to expect my cat to sleep in his bed

or on the nice warm settee, or upstairs on my bed or one of the spare beds, or in the airing cupboard or on the clean dry towel I lovingly fold up for him a and place on his favourite patch under my bed, or on the hammock I hang from the radiator for him, rather than repeatedly digging round in the bin for yesterdays torn, greasy pizza box and sleeping on that?

My cat once slept on an upturned griddle pan (yes, on the ridges). They do it because they can, even if feather beds are provided.

oreocrumbs · 05/04/2012 00:43

Of course you are unreasonable.

The master of the house must sleep where he sees fit, and not where his minions dictate.

Grin
oreocrumbs · 05/04/2012 00:45

My cat's prefered sleeping place is a clean dry pile of white washing - as soon as he has come in from the wet muddy garden Hmm.

When he is dry and casting white fluff every where he favours the clean dry pile of black washing Hmm.

He does it deliberatly.

IAmBooyhoo · 05/04/2012 00:45

you are a cat's human you are always unreasonable! Grin

winnybella · 05/04/2012 00:47

Better than him sleeping on top of your head and purring and digging his claws into your cheek

IAmBooyhoo · 05/04/2012 00:48

i have one that sleeps on the stairs, one that sleeps on top of a laptop bag that is on top of the kitchen cupboards and one that sleeps in a house half a mile away in the estate where i used to live, my old neighbour keeps letting him stay when he runs back there.

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 05/04/2012 00:51

I've given up on providing nice cosy cat beds for ours. He never uses them and always favours the most uncomfortable looking places.

Awkward buggers.

asiatic · 05/04/2012 00:55

OK, so now I've tried moving yesterdays torn greasy pizza box into the living room on the carpet by the radiator, but that is all wrong too, he only wants it the cold, unheated kitchen lino!

cats are odd unique aren't they. when my 'runner' is at home he sleeps either on my shoulder blades or on my chest depending on which way i am lying. it's as if he is trying to get as close to my face as possible whilst still being generous enough to let me actually live Grin

oreocrumbs · 05/04/2012 01:06

No no no asiatic you are doing it all wrong. DCat wants the cold lino now. And in a few minutes once you have gone up to bed he will THEN drag it around your house smearing dirty grease stains all over the carpet which will then have all night to set in.

Thats how it works. Grin

thefroggy · 05/04/2012 01:08

My cat loves to sleep in the little box I keep on the worktop (it's the middleman for the kitchen waste and compost heap....like a tiny washing basket). I keep moving his fat ass off from the tea bags, egg shells and unwanted veg bits.

When he's not stalking me that is...the dude has serious jealousy issues.

weevilswobble · 05/04/2012 01:11

I have photographic evidence of ours sleeping in the lego drawer ON the lego!

Selks · 05/04/2012 02:37

The best advice I have received on this site so far was not to waste my hard-earned cash on a cat bed but to spend it on tuna instead! Grin

Lueji · 05/04/2012 02:56

My cat likes his cat bed, but I suspect only because it's on one of his favourite spots: a swing chair.

Whatmeworry · 05/04/2012 06:56

YABU to presume to tell your masters where to sleep.

marriedinwhite · 05/04/2012 07:41

have you thought about putting the greasy pizza box straight in the dustbin? Grin

asiatic · 05/04/2012 08:21

don't have one, married in white, just a huge communual skip thing without a lid that I do everythig I can to dissuade the cat from ever finding interesting incase he gets into it one day and can't get out.

Oreocrumbs, your prediction was spot on, except you forgot to mention I would be gifted with torn up strips of chewed pizza box for my breakfast.

Mine sometimes sleeps on the metal shoe rack in the freezing cold conservatory, it must be the most uncomfortable spot. She also likes throwing up in my shoes Hmm

salempickles · 05/04/2012 08:24

In my spare room i have 6 cat beds ranging from top quality to poundland ones. i have only ever had 2 cats. neither of them have slept in any of the beds for longer than 10 minutes. it took me a while to realise that they prefer cardboard boxes and the most uncomfy looking obstacle to sleep on instead.

I have 1 downstairs perched on the edge of a bean bag about to topple off again and the other lying on the cold floor tiles in the kitchen rolling about playing with a chocolate wrapper.

msrisotto · 05/04/2012 08:27

Cats choose where they want to sleep. I had a lovely fluffy unused cat bed for two years before I realised that she say on it when it was on the exact same spot as she sat anyway. I've even been able to move it off the dining room table now she's realised that it it's actually pretty luxurious to the touch.

fatherchewylouis · 05/04/2012 08:47

YABU - my cats have never slept in their bed (although the youngest does go on the radiator hammock on occassion).

One of my cats prefers the suitcase I hadn't put away yet after a weekend away and when I finally got around to putting it away it was so covered in cat hair that I spent half an hour de-hairing it.

Cats are weirdos, that's one of the things I love about them.

asiatic · 05/04/2012 08:48

now performing other favourite trick; boucing up and down on the printer to turn it on and make lots of paper come shooting out in an exciting rustly way, always KNOWS when I have forgotton to unplug the thing.

mrsbugsywugsy · 05/04/2012 08:55

YABU:

Cats sleep anywhere, any table, any chair.
Top of piano, window-ledge, in the middle, on the edge.
Open draw, empty shoe, anybody's lap will do.
Fitted in a cardboard box, in the cupboard with your frocks.
Anywhere! They don't care! Cats sleep anywhere.

mine's resting place of choice is currently the keyboard of my laptop, if I leave it unattended for a few seconds.

dexter73 · 05/04/2012 08:57

We had a cat bed that was never slept in. When the cat was about 2 we got a dog. She decided to ignore her dog bed and sleep in the cat bed. The cat wasn't happy about this so now when it is bed time she will sometimes go and get in the cat bed just so that the dog won't be able to sleep in it. She doesn't even lie down in it, just sits there until the dog finds somewhere else to sleep and then she will push off to the bathroom where she likes to sleep on the loo seat(???).

TorianaTollywobbles · 05/04/2012 09:01

Love these!

our old cat's favourite places to sleep were his (clean) litter tray or the bathroom sink Grin
