To enjoy reading some intelligent debate on netmums?

I have been bored with mumsnet tonight so thought I would go over and look at netmums. And under the topic about current affairs and news there are some intelligent and interesting debates. It is noticeable BTW that the posters on the interesting threads have a lack of sparkles and other stuff. But AIBU to enjoy the intelligent debate there?

The intelligent debaters on NetMums without the pink fluff and sparkles are probably MNers doing a bit of moonlighting the turncoats.

Apart from MrsDeVere - I think she goes over there, and she is an intelligent debater but she would definitely have pink sparkles and stuff, because she is strange like that. She's some kind of weird anomaly, like her out of Legally Blonde. Grin

lesley33 · 22/03/2012 06:31

Angeleena - In my view you are totally correct.

whatmeworry - i don't think of myself as one, but according to that I am a radfem. But tbh I don't expect people to agree with me - that would be boring - just debate stuff with an argument.

hilly my tickers were reported to NM mods because they were too big

They made me downsize Sad

Yes, I do love a bit of pink and sparkle.

'weird anomaly' hmmm I am still thinking about that Hmm

Grin
lesley33 · 22/03/2012 08:56

So what is your NM name then?

OP posts:
SparkyMcSparrow · 22/03/2012 09:01

Love that a ticker was reported because they were to big Grin

They are just jealous MrsDeVere

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 22/03/2012 09:06

I will leave that to you to work out lesley. Its not too hard.
It will give you something to do next time you are board of MN Grin

The only problem is that most of the threads I am on get deleted eventually.

nenevomito · 22/03/2012 09:14

her name is Christopher R.

crazynanna · 22/03/2012 09:18

There was a 'Christopher' on there ages ago...who started a thread about the hole horse hooves leave in mud and grassy areas, and how his dc had "fallen" in one and sprained his ankle Hmm

It was a vair funny thread...with comments' like "stop horsing around Christopher!" Grin

He was a hoot...oh how I miss him over there.

lesley33 · 22/03/2012 09:22

No DeVere I am not going on again! Took me all night and some of this morning to calm down. And I am normally a very calm person.

OP posts:
nenevomito · 22/03/2012 09:24

Thats the one Grin I got into a great argument with him once when he said something like "Hating Muslims dosn't make me a racist as Islam isn't a race."

To which I replied "No, but it makes you an uneducated bigot".

I got deleted for that Shock which may tell you why I don't post much on Netmums any more.

lesley33 · 22/03/2012 09:25

You got deleted for that Shock

OP posts:
crazynanna · 22/03/2012 09:27

I raise you your ban for calling him a bigot...with my ban for telling someone to "jog on" Wink

AutumnSummers · 22/03/2012 09:39

I used it for a while but found it to be too heavily monitored. The mods will often delete whole threads because they've got too heated and I don't trust the threads that have been heavily edited by them to give a true picture of what posters are saying because, even if they don't delete a heated thread, they'll sometimes chage replies that people have made and what's left isn't in the original context, making it look like the poster is saying something else. Why not just delete the post whole post?

woollyideas · 22/03/2012 11:28

Too heavily monitored in the wrong way, eg. you can't say 'shit' but you CAN say this:

oh how i love a little argument i dont give a [asterisk, asterisk, asterisk, asterisk] what you think to be honest, i was giving my personal opinions to all you [seven asterisks] i dont accept gays and thats that, its up to you what you what your kids doing/watching! gays make me sick if i be really honest , cringe cringe hahahahaha

Yep, intelligent debate...

ABigGirlDoneItAndRanAway · 22/03/2012 11:51

I don't go on the Netmums boards as much as these ones as I agree that some of the text speak is too OTT and that it's too heavily moderated, apparently "bugger" is too heinous a word for the swear filter, but I actually quite like some of the tickers. I like being able to see at a glance how many children of what ages people have and I find the bereavement ones really moving, although the ones to do with weight loss and holidays and stuff seem a bit pointless.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 22/03/2012 12:27

They have ones that tell you the details of their cervical mucus and how long since they shagged

I got threatened with a ban for started a thread on 'what do with think about the use of disabilist language on NM' . This goes totally unmoderated and I got really pissed off after someone posted on the SN board about kids with LDs being r***s.

I was sent an email with no explaination why but that I was on a warning AND they told me I was not allowed to publish the contents of the email or show it to anyone.

So I cut and paste it and put in MN Grin

I may not be a legal expert yet but WTF are they going to do about me showing someone an email? Send me to internet prison.

I pop back when I am avoiding essays and the poster I used the 'ignore button' on is still 'ignored'.

Makes me laugh everytime. I just think of her hopping about behind the screen making bigoted comments and sucking up to the Big Girls - and I cant see it.

Hardy hah

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 22/03/2012 12:33

babyheave Hmm

How dare you!

Grin

the majority of men who post on NM are weird and controlling. I dont mean because they post on a parenting site. I think they stay because there is a lot of fawning on there. If a bloke posts they get a lot of attention and 'aww u r such a good daddy'

I had a hilarious exchange with some wanker who was saying vile things about Amy Winehouse (who I loves). There was a lot of that going on at the time. He was calling her talentless and she just did cover versions. He said real singers wrote their own songs etc. When presented with the examples of Billie Holliday, Etta James, Frank Sinatra etc who sang but didnt write much, he still wouldnt have it.

Then I revealed that Amy wrote most of the songs on her albums.

He disappeared in a puff of stupid.

MissFaversham · 22/03/2012 12:45

Me thinks Lesley33 is definite "prefect" material.

Why on earth should everything be about arguing the toss over the slightest thing debating on this forum anyway?

lesley33 · 22/03/2012 12:53

Just popped back briefly and read your post Miss Faversham. How very dare you! I will report you immediately.

Actually I desperately wanted to be a prefect. But my parents were troublemakers and not liked by the school. So sadly I never got to be one.

OP posts:
MissFaversham · 22/03/2012 13:13

Still in with a chance then ay Grin
Bless you.

lesley33 · 22/03/2012 13:43

Bless me!!! FSSS!!! Now I know you are taking the piss.

OP posts:
nenevomito · 22/03/2012 14:51

Ahh, very true Mrs DV

Like the chap who once said to me that he's stopped his pregnant wife from listening to ABBA as he didn't want him to grow up to be a poof.

That was bad enough - but he ended it by saying "So I've got her listening to Queen instead".

Bigoted, homophobic and stupid.

What an all rounder he was. Grin

nenevomito · 22/03/2012 14:51

*listening to ABBA when he found out she was expecting a boy.

MissFaversham · 22/03/2012 15:35

Lesley pack up the swearing, it's "extracting the urine" dahling.

Feck sake Grin Grin Smile Smile Wink Wink poor imitation of netmums

lesley33 · 22/03/2012 15:58

Chaos said swear words in tickers get through - so there!

(would get deleted for the so there!)
