Just as the title says really - that if you use text speak in your posts I do assume that you are probably a less intelligent poster.

No.

badtasteflump · 06/04/2012 16:50

I have a friend who is the same-ish age as me (late 30's), is very intelligent and is a high school maths teacher. She's lovely, but she uses text speak all the time and the longer she has been working amongst teenagers, the worse she's got, now sometimes using it whilst speaking.

Honestly, she's a lovely friend but she sounds like a loon. Her pupils love her though.

Meglet · 06/04/2012 16:54

I can't stand text speak, even in text messages.

It's even worse in e-mails or Freecycle requests.

PinotCantDoEasterNamesSoGaveUp · 06/04/2012 19:40

What if you buy Boden but from a charity shop?

What then, hmmm?

May I play on MN but only for half the time?

I NEED CLARIFICATION.

Fuckers the lot of yous (not you Gerrof and Sue)

O & i h8 txtspk. I had to really concentrate to type that

SuePurblybiltFromChocolate · 06/04/2012 19:42

I buy my Boden from the charity shop, Pinot. It means we're allowed on MN but people are allowed to point and laugh at us.

I've now read back this thread and have a question:

How can elitist possibly be in the same sentence as dm reader? Confused

Except in a question like this.

:o

Campari · 06/04/2012 20:00

I don't like it when every message my sister sends me online or by text ends with "Xxx," you wouldn't kiss someone after every sentence in real life, would you? Also hate being called "hun." Angry

i sometimes think txt speak is kind of cool

it is kind of old fashioned to completely type out word after word when 1 or two figs cud do it

JustHecate · 06/04/2012 21:39

so. has blood been spilled on this thread yet then? Grin

fwiw, I would, as others have said, simply assume they were young. It's how the young speak these days. It's got nothing to do with intelligence.

It IS a shame though, because language is a beautiful thing, and I fear it is being lost.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 06/04/2012 21:42

I can't bear it either. It's lazy. And crap.

southeastastra · 06/04/2012 21:43

really though it's what you say not how you say it

innit

snapsnap · 06/04/2012 21:47

I think it depends on the persons age. I find a lot of those in their late teens/ early twenties do it without even thinking. I hate it but language always evolves and this is a phase.

JustHecate · 06/04/2012 21:50

not really SEA.

A woman without her man is nothing

A woman - without her, man is nothing.

HOW you say something matters a lot Grin

GetOrfMoiiLand · 06/04/2012 22:31

You BARSTARD usual for eating ready cut fruits.

I am evidently a scumbag par excellence as I actually SAY textspeak (in that sometimes in funny moments I say LOL to dd instead of actually properly laughing).

But I can just blame that on being the mother of a teen, in teh MN vernacular teens are evil anyway.

LOLCATZ
