Got told the other day that pants are old fashioned and he'll be laughed at in school.

Mine has both, he is nearly four. Pants (I call them underpants) are on sale everywhere, so someone must be buying them.

VelmaDaphne · 04/04/2012 13:55

News to me! DS1 is 6 and wears pants, he's never said anyone's laughed at him.

Moomaloo · 04/04/2012 13:56

Well I teach 4-5 year olds and very rarely see a boy in boxers (changing for pe etc), vast majority wear pants.

cantspel · 04/04/2012 13:56

i have a 15 year old who wears pants and a 14 year old who wears trunks (the tight style boxers). Buy him a selection of all styles and let him decide which he prefers.

lalaland3008 · 04/04/2012 13:56

Well it's made me paranoid so I've ordered him a few pairs of character boxers, I'll then let ds choose.

I cannot believe that rising 4s are going to laugh at one another's pants.

That said, I prefer trunks for DS1 (4) because he does still have the odd 'mistake' poo and trunks catch it nicely. Pants spill over, and boxers are no bloody good - too loose!

MrsKittyFane · 04/04/2012 13:57

Really? How old is DS? 4 or 14? Probably best to get jersey boxers if he's 14 but at 4 (-11) who cares?! :o

duckdodgers · 04/04/2012 13:58

News to me to, my 4 year old wears underpants and my 9 year old has mainly underpants and some boxers - hes never been laughed at yet.

MrsKittyFane · 04/04/2012 13:58

Sorry, need to learn to read :o

youbethemummylion · 04/04/2012 13:58

I've been looking everywhere for those tight boxers (are they called trunks) as DS1 who has just turned 5 wants them instead of pants. Can't find them in his size anywhere all seem to be for older kids, any ideas anyone?

severnofnine · 04/04/2012 14:00

DS's who are aged 4 and 8 have a combination of actual pants ( but plain not thomas ones) and "tight" boxers. they wear different pants depending on if they are doing sport/ wearing shorts.
they both have skinny legs and even if i buy "tight" boxers they end up as baggy ones.
I asked DS aged 8 if he gets teased for wearing pants- he says" no its better than everyone seeing your willy if you sit down wearing shorts".

gobbledegook1 · 04/04/2012 14:00

If you mean 'knicker style' pants both mine wear them as does my DP's son, I don't think they are old fashioned and are far more practical when kids have to get themselves dressed and undressed at school as with boxers they then have to fiddle making sure boxers are tucked down.

Where I live I see very few places that even do boxers for children under age 8. As a teenager then yes she'd probably have a point but primary school age wouldn't worry.

AwkwardMary · 04/04/2012 14:00

Apparently they DO laugh in reception (well SOME do) a woman on here had an upset DD who'se Peppa Pig pants had been the subject of ridicule! I bet the little shit darling thaat laughed has older siblings who have laughed at her. Sad

I avoid charachters myself unless my DC ask for them specificaly...I go for stripes etc.

Floggingmolly · 04/04/2012 14:00

3 and 4 year olds don't give a monkeys arse about anyone else's pants!

cantspel · 04/04/2012 14:00

primark sell them in smaller sizes and so do sportsworld.

thekingfisher · 04/04/2012 14:01

M&S for the trunks do some v good quality ones

littlemissnormal · 04/04/2012 14:01

Pretty sure M&S do them.

MrsKittyFane · 04/04/2012 14:01

youbethe I bet matalan does them just as they sell bras for 5 year old girls :o

DeeLinquent · 04/04/2012 14:03

From when my Ds was potty trained (2.4) he wanted boxers to be like his daddy and uncle. He had pants aswell but said they were for babies. Let them choose I say!

AfricanExport · 04/04/2012 14:04

I would go with pants instead of boxers as the boxers tend to bunch up if they go to the loo. Just my experience with my ds though... He likes boxers though....

lalaland3008 · 04/04/2012 14:05

He's only 3, very soon to be 4.

YBTML I have ordered some trunks from H&M online, Next also do them but they're a bit more money.

DS is 5 and has been wearing trunk style boxers since 3. He picks them. He chooses bright colours. Next have some fab ones. He thinks briefs are girl pants as his sister wears them....though he doesn't say anything when she wears her girl boxers....they can wear what they like. All pants to me. I doubt he would be laughed at though.
