I think I've seen it before, and yes, I can't get my head around it at all!

IIRC, earth could fit into Jupiter 1000 times.
It's all amazing and unbelievably huge.

faeriefruitcake · 25/03/2012 22:53

Love it

Vinomcstephens · 25/03/2012 22:57

Wow! Absolutely amazing, I love this kind of thing! Consider me marvel'd Grin

Ps the music's pretty funky too Wink

AberdeenWilma · 25/03/2012 22:57

That's gone straight over my head.

winnybella · 25/03/2012 22:58

Video's not great, tbh.

But this star's diameter is 3 billion km. Fuck me. I wasn't even aware of its existence Blush

And now.......back to all the AIBU questions that are so important!!!

Meglet · 25/03/2012 23:01

It's too bloody big for me.

Why doesn't it just drop out of the universe to the bottom Hmm. I don't care how clever gravity is that thing is too big to stay up.

I like the trippy music though.

Holy poo - that's going to be one big black hole when it implodes....

Meglet · 25/03/2012 23:08

I bet there is somewhere. A huge floor of stars that were too darn big to stay up. And broken satellites.

And little green men having to tidy it all up.

TwoIfBySea · 25/03/2012 23:12
(Note, he isn't in it or involved but it is the kind of thing he'd do one of his huge grins at.)

We used this as part of dts2's space project last year. Utterly amazing but the first music creeped me out something chronic.

Sootie · 25/03/2012 23:13

This has got me thinking about space and the universe now...so hard to get your head around it. Imagine, Earth is just a tiny speck floating about around the sun...amazing.

PurpleRomanesco · 25/03/2012 23:21

YADNBU! I adore stuff like this.

Amazing

Thank you for getting me thinking tonight!

Sootie · 25/03/2012 23:22

Wow, that's a good link TwoIfBySea - amazing. So are these hyper giants dying stars?

runningforthebusinheels · 25/03/2012 23:31

Oh yes. But in a good way :)

cakewench · 25/03/2012 23:32

holy crap.

I love things like that but at the same time they make me feel very insignificant.

BonzoDooDah · 25/03/2012 23:34
Devora · 25/03/2012 23:36

Blimey. That is mind-bending.

I'm going to sound like a dipstick, but I have to ask: what is vy canis majoris? A star? Does it have teeth? And is it coming to get us?

runningforthebusinheels · 25/03/2012 23:38

The most amazing picture I've ever seen is the one on the Brian Cox Wonders of the Universe - the 'pale blue dot.' Which is a photo of our planet taken from over six billion km's away ( by Voyager I, I think). Blows the mind.

iceandsliceplease · 25/03/2012 23:38

I love things like that because they make me feel insignificant. It's good to know we're really not all that important.

runningforthebusinheels · 25/03/2012 23:40

Exactly iceandslice - that's why I'm an atheist. And I love uncaged monkeys.

garlicbutter · 25/03/2012 23:41

Oh, THANKS, everybody, for all those links!

I feel awestruck. It's a good feeling :)
