Just as the title says really - that if you use text speak in your posts I do assume that you are probably a less intelligent poster.

I didn't read it that way at all...

It's just an observation of how MN tends to work, not a rude commentary on anybody's perceived lack of intelligence.

Agree with usual and mydog completely.

Latsia · 06/04/2012 14:33

Eeek! Have wandered into a scuffle.

ThisIsANickname · 06/04/2012 14:33

HoudiniHissy I agree with everything you've said.

southeastastra · 06/04/2012 14:34

lesley do you only post on aibu?

lesley33 · 06/04/2012 14:36

No - honest Blush. Only today.

And everyone I would like to point out that I did post earlier that although I do secretly think this, I do know it is pure prejudice. I also don't have any issues with spelling or grammar at all.

lebof I understand exactly what you were saying and didn't think you were being insulting.

Your post was made in a completely different way to houdini's.

Her's, imo, was just bloody rude. "unseemly" is one word guaranteed get my back up!

LadyBeagleEyes · 06/04/2012 14:43

at unseemly.
Who says that anymore?

southeastastra · 06/04/2012 14:44

mn ceased to 'work' as it did years ago a long while back

hmm about the time of aibu Grin

the reason this site works is that people can be free to talk how they want to

it has thousands of posters now, i still quite like it mind, though get arsey with the posts like the ops.

lesley33 · 06/04/2012 14:45

Come on now...we are all laydees here. Can we all just be a bit nicer please? [bugrin]

southeastastra · 06/04/2012 14:46

you started it! calling posters less intelligent

you did you did you did

molly3478 · 06/04/2012 14:46

If you are young enough to use phones at school then default is often text speak on phones.

lesley33 · 06/04/2012 14:47

No I didn't!

LetsKateWin · 06/04/2012 14:48

My dad uses text speak and he's 70. Personally, I don't really like it, and sometimes I find it hard to understand, but I wouldn't assume that somebody was less intelligent for using it.

Why do people on here like putting others down so much? So what if people are less intelligent? Intelligence presents itself in different forms. Some people are all-rounders, and others may excel in specific areas. Some people have to work much harder than others to get the same results, we're not all the same and I don't see why people should be judged all the time.

generally speaking yes I do judge folk who use text speak whether on MN or in RL and especially if they are speaking to me in a professional capacity and are about my age i.e. very old. I judge away there.

GreenEyesAndHam · 06/04/2012 14:50

Ah but if people really did stop using text speak, there'd be one less thing to feel superior about.

And we wouldn't want that, would we?

lesley33 · 06/04/2012 14:51

everlong - I was actually expecting to get flamed on this thread.

OP posts:
LadyBeagleEyes · 06/04/2012 14:51

Mn is fine as it is.
I honestly don't think I'd have liked it back in the day when it was all fields and moldies.
I like the variation of posters, from those on benefits up to the super rich.
You can be an arsehole in either situation, or you can be lovely and funny too.
The latter are the ones I gravitate to, I don't really care about spelling etc., but I honestly can't read textspeak.

LeBOF · 06/04/2012 14:53

I've never really understood why people bother with text speak: modern phones autocorrect (and apps like Swiftkey practically type for you), and the number of characters permitted is nowhere near as restrictive as it used to be. There's just no need nowadays for L8r and all that. I would have thought that if anything, text speak would out you as a near-Luddite with an ancient Nokia, who still believes we're living in 2003.

usualsuspect · 06/04/2012 14:53

Did I get deleted because I was wearing my skanky trackies?
