To enjoy reading some intelligent debate on netmums?

I have been bored with mumsnet tonight so thought I would go over and look at netmums. And under the topic about current affairs and news there are some intelligent and interesting debates. It is noticeable BTW that the posters on the interesting threads have a lack of sparkles and other stuff. But AIBU to enjoy the intelligent debate there?

NO! I DON'T HUG GIRLS! They give you the lurgi. They can go off and do their skipping and strange clapping stuff while I'm stretching some worms.

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 23:17

I didn't realise you were a man Tiggy.

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 23:17

Don't know what the point of the poll is?

OP posts:
CreepyWeeBrackets · 20/03/2012 23:23

I think the Nethuns polls are about as useful, informative and relevant as Tiggy's skool-stylee tick-box note.

Whatmeworry · 20/03/2012 23:30

I find netmums is more sensible on relationships, but MN chat, news and esp AIBU are better.

But I just can't take those cutesy sparkly naffsy signatures.

anotherstressfulmorning · 21/03/2012 08:27

another dull thread from lesley33. At least you never mentioned anything financial Biscuit

Bletchley · 21/03/2012 08:32

Ouch!

lesley33 · 21/03/2012 08:33

You knwo another - maybe you could just not bother opening any of my threads then?

Or maybe just fuck off?

OP posts:
SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 21/03/2012 08:50

crazynanna · 21/03/2012 08:52

All my threads are dull....I don't care really...I have rights! Wink

loopylou6 · 21/03/2012 08:57

Ooosshh abit out of order there another

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 21/03/2012 09:04

I have been on netmums for years.

I try but I just cant cope with it anymore.

For every one sensible thread there are 100 mad ones.

You can start a riot on there by saying 'I dont like cardigans'

You will be swamped with replies such as
'omg my nanna wore a cardigan and she DIED 6 years ago. You have really upset me'
'So you are a perfect mommy are you? You dont need to wear cardigans'
'I suppose you expect my hubby's taxes to pay for you not to wear cardigans'
'SOME of us might have PND and have to wear cardigans. Now I feel really bad because you are judging me.'
'What about soldiers who wear cardigans? Do you HATE them too?'
'I hate them too, old mothers wear them, like 36 or something and its discusting (sic)'
'I bet if it was a muslim wearing a cardigan you wouldnt say that'

All these will accompanied by lots of sobbing smilies, angry faces and passive agressive happy faces.

I am glad you have found the enclave of sanity on nuthunz but I had enough a while ago and rarely visit now.

lesley33 · 21/03/2012 09:08

That made me laugh DeVere. Fair enough I am BU - I only looked at the more serious threads.

OP posts:
lesley33 · 21/03/2012 18:38

Okay okay, I admit it I have actually been very very unreasonable. I had only read some threads discussing issues that really weren't that deep.

Today I have enjoyed the thread in feminism about a product Ann Summers are selling. Although posters do not agree with one another, the level of debate has been intelligent and interesting.

So out of curiosity I posted a similar thread on NM about the same product. The comments are basically all saying if thats what you want to do that's fine and I have even been told to lighten up. I know they don't have a feminism section, but even in chat here I think you would get some posters who would analyse it from a feminist perspective.

So I am very sorry I was BVVU.

OP posts:
OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 21/03/2012 19:26

We tried to start a feminist 'club' on NM a couple of years ago.

It was a club because it was in the Club Section. This is not a debating section and people are supposed to be able to post without others coming on and starting a row.

It didnt go well. We had posters objecting to having a feminist club because we didnt need it. Lots of posts about ugly women wearing dungerees. It was total toss. The young lady who started carried on gamely for quite a while but I think even she gave up after a while. I dont know if its still there.

There are a LOT of rape apologists on NMs. A thread about child victims of rape will generally go along the lines of 'yes but lots of 11 year olds look much older. They know what they are doing and its so unfair that some poor bloke has got in trouble. I mean what were they doing out on their own anyway'

It is deeply depressing.

lesley33 · 21/03/2012 19:30

That is very depressing! I have been told to get a life and that its all a bit of fun. I realise for the first time why there is such an antipathy to NM by some posters here.

OP posts:
harrietlichman · 21/03/2012 19:46

Lesley - I just went over and read your thread! The difference in reactions is shocking! PMSL that they have you pegged as a psychology student trying to do research....

I will not be going back - tis another country.

lesley33 · 21/03/2012 20:00

I know! As if talking about feminism means I have to be doing research ffs. It is a different country. And I won't be bcak...my blood pressure can't take it.

Christ I must have been bored last night to post this thread!

De Vere - the sad thing is that a feminist club is really really needed over there.

OP posts:
wigglesrock · 21/03/2012 20:06

But Lesley you were doing research surely - you were looking at the different responses members of 2 different sites had to the same question.

Yes, lets educate these poor members of NM (mostly women) in the error of their ways, I find that very arrogant.

lesley33 · 21/03/2012 20:09

No I wasn't! I was genuinely interested in the responses from women not on a feminist section. I thought it wouldn't be academic but tbh I wasn't expecting the responses I got. I thought some would agree with me. So it wasn't about educating them.

OP posts:
lesley33 · 21/03/2012 20:10

But yes now I think they do need fucking educating actually. Not to agree with me. But to have at least a basic understanding of feminism.

OP posts:
nenevomito · 21/03/2012 20:11

I have 'dual nationality' and go onto Netmums, but it is exactly as described by MrsDevere. The only times I go on now is to use their drop in clinic as I can never get to see a Health Visitor and to check in on a couple of chat threads that I've been on for years.

Sadly after years of Mumsnetting, my posts are generally full of as I forget that I'm not allowed to swear and I get accused of being truthful harsh.

nenevomito · 21/03/2012 20:13

DAMN IT! It deleted all of my asterisks so the last sentence above looks weird.

Whatmeworry · 21/03/2012 23:04

Today I have enjoyed the thread in feminism about a product Ann Summers are selling. Although posters do not agree with one another, the level of debate has been intelligent and interesting.

So out of curiosity I posted a similar thread on NM about the same product. The comments are basically all saying if thats what you want to do that's fine and I have even been told to lighten up.

Out of mild curiosity I scanned the two - In summary, one is the MN "Radfems" frothing about a sex toy being a tool of the Patriarchies' tools and howling at those few who say "do what you will", with lots of "shockeds", "offendeds" and PA frowns, smileys etc.

The other is the NM "Nonfems" saying "do what you will" and naicely telling those few who are frothing to lighten up, with lots of sparklies, (((hugs))) and countdowns etc.

Put it on AIBU, OP - that should be good for a bunfight robust discussion :o

Angeleena · 22/03/2012 02:51

I went on NMs for the first time and can't stand the little twinkles and pukey 'mummy of licko timtim, jojo and weewee' crap stuff.

But happened upon the above mentioned thread as it was pretty near the top.

Naive and inexperienced in BJs I may be, why mess around with bjs when you can have a good shag but if you use something (headband in this case) to add thrust, don't you also require something to aid pulling away, unless asphyxiation is also part of the SM stuff you are in to.

Also as the male is, as demonstrated, in control isn't the female at a disadvantage as regards breathing - not the case if being used by women on men giving oral, as suggested on thread, unless you have the arm strength of a russian shotputter.

Please correct me if I am wrong on this.
