I'm watching tv with dd and I've started noticing what I'm perceiving as double entendres and other rudeness in the shows.

The cat in the hat always contains the phrase "flick the jiggermawizzer!"

The octonauts had kwazii claiming he needed to "polish his spyglass"

In the night garden had upsy daisy being covered in mucky stains.

Is it real? Are these shows fitting in naughty stuff for us adults or aibu?

The problem is with your dirty mind, not secret innuendos!

TheSkiingGardener · 01/04/2012 09:28

Just wait until you see the one where they all take turns to get into UpsyDaisy's bed.

Dustinthewind · 01/04/2012 09:29

You know that phase that some teenage boys go through, where everything is capable of being misinterpreted and twisted to refer to sex, or drugs or preferably both?
You are revisiting it.
It's all in your mind.

MrsWembley · 01/04/2012 09:30

Oh it's all in your dirty mind.Grin

Upsy Daisy likes to be chased around the garden and it's up to her who 'sleeps' in her bed.

Kwasi has a very impressive spyglass. I remember when he found it.

It's nothing compared to the likes of Bungle, George and Zippy and what they used to say. Or Captain Pugwash and his crew, anybody?

VegimalStyle · 01/04/2012 09:34

For those who've never seen rainbow and its rudeness!

And captain pugwash wasn't rude, there was no master Bates or roger the cabin boy!

I think he has one. Smile
Urban Legend Creation and its association with CBBC

VegimalStyle · 01/04/2012 09:53

That is 100% real! Ignore the date, I'm not into that stuff.

Once you notice this stuff you start seeing it everywhere...

The Rainbow one was made as an in-house joke I believe. I don't think anyone realised that in 20 years' time, the internet would have happened Grin

crustyonion · 01/04/2012 10:01

I was a bit Shock at the "All about Andy" footage Cbeebies ran a while ago. He is, apparently, the youngest of three brothers, but he is the longest.
immediately thinks of Andy's knob

VegimalStyle · 01/04/2012 10:05

I've been trying to track down an episode of mopatop's shop which had a whacking machine that went around spanking all the characters, but I can't find it! I know it exists!

OP posts:
ElephantsAreMadeOfElements · 01/04/2012 10:13

The Rainbow one was an internal gag show, never broadcast (IIRC it was screened at a TV company Christmas party). As BertieBotts says, then the Internet happened...

StuckUpTheFezziwigTree · 01/04/2012 10:16

There are loads of innuendos in the Hoobs.

Well, some might say that it's all in your mind OP but I do think that they do it on purpose!

VegimalStyle · 01/04/2012 10:43

It's keeping me entertained robin!

OP posts:
ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 01/04/2012 10:50

I'm sure they do it on purpose!

That particular Rainbow 'episode' was an in-house joke, but watch any of the others and they are almost as bad!

From Magic Roundabout to the Octonauts - they all have innuendo :)

RobinSparkles · 01/04/2012 10:54

In fact, I think there was an interview somewhere with the guys who play Big cock Cook and Little cock Cook and I'm sure that they said that they did it on purpose. I didn't see it but heard about it on MN.

AutumnSummers · 01/04/2012 11:40

I notice these things but see them as cartoon / programme makers putting a wee something in to make the adults laugh. Children who know nothing of sex etc will not make the same associations we do.

VegimalStyle · 01/04/2012 11:56

I know that autumn but my dd does ask why I'm laughing Blush

VegimalStyle I was going to say that one but you beat me to it. I was Shock when I saw that one. Grin

blonderthanred · 01/04/2012 12:27

I know someone who used to write for one of the shows mentioned and they used to to shoehorn in as much innuendo as they could, for their own amusement and the parents'.

VegimalStyle · 01/04/2012 12:44

God/other deity/science bless your friend! They help keep me sane. I think that if I went on mastermind my specialist subject would be the octonauts these days...
