Gin though... Grin

Ribeno · 08/04/2012 08:34

Oh dear- you are very silly and judgemental. I use txt speak in text msgs to so I type less and get more in. Sorry that you think Im less intelligent.

JustHecate · 08/04/2012 09:36

To be fair, ribeno. The OP said text speak in POSTS.

So was talking about the use of text speak on this message board, where there are no character limits, and not the use of it in text messages.

AutumnSummers · 08/04/2012 09:53

Language evolves. YABU.
