I have been bored with mumsnet tonight so thought I would go over and look at netmums. And under the topic about current affairs and news there are some intelligent and interesting debates. It is noticeable BTW that the posters on the interesting threads have a lack of sparkles and other stuff. But AIBU to enjoy the intelligent debate there?

No no, it was Samuel Johnson who said that about Mumsnet life.

You don't get literary discussions of this calibre on Nethuns!

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 22:37

I'm not saying it is just like here. Yes some have smileys. But the points made are similar to here. Sorry link posted properly this time.

YABU for putting that link up. My eyes! That bunting puts me in mind of the Crusades.

SparkyMcSparrow · 20/03/2012 22:40

You haven't been on there today though, so I will let you off Grin

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 22:41

You are all being far too nice . I actually do mean what I say. But I was expecting you all to come on and tell me to fuck off.

EngeldinckHumperbert · 20/03/2012 22:41

Ah, sorry Creepy! Perhaps I should go over to the sparkly other side!

Tanith · 20/03/2012 22:42

Another big difference is that Justine, Olivia, Rowan et al resist (easily!) the urge to post those very patronising "I can see you've had some good advice..." posts that the Netmums Mods seem to indulge in.

SparkyMcSparrow · 20/03/2012 22:44

Makes me wonder how many people dip over to the sparkly side more often than they would like to admit Hmm Grin

wigglesrock · 20/03/2012 22:45

lesley there are quite a few dual members Grin, I know loads, but if it helps [stamps foot] how very dare you, you're only allowed to like MN ever Grin

crazynanna · 20/03/2012 22:47

I'm on both

Tanith...theys not Mods' who write the "I can see you have had some good advice...",they are usually whay is called a 'Parent Supporter/advisor' or summat....usually a Member who is asked to become one, along with HVs' and so forth.

The Mods' just write stuff like "This thread had been edited in line with guidelines" and "we habe moved your thread to a more appropiate place",and if you are really special...a Mod will PM you and say "Fuck off...you're banned" Blush

First came lurve, and then came marriage.

Then came a baybee in a golden carriage

Elliemae77 · 20/03/2012 23:06

Right, i just had a look at that link. Don't think I could last ten minutes on there! The sigs are confusing and distracting, and the debate is far from interesting...or intelligent. I admit I didn't delve deep into it but the few posts i read were pretty inane actually - along the lines ' I agree with gay marriage 'cause I know some gay people and they're nice' ....Erm... not an argument.

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 23:07

Funny creepy! I was a bit scared to click on the links knowing what links on MN normally lead to.

OP posts:
TiggyD · 20/03/2012 23:07

"Dear Netmums,

Do you love me?
Tick YES
or NO

OP

XxXxXxX"

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 23:10

Ellie - I'm not saying they are discussing academic theory. But I read the posts on the same thread here and they were also pretty much saying:

  1. Why should churches be forced to marry people when it is against their beliefs
  2. They are not forcing them, they are offering a choice.

Maybe the word interesting though was being generous...I'll give you that.

So I've made it back from the sparkly side. Just wondering, if you start your thread with a poll, like many do, what does the hun OP then do with the poll results? Laminate them and decorate with glitter? What's the point?
