....and from the age of 50.

Other public sectar workers get nothing remotely resembling that.

OP posts:
ThatVikRinA22 · 26/03/2012 00:27

well what i actually said was this

"anyhoo, as im not being paid for this particular fuckwittery i will bid you all nighty night and foxtrot oscar"

meaning i will bid you all goodnight and then, dear reader, i will foxtrot oscar. thats exactly what i meant.

but if you choose to imply that it meant i was telling you to fuck off then who am i to argue? i wont.

now im going to take my own advice and stop playing with the troll newbie.

badgeroncaffeine · 26/03/2012 00:32

I see, you were saying you would "foxtrot oscar"? Yes, people often say they will do that.

And the fact that virtually all of my OP was fact and not opinion makes me a "troll" does it? Who am I to argue? I won't...

mumblecrumble · 26/03/2012 01:23

Just finihsed chatting to a nice police lady as we had DH's bike nicked earlier this eve. When we went in doors and locked up she went out to look for them. She's welcome to a good pension.

ThatVikRinA22 · 26/03/2012 03:34

Well fact and fiction both start with F and that's as near to fact as you get. Have the police done something which has upset you at all? Smile

ThatVikRinA22 · 26/03/2012 03:36

Hope you get it back mumble there's some 'orrible people about.

catsmother · 26/03/2012 05:17

My 21 year old son has recently become a regular officer. Prior to that, he spent more than 2 years (from the age of 19, a baby really) as an unpaid Special, where he often patrolled alone and had to potentially deal with anything a paid officer might face. He's been first on scene at truly appalling incidents - including an especially traumatic suicide involving decapitation. He's been first on scene at fatal RTAs ..... despite being unpaid, and despite holding down a full time job in addition to at least 16 hours unpaid work (usually worked significantly more).

He was delighted and excited to be accepted into the Regulars, and I don't begrudge him a penny of any benefits which might come his way in the future - though given his age and the current climate they're almost certainly not going to be of the likes described here. He saw his Specials experience as the gateway into the Regulars and thankfully, for his sake, all his hard work paid off.

From my perspective, I live daily with the possibility that he could be seriously injured or worse. Aside from the armed forces I'm not sure how many other jobs carry that same real risk. For fuck's sake, what do people think their lives would be like if no-one wanted to join the Police ?

SunshineOutdoors · 26/03/2012 05:36

If you think a job has such great perks, train and apply for that job.

Reminds me of when people moan about all the holidays and free time teachers get.

badgeroncaffeine · 26/03/2012 05:58

SunshineOutdoors Do you think everyone is driven by greed and hypocrisy? Besides, there's nil chance of joining the police as they have thousands of applicants (of course!) and like to employ from certain "groups"...

SunshineOutdoors · 26/03/2012 06:19

No I don't think everyone is driven by greed and hypocrisy.

I think I meant that it's easy to look at the supposed perks of a job as being unfair when you're on the outside looking in, nut the reality of the situation is probably quite different. I didn't put it very well though - I blame being woken by dd!

I think the police do an extremely difficult job, I don't know much about their pension scheme but can see that it might be beneficial to stop with a good pension at 50.

Sorry if I've missed the point of this thread, might be a bit out of my depth here!

SunshineOutdoors · 26/03/2012 06:22

but not nut

Badger - in a fact based discussion the source you quote needs to be more specific than 'the internet'.

If you are going to use personal knowledge about the pensions of individual retired officers in a fact based discussion you imply that you know their exact length of service, exact final salary, exactly how much of their pension they have or have not commuted and the exact circumstances of their retirement. That is detailed information.

How did you establish the exact number of retired police officers living in your county? What proportion of them were employed by your county force? What proportion of them moved to your county in retirement?

BarryNormansSofa · 26/03/2012 07:32

I'm glad police get good pensions - my DH will have served 30 years in two years time and will get his pension and lump sum , but will still have to get another job as we have two young children and he would die to boredom !

He has never been able to strike , I feel the Police Federation are a waste of time as they have nothing to bargain with - so basically no strike actin and no decent union - not like that in NHS is it really ?

And as always when others go on strike its the police that pick up the pieces .
Its a tough in all frontline public sectors jobs - but some are a bit tougher than others .

whencanigohome · 26/03/2012 08:23

Badger - 'like to employ from certain groups'.

What proportion of the population in your county are of a visibly minority ethnic appearance?

What proportion of the people recruited to work as police staff, PCSOs, special constables and full time officers in your county are of a visibly minority ethnic appearance?

OP if you had said "AIBU to think nurses are underpaid, overworked and likely to get shafted on their pensions" I would have said YANBU.

However, comparing a police pension to a nurses pension is like comparing apples and oranges. They pay in different amounts, do a totally different job and are paid different salaries. Therefore YABU.

Thanks [for hoping bike willg et back]... it wont and spent hours on phone to insurance. think DH is more frustrated thta he spent ages securing the garage and thery just busted it all.....

Seriously though, agree with Deep purple that if you had winged about your own position OP you may have had more sympathy than just moaning about police. I mean why not moan about Richard Branson being rich or footballers or soemthing....

Notinmykitchen · 26/03/2012 12:39

I really don't understand why people moan about what other people get. We all have the freedom to choose our jobs. If you think someone else is getting a better deal, and you want that deal, then go and apply for that job, if you choose not to do that then that is your choice, so why complain about it?

badgeroncaffeine · 26/03/2012 14:16

Oh dear...some people here just can't accept the facts can they? Some very funny posts there, especially Cassettetapeandpencil. Anyway, let's just throw money at public sector employees. Doctors are another example, we have nearly the highest paid in the world here, on £100k-£200k. As long as people don't mind the injustice of it and the country sinking further into debt...

Some posters obviously believe everything they read in the Daily Fail....and then regurgitate it back here.
