Namechanger. Smile My DD, who is just 3 was playing upstairs early on. All of a sudden she let out an almighty shriek and screamed help. It was the sort of cry your child makes that makes you drop everything (in my case a knife and some lemons) and dash. I dashed up as she was running down the stairs. She literally jumped in my arms and looked terrified.

i asked her what was worng and she said that was a man in her room. I said whta did he look like, she said bigger than her with blue hair (she is unsure of her colours Grin) My first thought was ghost. Hmm I gave my DD, 10 the phone and said if I scream, take the others and run out of the house. Shock

Adrenalin took over and I ran upstairs and got my baseball bat Shock and searched every nook and cranny, no one there.

I came down and reassured everyone that it was probably the cat that spooked her whilst shitting it I asked DD what the man said, she said he said, this is my room and my bed.

reassure me please. Sad

The problem with the open mind angle is that it runs contrary to every other sphere of your life. Science has enlightened us to so many different arenas of life. We now know that mental health is determined by biology/environment whereas 100 years ago it was spiritual. Psychology succinctly demonstrates how alarmingly easy it is to deceive ourselves. I echo LeQueen You need to model rational thought to your dc's the same way you model rationale in every other area.

ok, dd at a similar age started sitting bolt upright in the corner of her cot, obviously upset. This happened several times. I mentioned this to a friend who suggested that the next time it happened to 'tell' whatever it was that dd was upset and to please leave us alone. I know that sounds woo but that's exactly what I did and it only ever happened once more many months later and I did the same. Never happened since. however the cat seems to get spooked most nights. If I feel uncomfortable I just say so out loud and the feeling goes.

DelGirl · 22/03/2012 18:24

actually sorry, she was younger, less than 2.

Glad it worked del

I have the same mindset as worra, buki etc, my dp the same as the op. He wants to believe. We live in a victorian house and do often hear strange noises during both the day and night. I'm happy to explain them away as air locks in the pipes, old creaky wodden floors etc etc, dp of course thinks otherwise, he has even gone as far to name our 'visitor', Ned.

Anyway, I now have great fun leaving cupboard drawers open, moving certain objects around a bit, even making a few noises myself and denying it, OH THE FUN! You should see how scared he gets! It's hilarious!

VeryLittleGravitas · 22/03/2012 18:45

That's actually a fairly nasty bit of gaslighting you've got going on there lovelydogs

Frontpaw · 22/03/2012 18:52

There's a haunted mews house near us. Aparently a girl was murdered and hidden up the chimney. Probably a load of rubbish but...

Our old house was definately haunted. Nuns (flocks of then) a little girl and a scene that used to play out in one of the rooms when there was an upheval in the family (people walking in through the door, very specific noises in the room). Scared me shitless until I got used to it all. I used to tell them to bugger off.

bejeezus · 22/03/2012 18:53

I didn't believe in ghosts. Until I watched that YouTube link. What other explanation could there be though?

defies the laws of physics, but what about string theory? multi dimensional theory?

Calamityboo · 22/03/2012 19:06

Have you watched it yet behind? I will be there with a Wine when you have!

lovelydogs · 22/03/2012 19:22

Yeah, course it is, verylittle.

VeryLittleGravitas · 22/03/2012 20:35

Scaring the bejeezus out of your partner and playing nasty mind games on them is abusive, however you dress it up. Seriously, do you get off on seeing your partner's fear and bewilderment?

Unless it's a poor attempt at humour...

BehindLockNumberNine · 22/03/2012 20:40

Watched it!!! And it was, uhm, very scary!! Now, where is that Wine, I need it to calm my nerves....

lovelydogs · 22/03/2012 21:14

hmm, or maybe he knows deep, deep down that it is a human doing it? No one can be that stupid after all, surely?

I know about gaslighting VL, I know about abusive relationships, I can assure you this isn't the same thing. I am indulging him in his fantasy. If you want to view this as abusive then good for you, but my God if I was to tell him and ask him if he felt "abused" I know he'd laugh his socks off at the idea. He likes the idea of Ned, he wants Ned to exist, he doesn't spend all night in fear due to my actions. What a huge over reaction on your part.

WorraLiberty · 22/03/2012 21:30

Oh come on lighten up!

I'm sure if lovely's DH showed any kind of real distress she'd stop.

When we were teenagers, my mate was convinced there was a ghost called George living in her bedroom wardrobe.

I sat in there one night wearing a grey mask and a white wig...then took her jumper out of her hand as she put it in the wardrobe.

It scared the living shit out of her...and her sister when she screamed and 27 years later we still laugh about it! Grin

I'm assuming that this is a replacement DP for the old, abusive gaslighting one you dumped last month. If yes, then can I respectfully suggest that your perception of what constitutes normal behaviour in a relationship has been severely skewed.

HTH

Calamityboo · 23/03/2012 07:58

There there behind, worth it in the end!!

lovelydogs · 23/03/2012 18:18

VL

I'm touched that you've taken the effort to check my post history. It's neither here nor there whether this is my old or a new dp, frankly. As I said, my actions do not constitute an abusive relationship. Get over yourself, stalker.
