Not to shower every day?

Sausagedog27 · 28/03/2012 23:17

Just looking at threads about drought and how long it takes people to get ready and it got me thinking. I shower every other day (unless of course I've been particularly active or done something requiring need to shower ie gardening). I don't smell (as far as I know- dh says I don't!) all my other friends shower daily. Is this something we need to do daily or is it a society thing? I remember parents saying it was a weakly bath for them etc. with the drought situ I'm just wondering if this is contributing. Would you daily showerers consider reducing? Hmmmmm!

MrB, do you actually like women ?

BerryCheesecake · 29/03/2012 20:12

I'm going to look like a right slattern coming on here and saying on here but: I only wash my hair and shower twice a week. I don't smell! Chang my undies every day but only wash my bra once a week. I wear fresh clothes every day too! Never wear make up so maybe that helps! :o

LeepyTime · 29/03/2012 20:13

To 'hairytaleofnewyork' - Yes I am an alternative dayer, and on my 'off' day (excuse the pun), I have a full bird-bath (underarms, bits and feet). I sometimes wonder if I would actually be quicker just having a shower!!! Grin

Geranium3 · 29/03/2012 20:16

Berry, thought bras were undies???

BerryCheesecake · 29/03/2012 20:19

I always class undies as knickers ad bra as bra :o

coffeeinbed · 29/03/2012 20:23

I have the nose of a bloodhound and I don't take a shower everyday.
I do if I have been running.
MrB, a healthy fanjo does not smell.
HTH.

Helltotheno · 29/03/2012 20:24

I only wash my hair and shower twice a week

Berry ask the most honest person you know if they think you ever smell.

CremeEggThief · 29/03/2012 20:29

Is it ok to try to get 2 wears out of a sports bra? Started doing Body Combat twice a week, 3 days apart, but have been wearing the same bra without washing it in between. If it really isn't ok, I have got 2 sports bras. Apart from underwear and socks, I get at least 2 wears out of all my clothes. I think it stems from my mum constantly nagging us to keep our clothes clean and don't dare give her too much washing, although considering this was the west of Ireland and she didn't have a dryer, she had a point.

BellaVita · 29/03/2012 20:31

I shower every morning before work. I quite often have a bath in the evening too.

Today, I showered this morning and then showered in the afternoon when I got home from the gym.

I like to feel clean and smell nice.

I wear knickers with leggings - but then I always wear a tunic style top with them that covers my bum so if there is vpl it does not matter.

CovertTwinkle · 29/03/2012 20:39

I think if you don't shower every day you do smell of "human". I had a friend who showered every other day and she never smelt horrid but "human" iykwim - that smell of skin. It was weird. Whereas if you showered that morning your hair always smells of shampoo. By the end of the day it gets that hair smell. Greasy hair smells rank though.

I have to shower every day. I have bad eczema and acne and the combination means that the grease from my acne gets onto my hair (fringe esp) overnight and smells rank and my eczema is horrendously itchy no matter what creams I put on it until Ive washed all the sweat and skin cells etc off in a nice hot shower and reapplied mouisturiser. I NEVER dry my hair though. I let it air dry, brush it and its fine. We also have no dishwasher and I only wash clothes on the economy cycle at 30 degrees. So our water bills are nice and low.

thegreylady · 29/03/2012 20:46

I shower 3 times a week and wash all over the other days. Obviously my clothes are clean on every day. I wash my hair in the shower and use a bidet daily Grin

Plaguegroup · 29/03/2012 20:50

I thought modern dishwashers were so efficient they use less water than handwashing, I consider it a favour to the environment every time I use mine. Grin

I shower every other day, the DC can easily go longer than that, I'm often told what lovely skin my DC have.

Helltotheno · 29/03/2012 20:55

that smell of skin

I find that smell repugnant.. sorry if that offends anyone but I do.
My DH, who is a very clean man and showers once or twice daily, sometimes comes down to brekkie before shower on the weekend and I actually can't sit too near him while eating .. and this is someone who probably had a shower the previous evening.

I dunno, maybe it's my nose :(

coffeeinbed · 29/03/2012 21:07

I find it sad, tbh.
There is something wrong - for me, at least, that we find the smell of human skin repugnant and mask it with fruity-floral scents and shampoo.
And I do have the nose of a bloodhound.

NatureAbhorsAHoover · 29/03/2012 21:14

Baths are relaxing, but they do not get you clean. You are wallowing in your own filth.

petitepeach · 29/03/2012 21:17

I shower/bath every day - I know I am stinky if I don't!
Also I don't get the 'haven't got a shower' brigade - just stand in the bath fill a plastic jug with water; wet body, stop soap up, fill jug again & rinse!!

From experience works a treat!Grin

Have to agree with getting 'the wiff' off certain people...if you don't wash for a few days more than likely you are going to be at the very least a bit wiffy....

WishICouldBeLikeDavidWicks · 29/03/2012 21:18

Those of you who don't wear drawers: don't you get a bit, um, wet 'down there', you know, cos of the mucus, especially at fertile times? Or am I the only one? I like the idea of not wearing them for fresh air but can't always do it.

BustersOfDoom · 29/03/2012 21:27

I don't have a shower - saving up for new bathroom - but I have a bath 2 or 3 times a week, have a full wash at the bathroom sink every morning and wear clean clothes every day. I only wash my hair twice a week as it just doesn't get greasy very quickly. I might wear the same bra for 2 or 3 days but usually I'm wearing different colours so one day it might be a white one, a black one the next etc etc

My best friend and colleague is extremely straight talking and would tell me in a heartbeat if I was the slightest bit whiffy or my hair ponged. She's a clean freak and is good like that! She knows I'd want to know and wouldn't hesitate in ensuring I did.

Bogeyface · 29/03/2012 21:40

I think that might be you DavidWicks :o

Well it doesnt happen to me anyway!

Sausagedog27 · 29/03/2012 21:57

Happens to me Davidwicks so your not the only one!

Helltotheno · 29/03/2012 22:05

Sorry should have specified it's the smell of unwashed or not quite fresh human skin I find repugnant....

However I do find lots of natural things sweet-smelling like flowers etc so it's not like I'm saying the only nice smells are artificial!

WishICouldBeLikeDavidWicks · 29/03/2012 22:06

Yay Sausagedog, I no longer feel like a damp weirdo!

Bogeyface · 29/03/2012 22:10

DavidWicks, so I am a dry weirdo then?! Not sure how to feel about that!:o:o

EightiesChick · 29/03/2012 22:27

MrB, 'especially when you are on your cycle' - aren't we all 'on our cycle' all of the time? Hmm

hmc · 29/03/2012 22:35

I don't always shower first thing in the morning but I do shower at some point during the day. If i dont shower i feel sort of sticky and musty Blush
