I was in the chemist buy a pregnancy test earlier. The lady behide the counter was taking ages. When I finally got there the lady behide me asked "are you hoping for yes" Shock. I didnt quite know what to say, the shop was fairly busy. I just replied I wasnt sure how i feel.
TBH, I know how I feel, I am scarced and really dont think a baby is a good thing for us at all right now.
I would never abort a baby, but know we run huge risks of a child with SN. That added to current situation means, its really not a good thing.
If you have worked out who I am, please please dont out me :(

The test is negative but im late and feeling very sick :(

I would never ever ask anyone that question, would you?

She was making conversation. Don't dwell on it. Hope you are ok.

HappyCamel · 29/03/2012 22:25

No, she shouldn't have asked. It was probably well meant, but it was inappropriate. I hope you're okay, take care of yourself.

McHappyPants2012 · 29/03/2012 22:27

YANBU, it is a very personal question.

if you plan to buy more, pound shop normally sell a pack of 2 for £1 just to save you a little money

Cherriesarelovely · 29/03/2012 22:29

You don't "make conversation" about stuff like that. Crikey, it's personal. Sorry, I hope you are ok OP.

allgoodnamesaretaken · 29/03/2012 22:30

maybe I should have asked her why was she there?

OP posts:
troisgarcons · 29/03/2012 22:31

it was another customer, making conversation. People do. Maybe thoughtless. Depends on her age I suppose - some people will assume people want a baby and verification of the fact.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 29/03/2012 22:33

YANBU .
It is inappropriate and she over stepped boundaries IMO .

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 29/03/2012 22:33

I had tge exact same thing, it's bad isn't tgat strangers want to know such personal things.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 29/03/2012 22:34

Maybe you should have asked her if she was in there to pick up something for thrush.

allgoodnamesaretaken · 29/03/2012 22:38

Thanks for £1 shop advice. I brought a 2 pack so will retest in day or 2 if period doesnt make a show Confused

ICutMyFootOnOccamsRazor · 29/03/2012 22:38

That's really thoughtless and insensitive. What would she have done if you'd said no? I bet she would have been Shock and Blush

troisgarcons · 29/03/2012 22:42

Why is it thoughtless and insensitive to want to share in the possibility of a new life?

If you are ashamed and have something to hide, then skulk and buy when the shop floor is empty.

Or put it through a faceless supermarket till.

scurryfunge · 29/03/2012 22:42

It may be inappropriate but it's just an irrelevant person making a comment. It has no bearing on your circumstances. Why give it the time of day? It's not something to get het up about. She has no knowledge of you. Just an inane comment in a queue.

AllthatshewantsisanotherBBaby · 29/03/2012 22:43

I did this myself when i worked at a super market, i asked a lady what she hoped for. I never imagined i could cause offence, i was broody ish myself and genuinely interested. I think you are over reacting tbh you could of said any old thing it was just making conversation...

igggi · 29/03/2012 22:48

Once upon a time I might have thought that was a nice, harmless thing to ask (albeit a bit nosy).
Women can buy pg tests for all sorts of reasons, including to check if their latest miscarriage is complete - so no, I don't think it's ok to ask.

I think it is a bit tactless, but I'm sure she meant no harm. I remember the first time I ever bought a pg test, I was so nervous my hands were trembling Hmm I think I would have just turned on my heel if anyone commented Blush

Pinkflipflop · 29/03/2012 22:51

It's the kind of comment you would make to a particular type of woman. You are being very over sensitive and the was no malice intended I'm quite sure.

I think the majority of people out there are basically good people and news of a new baby or pregnancy make them feel happy. Defo not said to make you feel bad.
