I use lillets and have never experienced anything similar,

juneybean · 29/03/2012 23:54

Brings a whole new meaning to knit your own cheese ...

WorraLiberty · 29/03/2012 23:58

I've never experienced that before but then again, I don't use applicators.

I think the blog woman...whilst right to be concerned, is a bit of a drama queen after reading her second post.

I don't see how their response 'made it worse'.

TheBigJessie · 29/03/2012 23:58

Well, that's a big downside to plastic applicators, that I'd never thought of! You can't see if the tampon is mouldy... I am so glad I've always used plain lillets.

McHappyPants2012 · 30/03/2012 00:00

i love my mooncup :)

took a few months to get used to but there is no way i would go back to disposable.

CaoNiMa · 30/03/2012 01:01

"I am happily married to my high school sweetheart, Mitchell. I'm also a stay at home mom to my sweet & spunky little girl, Piper"

Hmm

She sounds insufferable.

AwkwardMary · 30/03/2012 08:38

Good God that's awful! It makes you think that other tampons could have small mold spores on them which aren't visible! Mold needs damp to grow in....the manufacturing process must be BAAAD! I dont use tampons as I can't bear them....inside me...yak...but pads could be as bad a this too....must get a mooncup!

StealthPolarBear · 30/03/2012 08:46

it's mentioned on snopes but they don't make a judgement as to whether it's true

valiumredhead · 30/03/2012 08:47

It's probably just where the plastic has a small hole so mould grows, bound to happen out of all the millions of tampons that are made.

I love my moon cup though :)

Iamweasel · 30/03/2012 09:14

'spunky' snarf

trikken · 30/03/2012 09:39

I cant get my head around the idea of a mooncup though. Id probably spill it getting it out.

that tampon is pretty disgusting though.

MargueritaaPracatan · 30/03/2012 09:43

I'm lovin' her meal plan.

NurseJennyLee · 30/03/2012 09:50

'Piper-isms'
The usual toddler mispronunciations then?

porcamiseria · 30/03/2012 10:55

thanks got for lilets!!!!

BigRedIndiaRubberBall · 30/03/2012 10:56

Oh, all you meanies taking the piss out of that poor woman's blog - you're spot on and very funny horrible.

I guess the response from Kotex makes it worse because it implies that this is a common problem rather than a freaky one off?

Mooncups are ace though - in fact I've just found out I'm pregnant, and a small part of me is disappointed as I only got mine two months ago, and everything being well it will now be well over a year before I get to use it again. That's terrible, isn't it? (I'm thrilled really.)

VonHerrBurton · 30/03/2012 10:58

Hilarious, cao!! Sweet and spunky. Hmm.

cocoachannel · 30/03/2012 11:22

Shoot ladies, why are you all still here and not RUNNING over to Brooke's to buy you DCs some ADORABLE outfits, with their names on and EVERYTHING?

Aribura · 30/03/2012 11:27

Good Lord I hate the Mooncup brigade. Yes, I know. They exist and they changed your life!!11!One!1 Now for the love of menstruation can we give it a break.

StealthPolarBear · 30/03/2012 11:36

Who are the mooncup brigade? Do they have drums and twirly things?

HintofBream · 30/03/2012 11:46

The mould might be really useful for preventing infections. (Vague recollection of penicillin being discovered on mouldy bread. Or something).

Mumfun · 30/03/2012 12:16

All very cheesy :)

I do love it when the huge faceless ruthless American corporations get their bums kicked!

Msdunny · 30/03/2012 19:09

And this is exactly why I would never go near a tampon again.
Many years ago I worked as a junior in a laboratory and these were always being tested. The results that came back were never good and the major brand company refused to accept this but to this day they are still being sold Angry Sad

shadycharacter · 30/03/2012 20:20

That's vile.

trikken, I've been using a mooncup for three cycles now - a few days ago I was erm, emptying it and had my 11 month old playing on the floor by my ankles (nice, I know) anyway he bumped my leg and I dropped it down the toilet! Yup, I had to fish it back out!

Before I bought it everybody insisted that it was so easy to use so despite my concerns I got one and I still can't use the bloody thing properly. I find tampons easier. But yes, this is disgusting.

TheCinnamonGiraffe · 30/03/2012 20:33

But being tested for what Msdunny? I've kept lillets for ages and they have been fine (I stocked up and then got pg...and after a few months got pg again so some of them might have been a couple of years old...).

McFluffster · 30/03/2012 20:37

I've always used tampons and if they've been mouldy I can't say I've ever noticed. Grin
