I have been bored with mumsnet tonight so thought I would go over and look at netmums. And under the topic about current affairs and news there are some intelligent and interesting debates. It is noticeable BTW that the posters on the interesting threads have a lack of sparkles and other stuff. But AIBU to enjoy the intelligent debate there?

How long were you gone? Grin

Redbindy · 20/03/2012 22:16

You are a nasty troll. Go away and take any sparkles you may possess with you!

GavisconJunkie · 20/03/2012 22:18

I tried that once. I found it all a bit...colourful. But then I'm very easily distracted.

CrystalMaize · 20/03/2012 22:19

YANBU. It's obviously a different environment. Intelligent debate is great. Can't give an opinion on sparkles and stuff as I don't know what you mean. Can you swear?

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 22:20

No you fucking can't.

"bored with Mumsnet"?

YABVU!

CrystalMaize · 20/03/2012 22:23

Oh. Flipping heck, what a bore.

wigglesrock · 20/03/2012 22:23

I go for quick look daily, its alright [shrugs]. I'm a member of both Shock

I've found that some of the most in-depth and vitriol-free debates on MN have also been lacking in swearing - when someone stepped out of line, they were told off spoken to firmly, and the conversation continued without bun-fighting, mud-slinging and so on.

Many of these debates have been on religion, on the evolution/creation debate, homosexuality and other contentious topics.

So this leads me to the inevitable conclusion that swearing is the MN equivalent of the NM sparkly stuff, and that we on MN are mature enough to realise that some topics need are ok for swearing, whereas others are just too - well, serious. Confused.

I realise that IA probably BU to reach this conclusion.

CrystalMaize · 20/03/2012 22:26

Wiggles, what's the main difference? (Forget the language).

EngeldinckHumperbert · 20/03/2012 22:26

What are they debating? whether hun begins with a capital 'h' or not? As Oscar Wilde once said, "If your bored or mumsnet, your bored of life"...

EngeldinckHumperbert · 20/03/2012 22:27

Bored of and you're doh!

CrystalMaize · 20/03/2012 22:27

Good point, pointy!

SparkyMcSparrow · 20/03/2012 22:27

Thats my fault isn't it lesley Grin

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 20/03/2012 22:30

Can you link to an interesting debate so I can see without having to search? Cos that bit's boring.

Is that allowed? Or am I suggesting something far too outrageous?

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 22:31

Engel - Been looking at similar threads to on here - proposal to introduce gay marriage, households with over 44k losing cb, schools banning children from having best friend, differences in income, etc.

wigglesrock · 20/03/2012 22:33

Their local boards are a cut above MN, its a bit less cliquey, some of the topics are a bit wtf, I think you can say that Grin. A lot of the OPs are a bit dull - ie guess what I did today? but I don't know, it doesn't take itself as seriously than MN for want of a better word.

Mind you I'd better watch I don't get sent to the POW for daring to have a moan Grin

EngeldinckHumperbert · 20/03/2012 22:33

I'll scoot over and have a nose...

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 22:33

Is it sparky? Sorry being dim I don't know what you mean?

Okay link below. Posters saying pretty much what was said on similar thread although there is no swearing.

They don't have a feminism board and I can't see the more academic debates you get on here. But in terms of news and current affairs its not THAT different imo.

OP posts:
wigglesrock · 20/03/2012 22:35

lesley some of the posters had quite twee tickers, smileys etc

EngeldinckHumperbert · 20/03/2012 22:35

VERY BIG SIGNATURES that sparkle at the bottom of threads. Usually in pink.

SparkyMcSparrow · 20/03/2012 22:36

Tis you on the unpopular's thread....I think Confused

Nethuns has been bought up there because of me and my stupid sparkly name

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 20/03/2012 22:36

Thanks, I'll follow that in a minute.

I went and had a quick look, as I clearly have no patience at all. It is colourful! And those tickers are bloody annoying when you are trying to read and they keep sodding moving.
